In writing a review I did not want to boast on my personal experiences because there is almost always an emotional attachment to your words. I would rather give a personal observation. To many of us animals become part of the nuclear family and there is nothing we would not do for our family members. Sometimes emotions become entangled in purse strings and resentments are formed and in our minds comparisons are set to human cost. I wanted to look at the reviews as a complete picture to what was being written by others. Sometimes the wisest words come from the minds of the least expected. I have a quote that covers the experience you will receive at Windcrest Animal Hospital. "You can judge a man's true character by the way he treats his fellow animals. a quote by Paul McCartney.
This is the big picture neither the price nor any plan to lure you in...... there is a compassion that people miss when choosing a veterinarian. This compassion goes beyond anything that is imaginable because the people that become DVM's or Techs have a deep love for animals. Furthermore animal medicine is a bit more complicated because the patient cannot speak. Someone must speak for them. This is what I searched for from almost a two hour drive stretching into Maryland and through Delaware. I found very capable Vets for dogs, cats and cattle but none for exotics. Windcrest Animal Hospital is a compassionate well staffed establishment for the service of veterinarian medicines. Compassion goes hand and hand with empathy and the doctors and staff share your loves and loss in the lives of your pets.
Windcrest Animal Hospital was the answer the only place that could take care of my pets. I had been to seven different vets none had the compassion for (particularly in general) my breed of animal. As for office visits the prices are the same in comparison and lower than most. If you have issues with prices I can suggest that you indulge your pet in health insurance through one of the many underwriters available. I did because compassion for my pets is greater than the cost to make them healthy.
The staff is a delight as they make you welcome and the waiting time is very short, by the way coffee and tea is available to you as you wait. Anytime you call your calls are returned within a reasonable length of time, with an answer to your concern. I can call today and have an appointment in the AM no problem. I would further recommend and suggest you take your special pet to Windcrest Animal Hospital all their needs including boarding. My own experiences have been bringing my boys to Dr. Anthony Dallatore who I trust whole heartedly and who has all the traits mentioned in this review. My boys are Rats ..literally real rats.
Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day. It is amazing how much love and laughter they bring into our lives and even how much closer we become with each other because of them.

Do not go to this animal hospital unless you want to be treated so poorly that you feel upset and miserable. This organization provides medical care, but No customer service or care. All they think about is money. It is a pity that their vets are fine but their staffs level is so poor. My cat had a surgery and they delayed surgery without notifying me/owner, did not call me about my cats status in ICU, did not return my calls, if they did, they keep calling to the number that I asked NOT to. As a result, the communication was so delayed that I had worried about my cats status. This happened so many times, I did not get a return call to the correct phone number, that I claimed this to the staff. They said the customer care personnel will call you tomorrow. No body called me. I expressed my complaints in writing three times however no response made. After two months, they finally got back to me, because a customer care personnel accidentally found my fax on the fax machine. She said everything boils down to money when I asked for a simple word of apology about delaying response to my complaints. They kept asking for money without addressing my concerns. It was after three months when I asked to talk with the executive director, who appeared to know nothing about my concerns, emailed me stating she realized there is some delayed communication but the payment is still due in full. I again mapped out all my concerns about their poor customer care in writing and requested to talk with the executive director in person, they refused it saying the director is extremely busy. In the end, I paid what my cat was treated for, which is my intension right from the beginning, however, from the beginning to the end, bitter taste in my mouth, like I was treated very poorly and no voice heard. They do not have any compassion and care to the owner. They think the owner of the pet is just a "payer". NO word of apology to the end. A few weeks after settling my payment, I received an email from the customer care personnel we are sorry for your inconvenience. I guess probably that is their policy not to say anything unless they get full amount of payment. All they think about is money, nothing about caring customers. Makes me wonder if they care about my cats either. So I am not going back to this animal hospital, ever again. I started to take my cats to another animal hospital and I am so happy about what they offer and how they treat me. By the way, windcrest does not even mention "care credit", a payment option to be able to pay back the expenses over 18 months with interest free, which was immediately mentioned and I was able to use at the new animal hospital I started to use. All windcreast wants is cash up front. This animal hospital's compassion and care are way below standard. If you want to feel that way, go ahead and go to them, I wont. Because I want to be treated as valued customer.

