Ratings_icons Dr. Spencer - White Clay Creek Veterinary is

Tiffany H.

Dr. Spencer - White Clay Creek Veterinary is by far the BEST! His honesty and bedside manner can not be beat! My only regret is, that we didn't start seeing Dr. Spencer until the last few months of our dog's life. We really wish we would have choosen Dr. Spencer 8 years ago! The way Dr. Spencer and the rest of the staff made my husband and I feel, will never be forgotten. This man stood in the pouring down rain without a jacket to make sure that we were OK after putting our pet to sleep. My own doctor would never do that! His love for patients and their families is just unreal! Thank you Dr. Spencer for everything! You will always have a special place in our hearts!! Thanks, Tiffany & Ben Hodgdon (Chevy's owners)

Ratings_icons White Clay Creek Veterinary - Not for Humans Not for Pet

Kelley B.

I called to check on a visit for a poor kitty I bought at a pet store. I felt very badly for him because he was in the cage for 2-3 months and terribly he was on "SALE"!! I also have another 13 year old cat I adopted from the Humane Society and a dog I rescued from the SPCA. Needless to say, I love my animals and take very good care of them. When I bought the Kitten at the store (i really don't agree with this but felt so bad for him), they said that I would get a free visit at this location. I called the office and spoke with a girl named "Naimi" (sp?). I was looking for a new vet for all of my animals so asked about the costs of visits, shots, worming and flea treatments. She told me that the "free visit" is only within 14 days from when I bought the 5 mo old kitten. She also said that in addition to the visit fees it is another $5.00 per pet for New Patient. After she said that, I politely said Thank you, I'll take a look at my existing vet. (Windcrest, a little price and far for me, but have proven to take great care of my furry little companions.) As she hung up, she didn't quite hit the receiver down when I heard her say "Dumbass". I called back to talk to her manager and she said that her manager will not be in until Monday. I asked for her managers name and she hung up on me again. I will most definitely NOT ever be going here and recommend anyone who wants to be treated like a human being not go here either. If this is how they treat people, I certainly don't want to leave my pets in their hands.

Ratings_icons White Clay creek Vet Clinic

I have been going to White Clay Creek Veterinary clinic since 1994 with my dogs. The staff is truely professional and Dr Spencer and Dr Winwood are amazing. Dr Winwood gets down on the actual floor to check out my basset hound. I have had 2 dogs that had to be put down and they told me I could come in after hours. I have never had any problems with the staff there and they are always so friendly remembering the dogs names. I can not believe the negativety that has been posted on here. As long as I have dogs they will always go there. I have also recommended this clinic to my friends and they were also treated with respect. I always spend time with either Dr Spencer or Dr Winwood asking questions and they have never rushed me out of the office. They are doing their job and they are completely thorough. Thank you

Ratings_icons THE BEST!!

I have a minpin who when she was about a year old was poisoned by a neighbor. I thought I was going to lose her. Thanks to Dr. Spencer and his staff, she's now 12 years old. His expertise and loving care for my dog was exceptional.I never had a vet who would sit on the floor and hug and kiss and play with any pet. Dr. Spencer had nothing but compliments about how gentle my minpin was and how he wished that she had had a litter because she was so gentle. (Minpins can be very nasty).I have a second minpin that developed diabetes. Dr. Winwood has been treating him and has given him and me the same care as Dr. Spencer. She called me just to check on him and to make sure I was comfortable with his treatments. Both dogs just melt in their arms because they know that they are not going to be hurt. I can't say enough about the staff. They are a gift. Both dogs are very comfortable with each member.I was forced to go to another vet just one time because of a temporary move and they had the nerve to hold my dog's medication hostage because I was $25.00 short. Even though I told the vet of my financial terms before hand, she maxed out everything and charged me double the amount we talked about. I was short and they would not give me the antibiotics that my dog needed until I paid the full amount. They would not take a post-dated check or anything. The receptionist was nasty and treated you like dog poop.Dr. Spencer and Dr. Winwood work with you and tell you in advance what the amounts will be. They have compassion for you and your pet. I can't say enough about them.

