Horrible

by Gaston B.

I had the worst culinary experience of my life there (twice). The ambiance matches the food perfectly. Overcooked and flavorless food, spilled beer and slow service, overpriced for what it is; rowdy and drunk kids on the best nights...the most overrated place in town. Nice decor, patio, and great location are the only +s.

My thought is that this is probably one of the relics of the dot.com era...my guess is that kids with a few bucks and no knowledge of the restaurant business must own this restaurant.

squandering potential

by h g.

nice crowd one moment, waay too conservative for u street the next.. maybe some of that crowd will move back to Texas or wherever they came from after Bush is gone. It's where a certain demographic can feel like they are part of a hip scene that wants nothing to do with them. ok music downstairs but too dark.

Good food, decent scene

by Susan W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,666

The food here is pretty good - I especially love the eggs over cheese grits for brunch. It can be difficult to get a table sometimes, but other times you can walk right in. The bar tends to get very crowded, making it difficult to wait there when there is a wait for a table. It's one of the better restaurants in the neighborhood, so it's often bustling.

Great neighborhood gathering spot

by Jenny K. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,883

Cafe Saint Ex is a fantastic place to have Sunday brunch. Everything on the brunch menu is great, and the outdoor seating can't be beat. Go in the evening for some great beers on tap and the gorgeous bar inside. The theme is airplanes, and the place is unique and lovely. There's another bar and DJs in the basement if you're interested in sticking around and dancing. This is a little gem in DC's Logan Park area.

Trendy

by Chris S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,123

Rumors of the Bush twins frequenting this bar have attracted the old Smith Point crew. When it's nto packed with the pretentious, its a pretty cool bar. Also has an Ipod DJ night where you can hook up yoru Ipod for all to hear 15 minutes of your choice of music.

PROS: nice change from gtown and adams morgan
CONS: crowd