Please please please never take your pet here. I have had two exotic animals treated there since there is no one else around the area specializing in small animals. When my recent pet died, they gave us the box she was in and didn't even say sorry for your loss nothing, just the bill. How many times have we brought my pets in, only money they want no one cares about the customer service. I was carrying a cage in by myself they see you are caring it but no one cares to open the door or even simple patient care. It's like your pet is just a number, please take your pet somewhere else to save yourself from this place and their neglect. They will do anything to increase your bill, and no one can even properly diagnose an exotic animal there. For the money they charge you, at least they could have made a card to say i am sorry for your loss or anything, but these aren't people it's a selfish business.

I really do not understand all the bad reviews about this place. I been coming here for a long time since Dr. Gerrick worked as a doctor and now we got Dr. Anthony. He is great with our goldendoodle and did surgery on her twice and help my lab/mix before he died with cancer in his office. If you want the care you got to pay the price that comes with tests, surgery or what ever comes with that's part of a animals life. I save up for my dog no dog insurance here they rip you off. I rather save money for my dogs future because you never know when a emergency or surgery is coming. I really love this vet and grooming they also do a great job on my goldendoodle. The price is high but my dog is worth everything to me when it comes to care.

If you care about your pet you will NEVER bring it to Windcrest. I have met someone who works there that has said because she likes my dogs to not bring them to where she works for they will be neglected and charge you extra for the nice long walks that your dog will never get. Before hearing this, I did take my dogs to Windcrest for checkups but the $$$ was a lot and was complete crap. I have pit bulls and understand the bad rep they have been given but honestly my dogs are the biggest babies in the world. Because they are pits however, Windcrest muzzles them but don't bother messing with the poodle who's barking and goig nuts next to me. Windcrest has also misdiagnosed my parents dogs and other friends dogs that I know just for $$. They wanted to do "experimental surgery" on a golden retriever for cancer but after brought to another vet...the golden is healthy :-) Windcrest, please stop what you are doing and love animals over hurting them. I understand you prob see the worst with dogs and prob pit bulls as well but remember its not the dog, it the owner. Overall review, Windcrest will NEVER see my dogs again. Worst service, stereotypical, over priced and when I went there for an emergency for my youngest pit bull they could have cared less. If you want a vet who loves animals more then anything and won't charge you out the ass..DR. James Beach at walnut hill vet is amazing!

Took my cat there for an urinary tract infection. I was told that it would be several thousand dollars to save him and I was under the impression he required surgery.

Three days later I examined the bill to find that they basicaly gave him IV's, pain meds, and antibiotics for three days. The cost was just shy of $1600 and they wouldn't start working on him until I wrote a check for $1000. They gave me an estimate with a low ball figure of around $1050, and a high figure of around $1250. They told me that it would most likely be the lower number. I didn't even get to see my cat untill I paid in full.

I have to agree with the other negative reviews because they mirror my experience. I would never, ever take a pet there unless there was absolutely no alternative.

Vets and techs alike have "drunk the kool aid" of the Windcrest group's policy/directive to run up the bill regardless of discomfort to pet and hardship to owner. Docs may be good but have no moral or ethical concern for patients or owners thanks to the Windcrest group's greed. They want to run up the bill and sell, sell, sell. They have no concern about the pain and discomfort they cause the animals by doing unnecessary testing, etc in order to pad the bill and run up the cost of services to the max.

