I wanted to buy a 2008 Dodge Durango Limited from DeLand Dodge because it was fairly priced & I needed it ASAP (My only car broke down and I have 6 kids). I applied with them (over the phone) and got approved for a loan of about $13000. I was going to pay the balance in cash. The problem is that they kept changing the details of the loan & bringing up the price of the car with bogus fees that included a $3,600 bank fee and a $699 dealer fee, on top of a whole bunch of other fees which made the car over $23k. After 2 days of trying to get them to, at least, lower their fees, they agreed to lower the bank fee to $1000 and their dealer
fee to $399 (aren't they generous?). After getting a cashier's check from my bank, they changed the numbers on me all over again and I had to get cash on top of the cashier's check to add on to the down payment. When I finally got all of the numbers sorted out, I got a friend to give me a ride down to DeLand from Orlando, to sign the paperwork and pick-up the car.

Once there, everything was going fine until I saw a clause for a pre-payment penalty. I told the finance manager, George, that I did not agree to pay a pre-payment penalty. He said that it was just written there because the paperwork was old and that I would not get charged a pre-payment penalty because it is against the law in the state of Florida. I asked him to please take it off or cross it off of the contract and he said that it was against the law for him to do that. I told him that if I signed that loan document I will be charged the pre-payment penalty fee because I am agreeing to it and he kept trying to convince me otherwise. I told him that I couldn't sign that because on top of the 18.5 % interest rate, the $1000 fee, the $699 dealer fees, and all of the other smaller fees, I was NOT willing to pay a pre-payment penalty for paying my loan off early, which is what I plan to do.

He then told me that it was not like I would be able to pay the loan off early so why would I even be worried about the penalty. I couldn't believe that! I told him that just because I have bad credit it does not mean that I cannot afford to pay my loan off early. I was putting down $7,850 in cash, so why did he even have to try to offend me with that comment? I got upset and got up to leave and he followed me telling me that if I left, the deal was off and that it was only good for that day. I was so angry. I had gotten a friend to drive me there and he wasted my time and hers. Then he had the audacity to get rude with me. Mind you, he is the
one who lied about the law and tried to get me to sign a contract under false pretenses, and
he was getting mad at me? Anyway, I left! I don't need a car so bad that I need to get cheated, insulted, & belittled just to get it.

And forget about contacting the general sales manager, John. When I called him the next day and told him that I spoke to an attorney who told me that if I had signed that document I would have been liable for the pre-payment penalty, he told me that the attorney I spoke to was wrong and that the only reason why their loan documents say that they have a pre-payment penalty is because when the law changed in Florida, they were unable to update the documents because it would be too costly. What a Joke! A huge dealership cannot afford to update their paperwork? Give me a break! Then I told him that I was very unhappy with the
way that I was treated during the whole ordeal and that it was not right for them to try to cheat me that way, and insult me on top of it all. He told me that it was not illegal to treat people like crap (except he used the S word which I cannot use here). Exactly like that! I couldn't believe it.

These people do not deserve my business or any one else's for that matter. Sure, they may seem to have some good prices, but after they are through adding all of their fees, you will be paying thousands over retail and feeling like an idiot! I want to give my business to someone who actually cares about their customers and treats me as I should be treated.

A car purchase is no small purchase and it should not be taken lightly. Dealers are already making a big profit off of the price of the car, why do they need to cheat you with bogus dealer fees and
bank fees, and on top of that a pre-payment penalty fee? It's just NOT right!

Say NO to DeLand Dodge!!!! They are Vulchers!!!!

We had our Dodge truck here recently for repairs and it was taken care of quickly and efficiently. The service personnel were friendly and helpful in explaining what repairs were needed.

I've had good experiences with the service depart here. We bought a Jeep from them, but that was quite a while ago. They were able to get our Dodge truck in right away and was able to get it repaired quickly. Their prices are competitive.
