Absolute worst service I've ever experienced. This is my first time ever writing a review for anything online. I felt I needed to take the time to let everyone know. I went in with 1100 planning to buy a kayak. Im always super laid back with my questions and not a dick in any way whatsoever. After asking some questions I received useless and rather rude responses. I decided then and there to take my business elsewhere and went and boight a kayak near Fredericksburg. Will not return to the store ever after my first visit.

I have been a loyal customer for many years.. As of Dec. 13, 2010, I will not longer do business with HTO.... reason? They refuse to place your items in a bag..They no longer offer bags when you checkout. So, if it is
raining or snowing, your new elements. This is the lowest of the low.
So, Mr.Cohan, I can and will do business with your competitors.
What a stupid decision on the part of HTO

RUDEST SERVICE I have ever had, bar none! I will never go back to this place. Where do they get these employees from?????!?!? They are clearly NOT backpackers or hikers...at least NOT the friendly ones i usually find on the trails. You would think they would at least have good prices to go with their rudeness...but, alas, significantly more expensive than REI on the majority of the things i was looking for, so, at least no loss in that department. good riddance, Hudson!!

HTO is up to it again. I should stop walking through this store but it being the only outfitting store in NW, sometimes I have to. But I have noticed something. They are MARKING UP their prices. In these hard economic times when everyone else is dropping their prices, these guys are raising them. I didn't believe it at first but then I paid close attention and confirmed it. What are these guys thinking? Now it's worth it to take the metro to Clarendon for EMS or bus it to Rockville for REI.
These guys just suck.

Although I have never tried to order anything from hudson trails online, i have had very good experiences in their store. The sales people are polite and know what they are talking about. Just last month i was getting geared up for a trip to California national parks and one of their people spent almost 2 hours helping me. My wife gets her bike worked on twice a year and suggests avoiding summer time tunes.

I went in there to find climbing equipment and a pair of boots. It took a little time to get someone to help me but the guy knew his stuff much better than anyone at REI or other shops had. The boots they got me fitted into were great. A really down home style shop with very nice people.

This place is awful. The customer service is extremely poor, the store is a mess, and their staff are idiots. I went in with some questions about beginner climbing gear for my son. After about twenty minuets I was finally able to find someone to assist me at the climbing counter. This kid had NO idea of what he was talking about. He just kept telling to buy a membership. He then tried to sell me a women's harness and didn't know the difference between static line and dynamic. And this kid sells climbing gear to people? I tried to speak with the manager but the staff said he was "in a meeting." When I finally did see him he rolled his eyes and said; "just go to REI." So that's what I did. And that's what I will always do in the future.

I just moved to Washington D.C. and took my bike in to get fixed up. The repairs were suposed to take a week, but due to their mistake it ended up taking a month and a half! And they only got the problem fixed because, after repeated useless phone calls to check in on the status of my bike, I went in to the shop and literally watched over their shoulders as they figured out what was taking so long with my bike. I ended up getting my bike back with heavy metal crappy equipment that made the bike twice as heavy as when i brought it in, and squeaky breaks. And I got all this for $13 off the original full price, which was more than what I paid for the bike in the first place. And after all of this their manager Mike had the nerve to tell me he didn't care if I never came back to the store. I will never go back to Hudson Trail Outfitters, and I hope you don't either, its overpriced, crappy service and they certainly don't care about doing a good job or keeping your business.

I went in for a tuneup on my bike and left with broken breaks they refused to fix. The manager called me a liar and said there was "nothing he could do." This place deserves to go out of business.

I also ordered an item as a Christmas present for my son- 2 weeks ago-a North Face jacket that was shown to be in stock. After faithfully checking every day for it to be delivered (forget about actually having it for Christmas day) I finally reached a person this morning (12/31)and was told it was out of stock and that an email had been sent to me last week informing me of this fact. HAH! No email,no jacket,no way I will ever do business with this store again.

