You have to try their hot chocolate--it is the best. Just don't go on weekends.... It is the perfect day-time spot for Internet, cupcakes, and hot chocolate Monday - Friday. (Just avoid the weekends!)

Went yesterday evening 05/19/08 for the first time and I have to admit... it was just OK. We went in after hearing from a friend that it was "so neat... you can create your own cupcakes!!" But when we got there, there wasn't much creating going on. They had one cupcake option and one frosting option (raspberry). Otherwise you could choose from what was pre-made in the case (which we did). We took the cupcakes to-go, so I can't speak to anything other than the cupcakes but the frosting was so overly sweet and dominating you could hardly taste the cake. For some, this may be awesome, but I believe in a fine cake to frosting ratio... you shouldn't have one flavor dominate the other. They should complement eachother. - - Probably will not go back.

Love Cafe is one of my favorite places to bring visiting friends for some seriously rich, butter-filled treats. The cafe has a relaxed, casual atmosphere with cushy chairs and cozy tables. They serve basic semi-gourmet sandwiches, soup and salads--but that's not why you should check out Love Cafe (although the apple walnut salad is pretty good). The main event is the desserts: huge slices of buttercream and ganache-iced cakes, cream-filled and fruit-topped pastries, dozens of cupcake varieties, and 2 or 3 super-rich cheesecakes. Pastries have cutesy names like buzz bulls, instead of mini-eclairs. My favorite is the lemon curd and blueberry topped "crunchy feet." Mmmm...

Love Cafe is the brainchild of a local celebrity baker, who owns the Cake Love bakery across the street. In the past couple of years, Love Cafe became very trendy with a multi-cultural crowd of sugar-indulging hipsters. Since it's profile has jumped up (the owner now has a show on the Food Network), new family-focused customers from out of town have shown up. I've seem this result in customer service clashes between tense tourists and the young staff. You can avoid this by not expect great service. The staff may at time be brusque, harried and rude but the cake is soooo good.

PROS: deliciously rich treats in a relaxed atmosphere
CONS: goodies are overpriced, expect to pay $7-8 for a slice of cake

we went on a sunday afternoon. The place was packed and nary a seat to be found for a while. Also, they only had cupcakes, cheesecake, and a very few other items. Disappointing for a cafe directly associated and next door to Cake Love bakery. But the cheesecake was so creamy, not too sweet, delicately flavored. No regrets, though I don't feel like going back there.

PROS: Cheesecake
CONS: Overcrowded, poor selection
