Thanks to really bad traffic I was 10 mins late (I know that part is my fault) & they cancelled my appointment for a haircut, wash & blow dry & couldn't even fit me in for just the wash & blow dry (I had a date that night) and there was enough time in the appointment left for it. I rescheduled for the next morning. The next morning they kept me waiting 15 mins past my appt time w/ no apology then kept me sitting for another 5+ mins in the hair wash chair & then complained that my hair was too thick & that I should have scheduled a longer appt than the 30 mins they give for a haircut. After exactly 30 mins (including the 5+ mins they left me sitting in the hair wash chair) the stylist passed me off to an assistant to finish off & was very rude to me. I was a 1st time customer & never was told that it was only a 30 min appointment (who has appts that short?) or that I may want to schedule a longer appointment if I have hair longer than shoulder length. In the end the stylist didn't even work on my hair for the full 30 mins. Extremely disapointed by the rude treatment & I'm never going again-there are enough other good salons in DC that know how to treat their customer well and fairly.

SCAM!!!! Do not book here! I was given wrong information about the salon's location and am getting charged an absurd amount for an appointment at a salon I have never been to none the less can access ! I get traditional highlights every three months for the past five years from my salon in Florida. I decided since I attend school in DC I might also venture to the city to have my hair highlighted. The front desk individuals we needless to say two faced and heartless. I am now terrified to book anywhere in DC. Please off of principle do not support this organization. On a side note, I just made a yelp account to prevent this from happening to others.

I'd look elsewhere for a good haircut. The location is very close to where I live so I've given them a couple of tries. I think I've had 1 decent haircut out of 3 or 4 attempts. The main problem I see it that the stylists don't pay any attention at all to what you tell them. "Don't take much off the bangs and thin out the top" apparently translates to the first cut hacking the front of your hair down to about 1/2 an inch and shaving the sides. Not good. I went from a haircut that just needed a little taken off and cleaned up, to...well basically a crew cut. Not sure how a stylist can think that is a success. If you do venture in, I wish you luck.

My stylist was friendly, but the cut was pretty sloppy. Highlights were quite bad. They were uneven (much heavier on one side of my head than the other), bled through the foils, were the wrong color for my complexion, and were sparse and chunky. I paid for a full highlight and got only a few haphazard foils thrown in, each with a big hunk of hair. The color started about an inch and a half from the scalp, so I left looking like I already had 2 months' worth of roots.

So I bit the bullet and tried Bang. After reading reviews about how awesome Ryan is at Gallery Place I thought I would be in good hands - wrong. I had a growing out "Posh Spice" bob and told him I wanted to even out the ends a bit - make it less severe of an angle. Also I wanted a side-swept bang for a little volume, nothing fancy After telling me he was going to take a half an inch off the bottom, I left with layered MOM hair! What's worse is that the layers are cut straight across and not blended in at all! He may be good at longer hair, but if you have shoulder length hair or shorter, save your social life and stay away. I'll be spending the next few months holding up my sides with a dozen bobby pins until I no longer look like a middle aged woman from the early 90s.

I have been getting my hair cut here for years now. My Stylist Brennan was recommended to me by a friend. On the way to my first appointment, my car broke down. I called and the front desk staff squeezed me in later in the day. THANK GOODNESS! Brennan is a miracle worker. I came outa there looking like a rock star!!!! I love the vibe, it's not a salon you're going to get pampered in. If that's what you're into, go to Georgetown and shell out 100 bucks for a cut! I'll stick with Bang for cheap amazing styles.

I just moved to the city and needed a haircut. I'm always so scared of getting cuts. I'm not really that trendy or cool. I went to Selma at the U Street location and she did a fantastic job. Best haircut I have ever had. She is absolutely charming and it was a pleasure to sit in her chair for 30 minutes. Quick and fabulous. Not a bad price either. She did exactly what I asked her to do and made it even better with a few more touches. I know the late policy, the online appointments and reserving it with a credit card seems weird- im a small town girl so this was out there for me- but it was so worth it.