If only I had read the reviews before attempting to purchase my Christmas gift from this store. I put my order through on Dec 13 and received a confirmation email on the same day. When I didn't receive my jacket, I called the customer service center and was told that my item was out of stock and my order had been canceled! However I never received an email stating this. If they had sent this to me within 24 hours or my order, I could have ordered the jacket elsewhere or gotten something else. Instead, I had nothing for my husband on Christmas.

Instead of being helpful, the customer service rep hung up on me. This is no way to treat customers. I'm extremely disappointed in the service and will never order from Hudson Trail Outfitters ever again.

I attempted to order a North Face sweater from Hudson Trail Outfitters on 12/18 to give as a gift for Christmas. I paid for expedited (2 day) shipping, in order to insure that the item arrived in time for Christmas. I received a confirmation e-mail from on 12/21 notifying me that the item I ordered would arrive on 12/26. When I sent an e-mail to Customer Service, I received a response back from Christopher Curtis, the Web Store Manager, informing me that he saw no problem in the fact that it took 72 hours to process an order for one item. The item arrived today. Instead of being a North Face sweater, it was a solar powered battery charger. I will NEVER shop at Hudson Trail Outfitters again, and would advise others to do the same.

I ordered a pair of boots that apparently never were in stock and after seven days of thinking my order would be delivered I called there service to find out where my order was. I talked to one the service persons and was told my order was canceled, I asked when were you going to alert me of the cancellation and was essentially hung-up on. I recommend anyone not to buy an item unless you can physically see what your buying. My daughter will be without what she wanted for Christmas because I wasted so much time with HTO.Thanks HTO

Sounds like I had the same experience as yesterday's poster. I ordered a North Face Parka that was shown to be in stock on the website. I placed the order on December 10. When I did not receive any email confirmation I emailed customer service and was told it was being shipped in from one of their retail stores. I called Monday the 17th and was told the same thing. When I asked "Will it be here by Christmas? the rude customer service agent insisted that it would be shipped in time. I called again today, the 19th, and "customer service agent" Natasha told me the order was cancelled as the item is out of stock! I could not believe they had not notified me after sitting on the order for 9 days. She insisted that they had notified me by email and on the phone. Not only do they cancel your order 6 days before Christmas, leaving you to start a frantic search for your kid's gift, they lie about it to cover their tracks. I will be notifying The North Face and their other vendors as well. I wonder if they will charge my credit card too.

Cancelled my order 6 days before Christmas due to
high order volume" and I WAS THE ONE WHO CALLED TO CHECK THE STATUS! If I didn't who knows if they would have ever contacted me? Maybe my son would have just not had a Christmas gift had I not taken the initiative. Customer service person was RUDE and did not sound AT ALL SYMPATHETIC when I explained that this order was a Christmas present! WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN! I am DISGUSTED!

I am a recreational runner and found Hudson Trail Outfitters by searching for a specific item on sale online. The store website lists what I would say the largest inventory in terms of variety, obviously targeting general customers as well as those who know exactly what they need. The biggest surprise is the prices - many items (including the one I was interested in) are constantly on sale at very low prices. I jumped at it (and some others), even joining their life-time preferred membership for $15 to get free shipping. My enthusiasm slowly dissipated when I failed to receive any email acknowledgment of my order or announcement of shipment in the following days. I went back online and couldn't find a way to check my order status. One week later I received three of four items I ordered and preferred membership card in a package. They were as good as I expected (correct colors and sizes and charges), but the missing item was described as out of stock. The PM card number did not get recognized online. I called the 800 number the next morning, and spoke with a what sounded like very impatient and perhaps unhappy representative. She told me that my order for the out of stock item was canceled (while I thought I should wait for it in a second package to follow), and that it is not unusual that my PM card number did not get recognized. I have kept trying to log in for a few days now and it still doesn't work at the store website. That is very disappointing and does not deliver the rebate point benefit (similar to frequent flyer mileage acct) of PM listed. I think HTO should bolster its website's functionality to allow order tracking, deliver PM benefit to online customers, and encourage their client service reps to have a better attitude.