Further, Windcrest will attempt to slip in add-on items ie food suppliments, pre-pay stool samples, special shampoo, dental care kits and the like. and you have paid for items and taken them home before you know what happened. Rather than ask and discuss, they "presume the sale" and stick things into your bag with the minimum amount of discussion lest you say you don't want/need the items. If the vet talks about it, they assume you want it and if you don't say no or question further - well, it's yours .

You are concerned about your animal and thinking about that and they are busy running up the tab.

I will NEVER use any of their facilities again. Vets and techs try to up sell on all visits. Making a profit is fine. Greed at the expense of my pet is not.

I called to make an appointment for my aging cat, and when I got into the hospital was told my appointment was made at another location. It was a Saturday, and I'm new to the area. I had explained that Friday him urinating outside the litter box and licking himself frequently. He seemed uncomfortable. The young girl on the phone must have put me on hold seven times and each time she came back on with some additional bit of information for me about either the importance of being seen, or the price (of which I never asked for) when I plainly explained I wanted to be seen the following day.
I was told when I arrived for the appointment that I could be seen as an emergency, and it would cost double! Plus when I asked if the supplies and tests were more expensive, like in a real emergency room, they tried to explained to me that "Well, this is a real emergency room." I've never gone to my doctor for being sick and had them charge me emergency room fees.
I took my cat to another hospital, I am happy and my cat, Rufus is happy and healthy and had a blockage for which he may have died. Windcrest cares about money and is a bait and switch establishment. If they truly cared about my sick cat, and knew the importance of him being seen right away, they would have honored the appointment that the gentleman at the front desk was kind enough to explain to me was made by a new person. If they run their business like they treat their clients, I see why there are new people to have to train.

Dr. Dallatore is a wonderful vet, very caring and calming to our dogs who love him. Before our oldest dog died Dr. Anthony took the time to look at his eyes in spite of knowing that he would probably need to be euthanized. We still take our other 2 dogs to him and only him. He takes the time to explain whatever needs to be done. I can't recommend him highly enough. It's just too bad that he works at such a mercenary company.

This corporate merchant may not be the caring, ethical Vet, but a money making machine. -this is my personal opinion formed from from a recent experience.
Imagine- A Pet owner with a sick cat went to Windcrest to buy antibiotics. They immediately confiscated his Pet and held it hostage, telling the owner he had to give them $1500. dollars or they "ethically" would not release the cat to him, although no work had been performed. They wanted a large sum of Money and, for over an hour, they insisted they would not treat or release the cat until they got it. Finally, they agreed to release the cat for ONLY $500. dollars, but just as they got "their" money, it was returned in a box, DEAD! Their "ethical" care was for the Money!
This corporate merchant makes every pretense of being a "hospital" and Pet owners are bullied over their heads into debt over "necessary"(?) super tests. The owners are not treated with any compassion for their budget, because of this merchant's greed!

After calling around to several animal hospitals in the state to see who had a vet to care for a very sick guinea pig, Windcrest was the only one who said they could provide. After waiting approx. 45 min we were finally able to see the vet who suggested $1,200 in xrays, blood draws, overnight care, etc despite offering no definitive diagnosis. After questioning the vet, she says "I am not an exotics specialist." I came to Windcrest specifically because they were the only vet who claimed they had a doctor present who specialized in exotic mammals. I walked out after paying 220 for visit, antibiotics, and NO diagnosis. Needless to say, I will not be taking my guinea pig back to such con artists.

Windcrest Animal Hospital is the worst kind of facility. They claim that they are fit to care for small animal patients such as rabbits, etc., when truly they only have one doctor fit for these types of patients. When you have a small animal with an emergency situation and you ask them if they have a doctor there they say they do even if they don't. They seem to think that a doctor with no experience with small animals can just call the doctor with experience and that it will suffice. Also, instead of recommending you to somewhere else, these money-hungry doctors make you feel like your pet is okay. Needless to say, I made the mistAke of taking a sick rabbit to them and their ignorance and selfishness contributed to her death. If you have a rabbit: BEWARE!!! I will NEVER take my animals there again!

