I am a single father that was taken to barber shop as a kid and I always had my hair cut with my father, it was special. I witnessed things at kids kuts that that changed me. I came in late one day with my son and I ways told I would be last cut of the day, even though I was passed the sign in time. A mini van pulled in front of the store. It was filled with mentaly challenged children. I wateched these children with thier issues. I helped the stylist by sweeping the floor. I wished I could have done more. I left kids kuts that day thinking , WOW!!!! The stylist go over and above.

strange reading the reviews. My oldest son is 15. We started going there when he was about 3. My other boys are younger so we still go. Sometimes we get a not-so-great cut, most of the time it is fine. My older son goes to a salon (trims for that long-hair messy boy cut, lol) and we pay a fortune. You get what you pay for - $14 is not a lot of money for a 'decent' cut, if you expect more, go somewhere else. As far as the stylists talking to them, maybe it is because you are standing over their shoulder? I stood back away when my kids were little, as they got older (4 or so) I sit way back. No matter where I stand, though, the girls have always talked to my boys. They might not talk their ear off, but sorry, my kids would rather not sit there and have a deep conversation with someone they barely know anyway. They like watching the tv and the girls will ask them a few questions about school or something, that is plenty enough conversation for a ten minute cut! Some on here act like you are taking your kid to a carnival - hope your kids aren't shocked when they have to live in the real world when some things, like getting a haircut, is not some major fun filled event, it's just a haircut in a kid friendly environment!

I took my daughter here for a haircut during the week of 3/8/2010. A few observations:

1) The floor was filthy with hair. Not just from the kids JUST before but from 4-5 other kids before. It does not appear as if they sweep up between EVERY cut, as any decent salon would do and my daughter slipped on a bit of it, luckily she didn't fall.
2) Very little is done to establish any sort of conversation with the child. Simple, stern direction seemed to be the extent of the conversation. While I understand that simple stern direction is one route to go when working with children, it would be a more meaningful experience for the child if the employee would first introduce herself, explain what she is going to be doing, that she will need to give simple directions for her safety as she cuts, and be warm and loving about it.
3) My daughter needed nearly a foot of length taken off, and we were both nervous about how it would look, so we looked through the ONLY book they had of haircuts, that had a girl on a cover (there was another for boys). The book appeared to be old and was beat-up a bit (binding torn). More selection in the books for parents to pick a good cut is recommended.

In the end, we got a cut, it was quick, and my daughter did like it, but when we left my daughter told me that she didn't like the lady that gave the cut "She didn't seem very nice" and I have to agree.

If you're in a hurry, and just want a sit down, shutup, and get your hair cut on a colorful animal "experience" this is the place.

If you want your child to have a good time in the process, look elsewhere.

I can only comment on my own experience here and so far I have taken my daughter here 3 times and each time the service was quick and efficient. Which is really all I ask of any hairstylist. I personally prefer less friendly and more attentive so I ensure that my daughters eyes, ears and other appendages are spared, however I do not have a daughter that is particularly frightened- just squirmy. I am sure it must take a lot to be around "active" kids all day with sharp implements in your hand- I would be a nervous wreck- hence I don't do it myself :-) I hope this helps...

I have been taking my kid to this salon since 2006. I have mostly had a good experience, except for when Donna was the stylist.yes, I agree, her tolerance is quite low. Her temperament is not suitable for a salon meant esp for kids!! She should know what to expect when working with lil kids. And yes, Hallie is nice . My sons response says it all. He is calmer when Hallie cuts his hair and he was agitated and almost angry when Donna cut his hair.Yes, everyone has feelings and good and bad days. But , there is something called professionalism. which means, keep your bad days and feelings to yourself and provide a good service for which people came there in the first place.

I just read all of the reviews and I have three things to say. 1) Those who wrote scathing reviews need to calm down a bit. 2) The chick defending everyone at Kids Kuts needs to calm down too. 3) Ive taken my kids there, and yes it is a very stressful environment. However, I dont give a dam if youre having a bad day or not, this is a service industry and you have no right ot take out your personal bullsh*t on customers. Now, parents who do NOTHING to control their kids, are at fault as well. Ive seen you idiots many many times just standing there as your kid screams at these poor people. Everyone has some of the blame, so shut up and quit b*tching..

I take my 2 year old daughter to kids kuts and i love it. My daughters hair dresser Dona who is shown in the picture is such a wonderful person. She is so friendly and loves my daughter. I know for a fact that she has two grown children and grandchildren. I do not appreciate the rude comments that is posted about her. Everyone has a bad day and you can not view a person on one day. I would love to know who the person (people) is that is posting her picture on the Internet and who says horrible things about her. She is a person to and has feelings. I am sure that everyone in your job loves you and I'm sure that the people who are not fond of you do not write nasty remarks about you on the Internet. i would greatly appreciate if you would stop!!! Thank you Dona for all you do i know you have a hard job and you can get stressed out sometimes. I have never seen Dona take her frustrations out on a child.

