Kolb Electric Incorporated

We'd been having electrical troubles in our house with half the house going dead. We knew there was a snow storm coming and couldn't be without electricity, so we called KOLB. They came out and said there was nothing wrong and that our problem was due to water getting into the female socket of our outdoor Christmas lights. Being a lamen, we took their word for it and covered the female sockets like he suggested. Well, the next day we get home from work and we have no electricity, no heat and we're anticipating 20" of snow. The problem ended up being an electrical connection from our outdoor electrical box to the house but KOLB never even thought to look outside at the box but had the ignorant forethought to look at our Christmas lights. VA Power, who fixed our problem as the snow was falling, (thank God for them) shamed KOLB that they never thought to look outside and when I called customer service to see if anyone could come out- that just topped the cake of pitifulness!!!

I had this company do a job for my business.It was absolutely a robbery in public daylight.The electric part that should have just cost me $150,they charged me $578.That is apart from the $125/hr labour charge and it took them four hours to finish it which should have only been a half hour job.They just decide for themselves how many workers they need and charge for each one of them.And the job that should have just cost me under $300 ended up costing $1100.Once i found out the actual price of the product,i called them back,i told them the cost of your time which was over 500 dollars i can let it go because time is money for everybody.But charging over 500% for parts is unacceptable.They were not willing to do anything about it,and the guy even sarcastically told me to put a compalint against him.I told him i will write this online for every one to see so that another person is not victimised by their shady business practice.If you want me to rate them it will be a 0.Because zero customer service,Zero in standing behind their work and Zero consideration.This company is a big rip off.Save yourself some frustration and go else where.

I used Kolb once in Laurel and once in Arlington. In Laurel, the problem was particularly difficult since it involved a part that was hard to find. They are just terrific! Professional, skilled and on time.

I have had Kolb do work in a house in Baltimore and one in Laurel and I was very pleased with both jobs. The technicians did not waste time and did a first rate job.

For a job that took 40 minutes - I watched as they worked - they charged for 2.5 hours. I have since discovered by checking the Internet that several other people have had the same experience.

I had a Kolb technician come to my house to assess have a electrical meter box re-attached to my house after it was removed due to my house being re-sided.

It costs $95 for the tech to determine what needed to be done. Apparently the tech didn't do anything to let Kolb know about my job and what was required. Kolb called back later and wanted to schedule another $95 visit. They had no record of their tech having already visiting me.

They need to get their act together with communication.

In the service and repair industry, you have to watch out for people who maximize their profit by taking too many hours or over buying equipment. I've had Kolb electricians come to my apartment on two occasions and they've worked very efficiently each time. Another thing working in their favor is that they have numerous technocians for each locality, thus insuring that you won't have to wait more than a few days to have your problem solved.
