This gallery mostly features American art from the 17th century to the present. This gallery is filled with a wide range of periods and styles, so you won't get bored. It might not be a place to take younger children who would probably enjoy the National Museum of Natural History instead. My son (11 years old) thought that this was an interesting gallery but enjoyed the National Museum of National History a lot more. After this Gallery we strolled over to the Renwick Gallery which was a little more upbeat.

Nice little art gallery. Take a date there to impress. Nice place to also host the company Christmas party. The gallery actually rents out the place for private parties.

The Corcoran is a great place to take your parents when they come to town. Not that I don't like art, but I generally go to the National Art Musuem, since it is free. Also the people at the Corcoran aren't always the friendliest. The only plus, it has a great little restaurant attached to it.

The Corcoran Gallery of Art is located within the Corcoran College of Art and Design. They have several different collections including American Art, European Art, Contemporary Art, Photography and Media Arts, and Prints and Drawings. There is a wide range of artists represented here, even though the gallery is small in comparison to the other art museums in the area.

They feature new artist exhibitions, usually from Corcoran Students, quite often. Some of them are cool, while others are off the wall. You can learn more at their website, www.corcoran.org.

The cafe located within the Corcoran Gallery is pretty reasonably priced. The hours are a bit strange, since they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. They are open Wednesday - Sunday from 10am - 5pm, and until 9pm on Thursday.

Entry fee is inexpensive, and even free if you go after 5pm on Thursday. If you like artwork, this is a good gallery to go to. If you're not that into Art, stick with the Smithsonians.

PROS: good exhibits, some classic works, inexpensive or free
CONS: small, strange hours
