Having shopped around, I have come to the conclusion that most of the furniture in Matter Bros is just a higher priced version of the version I have seen in all of the other stores. As far as I could see most of their furniture (wood and leather) all comes from China. The sales lady was very nice, yet I was looking for a quality sofa, not junk. It may be that you cannot buy a good leather sofa anymore, yet I will continue to look. I will not but a cut and sewn sofa as I saw at Matter Bros. That is when the leather patterns are made in China then brought to the states as one of the other salesman told me. I loved the saleslady Sandy, but i could not buy anything made in China. If anyone reads this and knows where I can go to buy a reasonably priced leather sofa (no more than $5,000 please blog on this site to let me know where) I would apprciate it.

I was looking for a particular style sofa, chair and ottoman and although several of the big national chain stores had what I was looking for, I decided to make my purchase at Matter Brothers (Pinellas Park, FL) because I thought I would get better quality and service from a hometown, family-run business. HA! Boy, was I wrong!

Let me just say right up front that my husband and I are NOT hard on our furniture. We have pieces of furniture that are in excellent condition, even after 20/30+ years of use. In fact, we have a bedroom set that is 42 years old and there is barely a scratch on it! However, within 3 months of the Matter Brothers purchase, I had serious problems with the furniture I paid them more than $2,000 for. The saleswoman referred me to owner, John Matter. He supposedly checked with the furniture manufacturer about the problem but reportedly they wouldn't do anything so Matter blew me off and said there was nothing more he could do.

Now at that point, I tried to file a dispute with my credit card company for defective merchandise but unfortunately, I paid the credit card balance right away (before the problem occurred) so I learned that wasn't an option and I had no other recourse against Matter Brothers. (Live and learn.) I expected to keep this furniture for a long time so every time I look at my *new* defective furniture and realize I'm stuck with it, it makes me sick...and really mad.

Buyer beware! Matter Brothers' customer service is NON-EXISTENT and they DO NOT stand behind what they sell.

this is our favorite furniture store. we would love to shop at horchow and robb and stucky's but can't afford to. the really cheap furniture stores sell stuff that looks like it's already falling apart in the store. here, we always find something interesting and stylish at a price we can afford, and the quality is decent. 5 years ago we furnished our living room with a leather sofa and chairs and an aspen lift table and we still love it. have picked up other great peices at floor sample sales too.
the 'coastal living' line is especially nice. i would recommend this store.

When we first shopped at Matter Brothers the experience was great. The sales person was very helpful and their knowledge about decorating was also helpful to us. But then things changed when we had to return the sofa we purchased. Returning the sofa was easy and the sales person took care of the return quickly.BUT It has now been 9 days since the return and our money has not been returned. I was told Mr. Matter (0ne) was on vacation for two weeks and the other Mr. Matter had the invoice on his desk but hadn't had time to get to it. Excuse me, but you were fast to take our money, but slow in returning it, we are still waiting. We will not be shopping there anymore. So, make sure customers that you get your understanding when you buy something from them. Their sales people are nice, but the ownership sucks!! I hope Mr. Matter (two) reads this and decides to return our money. PS. I hope the two rugs we are waiting on do not have to be returned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased a Stanley bedroom suite from Matter Brothers. My sister bought another set. We like shopping there because the sales staff is friendly, knowledgable and not pushy. The furniture they carry is above average quality. shopping around, I have also found their prices to be very fair.

I bought a leather sectional(Natuzzi) which is beautiful. then I went back and bought a ottoman to match the sectional. I then went back and bought a sofa bed. Everything was exceptional, and the prices well worth it. The salesman, Jim was fantastic. I would not hesitate to make another purchase there.

yes we came in a week ago my wife and i we looked at a sofa {leather recliner} the sales lady{heather} could not help us i wanted to know the vailable of this sofa heather said it would be 6-9 mouths didnt even look it up tried to sell me a sofa she liked in stead because a sale rep. gave her a demo on that sofa and she like it today we came back talked to a sales lady called shelly she said the sofa was in the warehouse and we could have it within days . now iwanted to add a matching chair after a long discussion i tried to get a discount in short these poeple dont seem very hungry they dont want to go out of there way much for you why do you have to fight with these people just to get a answer

I want to thank John Matter for agreeing to honor the sale price for the Stanley dining room set (see post from May). I wasn't contacted by anyone at the store, but I did see his post and appreciate that he allowed us to purchase the set at the sale price from back in April. And, when the dining table was damaged during delivery, it was replaced without any problems. Although it took several months to get the pricing worked out, it was worth the wait. I am very pleased with the dining room set and will return to Matter Brothers for future purchases.

