Okyo Beauty Salon is Go to Kay!
by Kate C.
I've been going to Kay at Okyo for a few years. She's a fantastic colorist and does a great cut as well. She always seems to know what combination of highlights and lowlights will suit my complexion and what cut will complement my face. She's also a very sweet person and I've never had any problems being ignored, overcharged or treated badly in any way. She's meticulous and has great attention to detail. She always double checks the hair washers' work after they apply toner to make sure it was evenly and thoroughly applied. It is true that you won't exactly get pampered at Okyo, it's a busy no frills joint, but if you're looking for people will great skills, I highly recommend it--and Kay.

GREAT COLOR TERRIBLE SERVICE
by victoria b.
i saw paul. on the fourth visit, i was getting my hair color when an associate walked up and whispered in his ear. he hurriedly finished the root touch-up then disappeared. he gave me no heat so i sat there for over an hour. after i was shampooed i saw him blow-drying another customer. then he cut ANOTHER customer's hair. i stood there, dripping, for over an hour. he never mentioned needing to help anyone else and i would have been more understanding if he'd explained the situation. instead, i was so furious, i let him cut my hair, paid, and left. it gets worse-he'd charged me for full head highlights! a girlfriend had a similar experience with another hairdresser (adina) who was going on vacation the next day. DON'T GO HERE!

Better off at Fiddleheads
by Brooke B.
Today I tried Okyo salon for the first time and received one of the worst haircuts I have received in the last decade. Even my boyfriend--someone utterly uninterested in hair--thinks it looks ridiculous. I had two simple stipulations: wide latitude as long as the hair fell below the shoulder and I did not have bangs. My hair falls above my shoulders, and I have bangs. As a matter of fact, i look like I am recovering from the eighties, as if I am trying to grow out "wings". I repeatedly voiced my concerns, and I was repeatedly ignored. Whatever you do, do not see Adina. While the salon was kind enough to refund my money, I will still have this ridiculous haircut in 2 weeks as maid of honor at my sister's wedding. The photos will outlive the cut.
PROS: none
CONS: cost, uninspired color, unflattering and ugly haircut

Paul is my stylist at Okyo and he does spectacular work. Most of the problems with fine hair come from bad products not necessarily a bad cut I learned from him. Okyo uses its own product, backs it, and I think it's great. Bumble and Bumble have some great products for fine hair (depending on what your desired look is) but they are costly. Located in Georgetown, a parking space will be hard to find and prices are high but the stylists and staff are very helpful and you will get your money's worth. Recommended for their expertise on fine hair.
