I scheduled a "new patient" appointment specifically with Dr. Drummond and delivered a copy of my dog's medical records in advance of the appointment. When I arrived (early) with my dog, the man at the front desk informed me that I would be seeing another veterinarian in order to have more time for the initial visit. I said that I had specifically scheduled a "new patient" appointment with Dr. Drummond and wanted to see Dr. Drummond. I was told that the schedule was already changed and that Dr. Dummond was scheduled to see other patients. I insisted and was told to wait. After waiting an extensive period, during which time this clerk waited on other customers, I asked if we would be able see Dr. Drummond. I was told to wait still longer while he continued to wait on other customers. Finally, he took me into a consultation room to tell me that I could either see the other veterinarian or reschedule the appointment. I said that I would neither see the other vet nor would I reschedule. I express my profound dissatisfaction. The clerk repeatedly interrupted to ask if I wanted to see the other vet or reschedule. He finally acknowledged that I should have been called about a change of appointment, but insisted that there was nothing that could be done. He was arrogant, officious and absolutely disingenuous as he repeatedly said: "I am sorry you feel that way, but you can either see the other vet or reschedule."

I am appalled to be treated so disrespectfully and with such arrogance. Ultimately, I guess that it is better to discover, before establishing a relationship with Dupont Veterinary Clinic that they have so little regard for the care and treatment of my pet. I am very sorry that Dupont Veterinary Clinic thinks their patients are merely numbers and that a Doctor/Patient relationship is inter-changeable upon their whim.

To add insult to injury, I was promised that the office manager would call me the next day regarding my very negative experience. Two days have passed and he has not called.

We have been taking our dog to Dupont Veterinary since we moved to Washington DC, and have always been able to get an appointment with Dr. Hollis, who has been wonderful. We recently also scheduled an emergency appointment with a different Doctor who was also perfectly adequate (who is not posted on the staff page so I can't confirm the name). Our concerns are always answered, and the vets have been very flexible with us about trying to reduce costs by trying the more affordable options before running additional expensive tests.
The waiting room can get quite crowded if you come at a peak time (weekends and after work), so you might want to consider looking for a less busy time if you have a sensitive pet.
We also boarded our dog with Shady Spring Kennels (which has pick-up and drop-off and Dupont) for about a week recently and had no problems.
The prices are not cheap, but Dupont is not a cheap neighborhood in general, and we are willing to pay rather than have to travel outside the city.

Ive been going to Dupont Vet Clinic since I moved here in 1998. I agree its ridiculously expensive, but part of the reason I stay is Dr. Hollis. I make sure to schedule appointments with her, and her only. Its the only reason I continue to use the clinic. She has a history with all my cats and knows them which makes me feel comfortable. I wont use another Dr. in the office.

I have thought of finding another vet because of price but havent come across any reviews that are amazing and affordable. The staff/front desk at Dupont is a mixed bag. You could get one of them on a bad day and they are rude and dismissive. Or you can get lucky and they've taken happy pills and are easy to deal with. If Dr. Hollis leaves the practice, I will find another clinic for sure. I once brought in a ferel cat for shots and they forgot to give it the Feline Leukemia shot which i paid for. I only found out about it 3 years later when the chart was reviewed. It wasnt Dr. Hollis who forgot to do it, but another vet covering for her while she was out. I have used Friendship Heights in cases of emergency and they were great but super $$$$$$. I think many clinics, Dupont especially know that pet lovers will pay almost whatever for their pets to be healthy/safe and thats part of the problem/scam.

Dupont vet is a great clinic where the staff are knowledgable and courteous. The news for our dog was not what we would have wanted to hear, but the Dr. (whom we was from the time the dog was a puppy) was honest about the degenerative nature of Max's condition. Being able to know what was happening to our dog helped us to make an informed decision about how long to treat his condition and when it was time our Dr. was with us every step of the way. Dupont Vet is not a clinic for price shoppers or unrealistic pet owner but a fantastic clinic for pet owners who want an honest opinion from a clinic that takes their business seriously.