Several weeks ago my husband and I saw the Matter Brothers sale advertised in the paper. We found a dining room set that was a floor model and we were interested in purchasing it. However, John Matter informed us that we would have to pay to have it delivered and if we wanted to have the surface scratches buffed out, it would be at our expense. Since this was not an inexpensive set, I did some research to determine what the costs involved would be to have the set delivered from Pinellas Park to Tampa and I contacted the manufacturer to obtain the name of someone who would be able to buff out the scratches. In the meantime, the sales person called to see if we were still interested in purchasing the set. I told her I was working out the details and when she called me last Tuesday, I explained that I lived and worked in Tampa and could not get there by 6:00 p.m. when the store closed, but would be there on Thursday during lunchtime to make the purchase. The next afternoon the sales person called me to say Mr. Matter decided not to sell me the set at the sales price and he had removed the sale ticket. I asked her if she had told Mr. Matter that I was coming the next day to buy the dining room set and his response was, "She should have bought it when she saw it." Needless to say, I was shocked and disappointed at this response and still cannot believe that the owner would "change" his mind when a customer was ready to make a purchase. A friend who recently had dealings with Matter Brothers told me not to purchase furniture from them and now I know why. So, my recommendation to any potential buyer is: Do not go to Matter Brothers!!

... This Dining Set was going to be discontinued by us and had a Floor Sample Sale price on it. After returning from the April High Point Furniture market, we decided to continue offering this item so the Floor Sample price was removed and no longer offered for sale from our showroom. My wife purchased a Natuzzi Furniture/Recliner Set from Florida Leather Gallery that was made for someone her size. She is 4'11" tall and I am 5,10". The set was beautiful but I could not rest my head and watch TV. the head support was built for her. So, I went to the showroom to talk with the Store Manager about the set He sold her. I got off to a rough Start with the Store Manager. He scored low marks because he didn't listen to the problem without becoming cold and defensive. He had no solutions and offered no solutions other than the suggestions I provided him. Even then, He was suppose to call me back Friday, same day, and didn??t. I felt if my wife had made a big mistake going with this company. I took a step back and made a phone call to John Matter, Owner of Matter Brothers DBA Florida Leather Gallery. I only told him the story once. With no question, he called the Store Manager and worked it out for me. The Store Manager treated me better than previously and gave me an exchange credit. Not 100% happy with new furniture price. He would not negotiate the sales price on the exchange set. I priced three different sets from the tag price to the quoted sales price. They ranged form 23 % to 40% profit margin. Based on my original purchase, the Tag price $2175.00 divided by the sales price $1520.00 divided back into Tag Price$2175. That was 30% difference between tag price and Quoted Price. Then he "taxed me? on the other another set that will take 14 to 16 weeks to receive. He added another 6.5 % profit and delivery charge to furniture price. This means a couple hundred dollars on top of the original profit. No way to know the other variable, Manufacturing Cost. So I didn??t walk away unscathed but I was happy the owner interceded in exchange. I will let everyone know if I receive the furniture 14 to 16 weeks like told. It would make the overall Experience a C+.

Clarification We run different sales events and the % discount can vary by the event as well as incentives offered by manufacturers. The original order was purchased from our inventory. We usually pay less for products we stock and in stock items usually can be offered at a slightly larger discount. The re-selection was not a stocked item so that may explain why their may have been a larger percentage discount on the original purchase. I am unclear about the 6.5%. That would be sales tax. Not additional profit. When we exchange an item, we give a full sales tax credit on the amount returned and we charge the full sales tax amount on the new purchase. I have looked at the account and that is what happened. We do charge delivery on the additional deliveries that are not a result of damage or a defect. As of today Natuzzi's expected finished procuction date is 7/12. It then takes about 5 weeks overseas transit. The delivery appears to be on schedule. Our additional expense, or reduction in profit on this order is at least $150 due to additional delivery, pick up and handling costs. That is fine with me IF we have a happy customer!

The facts as I know them I apoligize for not returning your call. I do not believe I recieved the message. I can only assume it was given directly to our service manager as that is how we initiate a Service Request. Natuzzi has a contract with a Service Tech who handles all of their service issues. He is intimately familier with the construction of their furniture. It is the opinion of the Service Tech that the cause of the "Tear" in the inside back of the top of the cusion was due to someone pulling on the cushion to move the sofa. I have seen the photos and I agree with him. Leather is very difficult to tear and it would be virtually impossible to tear in that area with normal use. The Natuzzi warrantee covers only parts after the 1st year. They have not denied the claim as of today. It appears that they are sending the appropriate parts to repair. I am proud to sell Natuzzi and sell thousands of their product a year with lower service rate than most of our other manufacturers. I am sorry you are disappointed with our company. It appears that the issue will be resolved.

They have to deal with problems in your driveway or make another delivery. We are by no means perfect. But, are intentions are to have a successful delivery. We select our Vendors based on there reputation and ability to provide us with an excellent value and excellent service. I made many orders at Matter brothers. People were nice until you made a purchase then all your help will disappear as fast as your hard earned money did. I was promised calls numerous times,yet never received them. I have had things on order past the due date yet no-one will tell me when it is coming in. Waiting to see how they handle or exchanging items that they were going to pick up when they made my delivery. I will write another review and let you know if they lived up to their word..

