4 Stars: Gay bookstore (by Betsy S.)

If you are looking for any sort of book about gays, lesbians, or transgender, you will probably find it here at Lambda rising. I believe they have another branch at rehoboth beach. I have been there once, but they seemed to have a really large selection of books, both mainstream (regarding G&L) or more specific books.

4 Stars: Food for the Brain (by Tim T.)

Lambda Rising bookstore had a wide range of books from children's book (clifford the big red dog, magic school bus..etc) to adult romance series. In my opinion, the book there are very nice and all seem brand new and kept at a high standard. They also seem to be keeping up with the times and keep the book up to date. They also have the new harry potter book and the old ones as well. They have magazines too.

3 Stars: Fun Gay-themed store (by Sara D.)

Walking by Lambda Rising on the street, it's instantly apparent that this is a very gay-friendly place. Given that it's situated in Dupont Circle that's not at all surprising. A trip inside will reveal things like rainbow-colored soap, books on the Gay and Lesbian experience and all other sorts of postcards and trinkets which are interesting to both straight and gay clientele alike. One caution: this is probably not the place to take young children since there may be some pornographic materials and books around.

3 Stars: Scandalous but Thorough (by Jon R.)

Lambda Rising is very good at what it does: books, gifts, and toys of the sexual persuasion in a hip, nearly gothic atmosphere. If you're into what Lambda Rising has to sell, this is a great place to get your kink on. If you can't handle the heat, though, its probably wise to stay out of this kitchen.

4 Stars: Lambda Rising ~ Nice Little Shop in Dupont Circle (by Lori T.)

Lambda Rising is the place dowmn on Connecticut Ave NW above Dupont Circle proper with all the rainbow stuff in the windows. That should be your first clue that if you are in anyway homophobic, this is not your store.

I love the place. I'm not Gay, but I love the sense of humor here. Mostly it's all about the books which are either about the gay lifestyle, or written by gay authors. They have a really nice selection here.

In the back, you can find all the fun naughty stuff from a small rack of risque clothing to the wonderfully hilarious greeting cards. Hey, I like looking at nekkid men too, ok? That's not just the domain of gay males. The humor in the cards is gay oriented, but I do have a lot of gay friends so this is great.

They have lots of little things here and there too like bumper stickers, key chains, buttons, etc. Heck, I could spend an hour just reaing all of those!

The staff here is very fun too. You can tell by the ornery grins that they love life and hope you do too. I love entering a store that gives off such great vibes.

So go ahead and walk on in, gay or not. They don't care about your orientation, just that your nice.

PROS: Fun atmosphere
CONS: hmmm not really
