Watch out for this place after dark -- Don Juan serves its harder-drinking customers to the point of passing out or worse. I was getting take out a couple weeks back and on my way home two guys stumbled out and started screaming and taking swings at each other. Sadly, that wasn't the first time I've seen such behavior. Food is usually okay, nothing great, but I did get two bone pieces in supposedly boneless pulled chicken. Kind of soured me on the whole menu.

Don Juan's is the Salvadoran equivalent of a traditional American diner or saloon. It's located at a busy intersection in Mt Pleasant. Don Juan's takes up most of a corner, but inside it feels smaller than you'd expect. Plants fill the few windows, so it feels dark even in midday. One side of the restaurant is a bar, while the relatively sunnier side is a small family restaurant. My friends and I were the only non-Salvadorans in there, but we had a great time. The food is nothing special, but it's cheap and our waitress was very attentive. The only downside was it was very smoky in there but now that DC recently passed a smoking ban, that should no longer be an issue.
