I have stayed at this hotel numerous times for its great location in downtown Washington. The hotel is located about a block away from the White House, a couple of blocks from the Washington Monument, and is within easy walking distance from many of the other notable attractions that Washington has to offer.
The lobby of the hotel is beautiful and when you enter the staff are quick to assist you. There is a Starbucks in the lobby and numerous couches and chairs to relax on. There is also parking at the hotel - it's valet parking, and I believe it's about $25/day. In my opinion, there is no need to have a car here as the hotel is a short walk away from both the Metro Center and Federal Triangle metro stations.
The rooms are very nice with great bathrooms and attractive furniture. Some of the rooms have terrific views of the Washington Monument or down Penn. Ave toward the Capitol -- sometimes, you will get lucky and randomly get one of these rooms; more often, however, you are offered the opportunity to upgrade to a 'city view' room for an additional $20 per night which, in my opinion, is well worth the money for the great views.
The hotel has numerous ballrooms and is, as a result, generally bustling with activity. There are a couple of places to eat within the hotel -- 1331, which is a fairly expensive restaurant/lounge, and the Avenue Grill which is a less expensive location for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Though this hotel is in a great location for sightseeing, it can get a little quiet around the hotel at night as not too much is open. However, that's not a problem as it's so easy to take the Metro to other parts of the city.
Having stayed here many times myself, I would highly recommend this hotel to a friend.
PROS: Great location for sightseeing, beautiful accomodations
CONS: Area can be a little slow at night