I made many orders at Matter brothers. People were nice until you made a purchase then all your help will disappear as fast as your hard earned money did. We purchased two china closets and a server. When the items were delivered, the marble top was cracked, and the doors on one of the china closets were uneven. We financed the purchases, and we risk paying huge finance charges if we do not continue to pay for these as yet unusable pieces. I asked the PERSON IN CHARGE OF SERVICE for an "accommodation". I was dismissively told, (exact quote)"Most of specially order pieces come through needing repairs. We cannot make accommodations for all of those customers." These pieces were extremely expensive, and I only wish that they would take them back. AVOID THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU THINK THIS REACTION TO OUR DIFFICULTIES IS APPROPRIATE.

I was in the Pinellas Park store on Wednesday, January 21st and was treated very rudely by a salesperson named Chris. When I commented that one of the lines they carried was also carried by Rooms 2 Go, Kanes, and Beall's, he was very offended, and told me to to down the street to Rooms 2 Go. Then, he just walked away from me, and found another customer. As I was interested in a piece of furniture they had on the floor, I had to find another salesperson to help me. But, after considering the way I was treated, I will never step foot in that store again.

We looked at all of the leather and contemporary furniture stores in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Sarasota area to find a couch that would work for us in our kitchen-family room. We finally found a style that would work in a sectional,not a couch at Matter Bros in Pinellas Park. The actual couch that we ordered was just what we wanted and the color choice on the finished product matched the color swatch that we chose in the showroom. The couch is excellent quality and was delivered in the time frame specified. We took delivery of the couch in May 08 and it still looks perfect and is very sturdily built. Very happy with our first purchase from this company.

I purchased a very, expensive Natuzzi sofa with upgraded leather and choice of color. What I received was a patchwork sofa. When I complained to the saleswoman she said, We can't get the colors just so. Well, Why pick a color if you can't deliver? this was 5 years ago. And I am stuck with the sofa. I also purchased a Stanley siddeboard from them that I was told was "hard wood solids" The sideboard will dent at the slightest touch. I think I paid extra money for Pine.
At any rate, I will NEVER shop that store again.

I have dealt with the store for about 24 yrs now.. I find them extremely helpful, in helping me make my choices. I bought a Nutuzzi sofa that I love.. was perfect choice for me, and still looks like new after 6 yrs.
I recently bought a a leather recliner, Lane. Not real happy with it, but Matter Brothers is working with me ! It is not Matter's, but Lane that I am not pleased with. It was fixed once and the repair person, came again said it is not doable. So I am working w/ Matters to get a dif replacement.
I wish it wasn't taking so long though, since this is the only chair in my home.. it isn't real comfortable to sit in a recliner that doesn't recline or hold properly..but I do believe Matter's will make admends .

I went into the Pinellas Park location today Dec 4 2007 at app 3 PM. No one was in the parking lot. Two employees /man and woman where busy chatting away about family. I went to the section that I was interested in. The woman walking over with another person with a book stated " I will be right with you" I preceded to look at the item I was interested in purchasing. 10 minutes later I walked to the front center. The two employees where still chatting personal? The woman looked surprised and said I will be right there. She followed me, answered some questions. I wanted to purchase the item it was not in stock. She stated "she would call Mr. Matters" HA HA she came back and stated that Mr Matters could not sell me the item? I would have to back-order it. But wanted me to purchase a item that was similar. Ok lady, I know what I want and came in for. No deal. I will purchase and have delivered the same item from a different dealer tomorrow. Ok Mr Matters, your loss my gain. Rude discerning employees. Do I really believe that woman had to call you? get a life. Better ways in a recession to have to jump up and down for a store to take a debit card for $1,000.00. Again, what a joke. D H

This is my place to go for furniture. I have found the most unique pieces to go with my Florida themed home. Not only are their unique pieces, but if you go frequently, you can catch some unbelievable sales. Even without a sale and on custom orders, the prices are the most reasonable around. I like the friendliness of the employees and the fact that they are up front about delivery expectations. I bought the furniture for my family room, bedrooms, my den and formal living room at this Matter Bros, and I could not be more pleased with quality and design.

I like this place. It has different and unique pieces from the other basic furniture stores. They also carry a large selection of Florida type furniture. Nothing is repetitive. I really liked the uniquness of it. The sales people are very friendly and not pushy. I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality of the furniture. This was my grandmothers favorite store to shop in for furniture. Prices I think are equal to even the cheaper types of factory furnishings due to the quality of furniture you get.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience shopping for furniture at Matter Brothers off of US19 in Pinellas Park. We had looked everywhere for a TV armoire that would go with our new sofa. We didn't find anything on the floor at Matter Brothers so the friendly sales person began hunting through catalog after catalog until she found what we were looking for. It did take a few weeks for our furniture to come in, but it was well worth the wait.
