National Museum of Arts, after they close for the daily visitors, now it opens for all night party for the hard working Washingtonians. "Sorry by invitation only" the man in W hat yelled at me.

I've been here twice already, and still haven't been able to see nearly half of the whole collection. I love the Renaissance paintings, although all the pieces have been carefully chosen to represent every period in great art. There is much more than just paintings, such as the modern twisted steel pieces. It's neat for an art aficionado, or a great way to introduce new people to the world of art.

This can be overwhelming to see in just one day, so plan your visit to incorporate a week, if you'd like to truly see and get a feel for all the artwork they house. The layout of the buildings is like a maze, so it's quite easy to miss a painting, which is why I recommend taking a friend or two for extra sets of eyes. It's interesting to see how art has progressed from the Middle Age "gothic" style, where they clumped a bunch of heads together in a grape-like shape, to present day modern art. I love this gallery!

There is something for everyone here. I am a fan of Impressionist painters as well as some of the Renaissance. Their collection is wonderful and even though I live close by, I still am impressed every time I return (which is about twice a year.) The exhibiits are great! Their cafeteria has improved in recent years so that the food is pretty good with a wide selection, a bit pricey but that's to be expected! And of course, it's a short walk from the metro which makes it even easier to get to!

Wow, this art gallery houses more than 100,000 artistic creations in two gigantic buildings, and will take weeks to see everything in great detail. The spawn of art work dates back to the Middle Ages, up until the present time, so you can see how art has developed over time. The gallery twists and turns from one exhibit to the next, and I'm always afraid I've missed something while navigating through!! The artwork is extensive: steel sculptures, marble creations, delicate portraits, life-sized carvings, and everything in between. For an art afficionado, this museum truly is like Heaven. I recommend bringing a friend - it's enjoyable to talk about what each piece symbolizes.

The National Gallery of Art is a fantastic place to spend the day. There are tons of exhibits by great artists: Picasso, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Picasso... You get the idea. The museum is enormous, and has special exhibits often. Be sure you call before going so you can find out what they are featuring.

There is a place to eat in the lower level, as well as nearby restaurants. This is definitely a good way to spend the day.

PROS: awesome works of art, lots to see
CONS: nothing
