I had seen this place before but never thought much of it just because it seems like it's so small from the outside, nothing special. Alas, I was wrong! :}
A few weeks ago my boyfriend took me here for sushi and I was oh so pleasantly

This is my first review, and will most likely be my only. My love for Yokohama's pushed me to express it, and thusly I've ended up here.

I've been going to Yokohama's for years. The employees there are so sweet and personable. When I started dating a boyfriend whose favorite place to eat dinner was Taco Bell (strictly for the pricing), my beloved expeditions to Yokohama's dwindled to special occasions. However, a few weeks ago we headed over to eat dinner to celebrate our six-month anniversary, after not having been there in a few months at least, one of the employees, who was not waiting on our table, stopped by to say, "Hi!" and that my hair looks good short. I couldn't believe that she still remembered me and felt strongly enough to stop by and chat! Amazing, amazing service.

But it doesn't end there. The food is amazing. I'm vegetarian, so good food is something I don't often get to enjoy at restaurants. Yokohama's vegetarian selections, though not expansive or numerable, are absolutely delicious and leave me feeling full, though not weighted down. I order the agedashi tofu and request an off-the-menu vegetable roll that never, ever fails to let me down. Eating dinner, I close my eyes and smile as I chew, worrying not how silly I may look.

I finish off with the delicious and incomparable green tea ice cream and pay my bill at the counter on which an old music box sits, playing traditional japanese music.

This place is a must-eat for anyone in the Tampa area who likes japanese food or culture.

Might I add that seating is ALWAYS immediate, and that there is plenty of space between tables. It's amazingly almost never crowded. In my years, I've only been one time where I would have described it as crowded, and there were still open tables. A pity, really...

I compare food from Tampa to home in NY and never find any comparisons. But Yokohama's sushi, authenticity in decor and service is overall why I would recommend dining here to anyone who loves sushi or trying it for the first time. The staff is super-friendly and I love it there!!

There's something enchanting about Yokohama Japanese restaurant, located at the corner of Kings Avenue and Lumsden. Despite it's unfortunate strip mall location, the owners have covered the windows and doors with Sogi (?) screens (rice paper and wood) to obscure the outside.

Once inside, the atmosphere is so endearing. Traditional Japanese music sets the tone as a sushi master prepares boats full of delectables nearby. Their menu items are all very good--we've tried them all! If you're a sushi lover, theirs is some of the freshest around...and such a great selection!

But no meal would be complete without some green tea or red bean ice cream. No, they're not like American ice cream, but if you're feeling adventurous, give them a try! They're very tasty, just a bit more subtle (very little sugar, if any). While you're at it, why not get a cup of green tea to go with your green tea ice cream? What a hot and cool way to finish off that meal!

Yokohama is priced comparably with other Japanese restaurants in the area, so be prepared to pay $10-15 per person (or more, if you're a big sushi eater!)

Miso soup is very tasty. The salad is also quite tasty.

Forks and knives are available upon request. But, if you're a chopstick purist, this is the place for you.

Cleanliness is high on the list, as it is with most Japanese restaurants. You'll receive a moist towel on arrival (although no longer steamed, which is SUCH a bummer). And, you'll get a surprise--a tiny appetizer treat when you arrive.

Best of all, it's rarely crowded, even on the weekend. But after this glowing review, who knows?

PROS: Great food. Quiet atmosphere. Relaxing.

Yokohama's is our absolute favorite restaurant. The food is authentic Japanese food. We have gone to many different Japanese restaurants in the area and this one is superior to all of them. They have a variety of sushi rolls and other foods on their menu. After I have a meal there I don't feel so overstuffed and feel I ate a healthy meal. It's a real small restaurant and the owner is super friendly and very personable- I invited her to my wedding! If you love sushi (cooked or raw) then this place is the best choice- you won't be disappointed!

PROS: THe best sushi ever!
CONS: Nothing

I've tried many sushi restaurants around the Bay area, and Yokohama is the absolute best in my opinion. No one can beat the atmosphere, the staff is extremely friendly, and the sashimi and sushi rolls are always fresh and delicious - we love it!