We have been to Kids Kuts several times. Luckily, we didn't get the stylist in the photo (and the subject of all the bad reviews) the first time around. I, like many other parents wanted the first time to go smoothly and to be an all-around great experience. So, we went to Kids Kuts...it was great! The third time my boys needed a trim was when we got her. The cut was good and quick (about 4-5 minutes), but she didn't speak to us at all and literally shoved his head back and forth while she worked. Fortunately, my little guy was so engrossed in the cartoons, he didn't seem to mind. Whenever we go back I'm always sure to avoid her. I've also had a good experience at the Kirkwood Hwy Kids Kuts. My guys love the toys and other kids, so all-in-all I would definitely recommend them.

My son had a truly horrible experience at the Glasgow Kids Kuts. The stylist did not speak a word to him, shoved his head back and forth in a very rough manner, spent no more than 3 or 4 minutes tops on his cut, and was extremely unfriendly in every way. My son is two years old and I explained to her that he was a bit afraid to have this done. I expected this place to employ kid-friendly individuals. I was truly shocked at the way she treated my son. The only reason that I give this place one star is due to the fact that he enjoyed playing with the toys and the other kids. Also, for what it is worth, there was another stylist there with brown hair--I think her name was Hallie--who seemed very nice. I strongly recommend that if you go to this place, you insist on seeing Hallie. Our stylist was a middle-aged woman with dirty blonde hair--do not let her near your child, especially if your child is young and somewhat scared. My husband overheard our stylist say to her co-worker "...and then I have to come here and do this all day". What really bothers me about this place is that my husband and I drove from Dover to Glasgow (45 minutes) and paid two dollars in tolls just to give my son the best experience possible. Brenda t.--I think we had the same woman! I'm sorry that I disregarded your review--I did so because it was the only bad review there! Check out the photo that I uploaded--it tells the whole story.

I took my daughter to the Kids Kuts on Concord Pike when she was just over a year old. This was her first haircut and I expected her to cry. Of course, she cried because the hairdresser (who admitted she was new) sprayed her in the face with cold water instead of spraying the comb. No big deal, though. We moved to the Newark area and started going to the Glasgow Kids Kuts. I really like it there. I would suggest to Brenda T. to try going again. You must have had a terrible experience not to mention a hairdresser who was apparently having a bad day and took it out on you and your girls. The only complaint I have is the cost of a bang trim. Of course, that has nothing to do with the great staff I've dealt with. If you have this kind of experience, talk to the manager. They don't put up with that type of attitude and will deal with the employee. Hope you have a better experience next time.

My kids love Kids Kuts. My son will not go anywhere else as he has a favorite hairstylist there who knows just how he likes his hair. He says she is his hair dresser. Also recently my daughter cut her hair and it looked bad. I took her there and the stylist worked wonders so that you could not even tell she had cut her own hair.

Its definitely kid centered, with lots of toys for them to play with while waiting, a tv with children's videos to watch while getting their hair cut, cute animals they can "ride" while getting their hair cut and even a kid friendly spot to get their hair washed. They also have kids hairstyle books in the waiting area so you can check out styles if you aren't sure what you want for your child.

When the kids are done, they have candy or lollipops from which the kids can choose a treat.

I work at kids Kuts in Glasgow and I cant believe that when I read the horrible story about the shop. It is the best place I have ever worked and we LOVE the children. Personally, whether I worked there or not that would be the place I would go to get my childrens haircut. You know it's a good shop for kids when alot of the kids cry because they have to leave not because they have to get their haircuts. We have so many distractions and toys that the children love it. I don't ever remember one child that I havent talked to. I love the kids and it kills me that someone would say that we didnt treat their kids good. I didnt work there over the summer, but i'm sorry that someone wasnt happy.

The only thing kid friendly about this place was the chairs they sat in. I had both my daughters' hair cut here (ages 2 and 3) and not once did either stylist say ONE WORD to my children. Both of my girls sat very still and were not even praised by the stylist or offered a treat when done (grandmom found them and offered them each one). The stylists did not engage in any type of conversation with either the child or parent (except to ask what we wanted done: trim). I specifically chose a Kids Kuts for my childrens first hair cut experience because I thought they would really cater to kids. We even drove quite a distance to try this salon. For the price ($14 each) and the lack of "kid friendliness" I would've been better off going to a regular salon (Hair Cuttery) or barber! I was EXTREMELY disappointed and plan on filing a complaint with the franchise.

PROS: None
CONS: Unfriendly, expensive, not child oriented except for the chairs they sit in

I have gone here to kids kuts several times with my daughter. Of course, they only do hair cuts for kids as the name does say. This is a pretty good place to take your children for haircuts. They are not really hair stylists, but more like a barber shop for kids. What I mean is they don't really do perms, straightening, or styles as much as they simply cut hair. But they are good with working with children which is very good. As you might know, some places like barber shops do not really like cutting kids hair, because they can be quite naughty while they are supposed to be sitting still. But they are good at keeping kids attention for long enough to get the hair cut done. So I would recommend taking your kids here to get their hair done. The people here have always been friendly to me and my daughter, who is 7.