Where to begin - well the online booking that seemed great would not allow me to book the hour I apparently needed to get my full head of hair both but & blown dry. He of course doesn't tell me this until the very end. That is the whole point of getting it cut, the great blow out!!! Oh and get this they took me back to wash me before the stylist ever saw me and had a chance to see what my hair looked like dry and how it sat, etc... So much for consultations and caring what the customer wants! Now I'm forced to go back to work looking like a soggy kid who got stuck outside without an umbrella! They are rude, cocky, snobby, and too busy to care about clients!

The only nice people there were the guys who shampooed my hair - and even that was messed up - I had to rewash it myself to get out the soap they missed b/c when i told the guy about it, he just shrugged! Anyway, they charge if you're 15 minutes late but I honestly had to wait 45 minutes for my shampoo. then another 15 minutes for the stylist to come over and speak to me in a very demeaning way about what exactly it was that I wanted. I ended up with an okay haircut but really bad choice of bangs in the front - because she WOULDN'T listen to me!! Overall, bad service and the money was NOT worth it. Staff are snobby and front desk people are clueless and very inattentive- they have their music on and are getting paid so what do they care where your stylist is? You could sit there for a hour (i did) and your time isn't worth anything!!

Please take my warning and never go to this salon! I received the worst haircut/color of my life and it was ridiculously overpriced and the stylist Jason was extremly rude. When I went to another salon to have it corrected she concured that the color was terrible and that it looked like a child took a pair of sisors to my hair in spots on my scalp. My fiance couldn't even lie to me and say it looked nice when I came in the door in tears, he just helped me find a salon to fix it and fast.

I would give it zero stars if I could. Worst salon I have ever been to!

I lived in Manhattan for 8 years, Paris and Boston, and I've had the best haircut and color experiences at Bang. The atmosphere is fun, yet professional, and Selma is attentive and talented. The prices are quite reasonable, approx. $125 for cut and half-foil highlights. I will certainly miss the service here when I leave DC.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I got the absolute worst haircut of my life at Bang recently -- which is saying a lot, because I was bald for awhile. My stylist asked me TONS of questions, which I thought meant he was being really attentive & taking mental notes.... apparently not. After asking for funky, razored layers to give me body & telling him I'm growing my hair OUT, he gave me a VERY short soccer mom bob with zero layers. I was so upset with the cut that the receptionist refused to let me pay, but let me tell you - I'd rather pay huge for a great haircut than get a terrible one free. My pocketbook has never from hurt from a haircut as badly as my ego does form this one. Bottom line? Be wary of Bang.

When I first found this hair salon, the U street area was still rough around the edges. THe hairsalon stood out like a diamond in the rough. I was looking for a place I could get a haircut i could afford to maintain and Bang Salon was just the place for me. Four years later, some of the stylists have changed and the beautiful brand new Verizon Center location is booming- but Bang Salon is still the only place I get my hair cut.

I scheduled an appointment at the Verizon Center location. Even after the receptionist called and told me to come 15 minutes later for my appointment because the stylist was running behind, I still had to sit for 30 minutes. Someone finally came to shampoo my hair but the stylist never even did a consultation. This was my first visit to this salon. How is the stylist supposed to know what my hair issues are if she only sees my hair wet? I asked to see the stylist first. She stomped into the shampoo room 10 minutes later, and asked if I still wanted a haircut. At this point I said "not really" so she said "Good!" turned, and stomped out. I have had better service at $8 haircut salons.

For a place that will charge you for being 15 minutes late, they think nothing of letting you sit there for 30 minutes as if YOUR time isn't worth anything. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!

I was a little intimidated by the tatoos but don't be fooled.

They were easy to work with when I needed to reschedule...friendly with great advice. Everyone was upbeat, positive and all the clients I saw came out with great haircuts!

I HIGHLY recommend Selma. She was super nice, attentive and gave me my favorite haircut yet! And you can't beat the $38 price tag.

