The best Etiopian food you can hope to have anywhere. The food is extremely good. The resaurant is always crowded, and the service is pretty slow. The ambience is good, with plenty of Ethiopean/African handicrafts adorning the walls.

Very delicious authentic food. I liked the inside, which was very quaint, with three floors. We had a little circular table, which was just the right size for the large platter that we were served. It is a good place for small groups, and for larger groups I believe you need to register in advance. The waitress was very good, and the inside was decorated with a lot of original ethiopian textiles.

This is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in DC. Friends and acquaintances who are either from, or have spent time in Ethiopia have told me that this place is authentic. It is standard stop when I have out of town visitors and I highly recommend it!

Everytime I'm in D.C., I visit Meskerem and my companions are always impressed and grateful for the experience. The previous review sums up the food and atmosphere very nicely. Plenty of vegetarian selections. Prices are extremely reasonable and the neighborhood is usually fun.

Authentic Ethiopian Cuisine
by chowhound369
My Ethiopian friend recommended Meskerem and she was right. Delicious doro-watt (chicken and eggs, eaten with injera ((sponge bread)). We had a great time eating with our fingers, sitting on cushions around a communal table of food. The berbere sauce was spicy and flavorful. Honey wine, while too sweet for most tastes, was a nice complement to the spicy platter of greens, chicken, and chic peas (similar to hummus, but thicker).
Pros: doro-watt, berbere, injera