Ratings_icons Class Act

Kudos to Richard for actually posting a rebuttal to the 2 negative comments on this site. I have minimal experience w/Jennifer, but she seems nice and knowledgeable, but Richard is just an honest, caring person who happens to be a VMD.Nawark/Bear is not a huge area and I have meet Richard out several times as well as observed his behavior with others, and I frankly can not see how anyone could not like this man. He treats everyone with respect, honesty, and appropriate humor. He was there for me when we had to put Maggie down (Rottie 8yrs, Bone Cancer) and it took years before getting another pet. He always remembered me and my family even during time I was not associated with his practice. Happy to beck there now with my Abby (Chocolate lab). Prices seem high there, but I do not think they are not competitive with this local market. He seems to understand the economy and is agreeable with shopping around if you can get a better deal. Just a class act facility.

Ratings_icons NONE BETTER!!

Michele K.

I've taken my furry kids to White Clay for at least 15+ years. All three of my pets (two dogs and one cat) have lived to about 15 years old thanks to the excellent care provided by doctors Spencer and Winwood. This includes a diabetic cat (Merlin) and a dog with *severe* allergies (Bristol) who we just lost to old age this past Christmas Eve Day. They have seen me through the passings of all three with the utmost professional and caring support. In fact, Doc Spencer was away when we had to make the decision about Bristol, but he took the time to call me one evening when he returned to say how sorry he was for our loss. I would never even consider changing vets so I hope neither of these wonderful docs plan on retiring ....ever! :)

Ratings_icons Always a Great Experience with White Clay Creek Vet

Jeff H.

I would like to thank Dr. Spencer for always taking great care of our pets since 1995. Every time there is a pet emergency it always seems to occur at an inconvenient hour. Dr. Spencer always figures a way to fit us into his busy office hours and meet his patient's medical needs. His follow-up is fantastic and he calls personally to see how his patients are feeling. Finally, he provides great medical care at a fair price. I recommend his office to all of my family and friends. Keep up the great work!

We have been taking our dog to Dr Spencer since she was 6 weeks old in 1994. He has given us the best service and advice and been a partner in providing her with the best quality of life, for her whole life. When the end comes, I know Dr Spencer will be there also. He is the best vet I have ever known or heard of. he has my absolute recomendation.

Ratings_icons Terrible Staff

Ann B.

I adopted a dog from the SPCA and took her to White Clay Creek. The shelter gave me all her papers, including records of her vaccinations. I gave them to the staff at the vets and they made copies. When, we went inside for our appointment the the vet re-vaccinated her (not boosters, they started from scratch). When I asked why, since she had already had all her shots, they told me it was policy. I didn't know any better, so I went along with it. Everytime I took her for a follow-up, they staff was really short with all the clients. The final straw was when my dog needed pain killers after she was spayed. I called the vet and they told me they would check with the doctor and call me back. Hours went by with no call. I asked co-workers and friends for vet referrals and called Middletown Vet Hospital. They were wonderful - prompt and responsive.1 week later, I received a call from White Clay Creek. They wanted to know if I was going to pick up the pain killers for my dog. When I told them I needed it a week ago and no one called me, the woman became very rude and said they had been here for days. Also, when Middletown Vet tried to get my dogs records from White Clay, they said they had no record of them. It's a good thing I brought copies!

Ratings_icons Very disappointed

Sean C.

I have been going to the vet for years now, but have always dealt with Dr. Spencer's partner. The first time I had to deal with Dr. Spencer, he was rude, in a huge rush, did not want to answer my questions, obnoxious, and raised his tone of voice when I asked too many questions. He actually told me he did not want to waste his time answering questions when that is the specialists job. He charged me 50 dollars to tell me something I already knew and walked out of the room while I was in the middle of asking a question. I paid 50 dollars to get the info I found on google, the specialist I found in the yellow pages, and nothing further. I will never go back.

Dr. Spencer and his staff take exceptional care of their patients and family members!! Our pets have been going to Dr. Spencer for over 15 years. He does not take charge you with his high fees for his services and if needed he will refer you to specialist (cardiologist, oncologist, ...) His family (staff and actual family members who work there) have sat with us during the times when we had to put our three dogs to rest and held our hand the entire time through it. He and his staff are compasionate, caring and understanding people! You can't go wrong going here.
