BAD SERVICE: Waiter only interested in maximizing tip. Only recommended most expensive items and literally refused to bring complimentary bread until we were "ready to order some Tapas".

FOOD POISONING: Wife and son sick for two days

Jaleo is great for when you're craving tapas but also want something a little new - this Jose Andres institution offers plenty of the patatas bravas and gambas that we all know and love, but also gives us some very unique options - sea urchin, anyone? Come here for lunch, dinner or even brunch and you won't be disappointed. And don't forget the sangria - it's one of the best you can find here in DC.

Pros: lots of traditional dishes but many unique ones as well

Cons: can get crowded - prepare for a wait

If you're looking for Spanish tapas, you've picked the right place! Before Jaleo started to become really popular, this was a great place, it wasn't as cramped as it is now, so ladies, if you're a little bit larger, stick to one or two small plates so that you can navigate between tables and chairs on the journey to the ladies room. The eggplants have a great combination of sweet and salty; the cuttlefish in the paella (to be shared with others, of course) has a great texture and tastes like fish that isn't too "fishy". Of course it takes a good 15-20 minutes for the server to realize that you need a refill for your drink and to clear your plates or realize that he or she has forgotten to take your order, so if you're impatient, try ordering take out.

We always enjoy Jaleo's. Have eaten at Bethesda and DC locations and had good food at both. The Bethesda location is more relaxing (once you can find parking), whereas the DC location is good if you have a play or concert to attend afterwards. Not cheap eats, but also not too expensive for the quality. We usually order 3 or 4 dishes each and share. Don't skip dessert! They also will send promotions and birthday "gifts" via email if you sign up.

crystal city location. overpriced and sub standard food. as a spaniard and no stranger to spanish cuisine, i can honestly say this restaurant is an embarrassment to the spanish culture. i didn't realize it was a chain, or i would have avoided it. a pitcher of sangria was $27 and tasted like plain water with fruit in. paella ($42+)takes about 30 mins to bring out and was terrible as well. it was chicken and brown rice, rather than the traditional saffron (yellow) rice. our waiter was clueless, he said we could have some tapas while we waited for the paella, which goes against the whole point of having tapas as a meal. stay away from this place!

I love the DC and MD location. Both places offer great tapas and its easy to get carried away. The tapas are decently priced but because they are pretty cheap you end up ordering more and then your bill is much more expensive that you wanted. But the food is so good that you easily forget your high bar tab.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and great service. There are plenty of vegetarian options. It's a lot of fun to share different little dishes with everyone at the table. Ingredients are simple and fresh. Prices are very reasonable.

Jaleo has my heart! When I first dined @ Jaleo back in the 90s, I knew this would be one of my favorite restaurants. However, over the years, it has become my "favorite" restaurant hands down--no competitition. Whenever I'm asked "where do you want to go" my answer if always a resounding Jaleo! The Sangria, the Sangria, oh my the Sangria. I could go there for breakfast and still order the Sangria. I love a restaurant that stays constant with their menu and atmosphere. Everytime I go, I'm guaranteed to have a wonderful time. Keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep coming back.