It is very difficult when moving to a new area to replace the services one has depended on in one's former home. However, none can be more important than the health of one's self and one's pet. Since the DuPont Vet clinic was close to my home and office, it seemed a good place to get care for my dog. He didn't like going there, though he has never liked going to doctors' or groomers' offices. He went for three yearly checkups and to have his teeth cleaning, which required anesthesia, and cost twice what I had paid at home in Chicago. The bill was always a minimum of $150 and each time there was a new doctor. This was the issue, though, each doctor appeared to read his charts, the review seemed cursory, and when they discovered health issues with his kidneys, they did not make clear how serious the condition was. If you choose to take your pet there, realize that you will never see the same vet twice. I would recommend doing what I did three months ago, do your research and find a Vet who will come to know your pet over years of care and have a more vested interest. Unfortunately, just this last weekend my dog died of immediate onset of kidney failure, something that I feel could have been prevented with ample preventative measures.

When we first got our puppy we lived in Adams Morgan two doors from the Adams Morgan hospital on 18th st and we were warned off of it by everyone at the dog park. But Dupont Vet got glowing marks from everyone. At the beginning things were ok but over the years I have been less and less satisfied and now I will no longer go, here is my catalog of experiences. I also agree with another review that thinks that the practice was maybe bought and is now different. I think they are living off their old good name and are now terrible.-I have NEVER seen the same vet twice, not even in the midst of the same injury they still pass you around.- I was told that my puppy would be sutured with dissolving stitches, which she was on the outside but they used wire stitches on the inside, which i am told is the ancient and lazy way.-prices are exorbitant- my second dog(adopted a year later) started throwing up wed night and then every night until tuesday, that is SIX nights getting sick. It took 3 visits and 700 dollars before they took xrays and determined the cause. So he's been miserable and sick for a week because it took them that long to look for an obstruction.-when they realized it was an obstruction, rather than suggest an endoscopy, a far less invasive and safe procedure(probably because they don't have an endoscope), they were going to do surgery to take it out rather than refer us to somewhere else.- the front desk people have an attitude and you always have to wait, the guy at the front desk actually jumps away and shouts when dogs try to go near him like he is afraid of dogs-the vets are about 12 years old, i think it is a training camp for vets right out of school to try and deal with the large number of clients, their medical director has only been practicing 5 years!THIS PLACE HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS I DONT TRUST THEM WITH MY ANIMALS AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU.

I've been going to the dupont vet clinic for about 6 years, and their service has gotten worse and worse. The last time I had to take my "difficult" cat, they informed me (after fighting and stressing her and me out to get her there) that they didn't have the equipment to examine her (on a saturday) and they should have told me at the front desk when I made the appt. I would have to reschedule and make an appt during the week. As a result of the stressful visit (since there are also about 5-6 dogs that rush you in the lobby, and no quiet space to take your stressed out animal) she developed a horrible urinary tract infection. I also had a horrible boarding experience there, where she pee-ed and messed herself and they couldn't calm her down or clean here so I had a very stressed and dirty cat when I picked her up (they explained it was because they don't have people on duty at night...would have been nice to know about that before I took here there). I left permission there to keep her sedated when she was there, but instead they let her get more and more upset. I've since taken her to friendship heights which has been sooooo professional and great to me and the cat. They have a very open and peaceful lobby as you enter. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and professional. They have recommended several vets who make house calls since my cat gets stressed out by traveling (this was never offered as an option by Dupont), a cat behavioral specialist who makes house calls (the only one ever offered at Dupont was out in Maryland and required a day off from work and traveling...the folks at Friendship said a behaviorist usually make house calls to see the cat in its surroundings rather than making you to go them), and understanding that my cat is easily stressed. Don't take your cats to Dupont vet!!!Comment on Review Delete Review Post CommentCancel