Whether you just want a trim, new look or an update, everyone I saw came out looking great!

All the stylist at Bang and the staff are very friendly and knowledgable. This is the best place in DC to get an hip and affordable haircut!! The staff is nice and friendly. They made me feel welcome. If you are looking for an appointment for the evenings I suggest you book early or you'll be waiting for weeks. They are that good!

The establishment:

30 minutes after checking in I went back to the desk to ask the receptionist what was going on.... "Oh, you are here?" was the response from the same woman I checked in with. I later found out they had charged my credit card for my "lateness" anyway.

The service:

I never saw my "stylist." The assistant applied a "glaze" which later had to be washed out because it was applied without processor. Genius. Again, under the dryer, the assistant failed to utilize a hair-clip to contain my long locks, which proceeded to drip chemical product all over my silk shirt. Later, I had to physically grab someone walking by in order to get rinsed out, already 10 minutes after my timer went off. The incompetence did not stop here....the rinsing out phase was possibly the worst part. I had to go to a play after with sticky product lodged in my ears, all over my neck, and with 1/2 my head stiffed with product that should have been washed out.

Save yourself the time and the agony; go ANYWHERE else.

If you are looking for a cut and color from a hungover, lipgloss reapplying, inattentive "stylist" sporting the worst of 80s new wave fashion, this is the place for you. I actually had a woman override my hair color choice without telling me, and I ended up getting exactly what I did NOT want. When I told her that I did, in fact, know what I was talking about, she argued with me and told me that I was breaking the "laws of color." I even wrote the manager a letter afterwards and never heard a word back.

They'll keep you waiting and then they'll ignore you when you're finally in their chair. Do yourself a favor. Skip it.

(For men's cuts - $30) I recently defected from another salon and chose Bang, due mainly to their great website. I got lucky when someone cancelled an appointment with Bryce right before I called. Apparently, he books about 2-3 weeks in advance. I was very happy with both the business side of Bang Salon and with Bryce. The front desk people were nice and efficient. The whole place has the feel of a much more expensive salon.

Bryce is clearly talented enough to be working at one of the top (most expensive) places in the city. He was also very nice and easy to work with. I am very pleased with the cut. From what I saw, all of the stylists here are talented and, given the price, a great value too.

PROS: Efficient, polite front desk - Great Stylists
CONS: None!

I heard a lot of positive reviews about this place. And this salon certainly came to my expectations. I was clearly impressed with the professional service, very attentive and considerate. I was helped by Bruce and he gave me an excellent haircut and really amazing highlights. My hair looks fantastic. Two thumbs up for Bang!

I went to this salon after seeing it written up in numerous magazines. It seems almost too good to be true, but while it has the atmosphere of a MUCH pricier place--thumping music, young, fashionable staff, city setting--the average cut is only $35. The other plus with a less expensive place is that the people who work here don't come off as snobby, which can happen at some of the chicer salons if you aren't lucky. The staff is friendly and talkative and happy to let you know what works well for your hair. I am hesitant to post the name of the stylist I saw, if only because it already takes a week and a half to get an appointment. (Ask for Angela.)

Bang is a great deal--where else can you get a quality women's haircut for just $35 in DC? The salon itself is small and the decor is urban and cool, with lots of chrome and light wood. Vera has always given me a great haircut. The salon stays open late and offers other services, too (coloring, hair removal, manicures, etc.). You can even make appointments online through their website. Highly recommended!

I'm very picky about my haircuts, but i threw in the towel and got a cut done here after seeing my best friend's. I tried Bang on U Street and LOVED it - both for color and cut, it was like my hairstylist read my mind. All of the people that leave there look great, so I highly recommend giving them a try. Don't let their tattoos and dyed hair fool you - they all seem very good.

Bang Salon is one of those hip places starting to show up on U St. They have good prices, excellent products for sale, and a very friendly staff. They also have a doctor on staff who does laser hair removal for men and women. She is excellent, very pleasant and knowledgeable, and is great to deal with.