I have been a client at Windcrest for about 10 years now. I cannot say enough about how wonderful they are. My latest experience was with my 6 yr old kitty, Alexander. Alex had recurring issues with urinary blockages throughout his life. I did everything, all the correct medications and diets, and he would still block. After talking to the Dr's at Windcrest, I decided to have the Perineal Urethrostemy surgery done on my boy to help him with his problem. He made it through the surgery just fine, however, during recovery, it was discovered that he was having difficulty breathing and that his lungs were filled with fluid. The ICU Dr called me immediately to explain the situation. I was devastated, of course. She was wonderful and explained, in detail, what they were trying to do to save my boy, Alex. They did an ultrasound of his heart and confirmed an underlying heart disease (Hypertrophic Cardio Myopathy) which is undetectable in a normal radiograph or blood work which is done prior to surgery. Long story short, my boy was hospitalized for a week while undergoing lasix treatments to dry out his lungs. The staff was so wonderful to me. They allowed me to visit him whenever I wanted and for as long as I wanted. Unfortunately, his body was not responding to the treatments and I had to make the very tough decision to let him go. They did everything they could possibly have done to save my boy, at my request. The Dr that assisted me throughout the entire week was compassionate, caring and very concerned for my feelings as well. She was so awesome! They all are fantastic and I will only take my pets to Windcrestt! This all happened the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I am still grieving for my boy, but I know he received the best possible care at Windcrest! Also, every year, they hold a beautiful Tree Lighting Memorial Ceremony for all pets who passed during that year. I attended for my boy and it was the most beautiful experience to see how caring my veterinarians and their staff are. THANK YOU WINDCREST!!!

I've only been to Windcrest a few times in my past, but outside of their outrageous charges, found them to be very compassionate and caring when it came to my cat Ryan and me. I adopted him from Windcrest, and had a great experience in the adoption process. Out of 7 cats I've raised, he is the best cat I've ever had!

Ryan was declawed there by laser (at my request) and he never had problems or complications. His recovery was quick and easy. One time I accidentally gave him a med I was taking at the time by accident instead of his own (mine looked exactly like his) and when I rushed him to emergency there, they took care of him very well. The lady vet was very compassionate with me and comforting. It left me with a lasting and warm impression. I didn't get the impression that Ryan was abused in any way during his emergency care and his recovery was excellent.

The only negative I've experienced was asking what they would charge to clean his teeth. The tech came back to my exam room with a $1000 estimate (just to clean his teeth) and claimed that 2 teeth might need pulling. I took Ryan back to my regular vet, and they cleaned his teeth for approximately $140.00 plus didn't have to pull any teeth. I'm assuming they wanted to pull teeth to raise the cost of the whole procedure? Otherwise, the care he received at Windcrest was fine, but unless you are financially well off, look elsewhere. Make sure to get a second opinion at another hospital first before your pets get expensive treatments there.

I had my older cat at the Banfield Hospital Brandywine because he was drinking more, not that active etc. - they found out after taking xrays that he had a luxating patellar (kneecap out of place) and they scheduled me (without asking) for surgery for about $2000 - $2500. They didn't take blood etc. He got worse, was almost all day sleeping and just not himself. He lost rapidly muscle mass in just a couple of days and his belly was extended. I called Windcrest and got an appointment the same day. Unfortunately my cat had to put down. After the appropriate tests (bloodwork, belly-tab etc) we found out that he had a pancreatitis and the inflamation caused an internal abszess and erruppted into his belly and infected all other organs - no help for him at this point.
From the point I entered the clinic we where treated with the most respect and dignity and even they never met us, put him down made even the vet and the tech cry.
They also take care of you after you had to put an animal down. I got phone calls from the vet and tech, I called in several times with questions etc. - Thank you !
This is also my new vet now for my 14 year old dog.
