I took my cat to the lakeland spca I didn't want him put down. He was so sweet and friendly. The people their said he will ne adopted ASAP. And I can call or visit him when ever. After one day he was up on a site for adoption. The next day I call an try told me he was put down for being bad. He had just got their. No time was giving for him to adjust. I was better off letting him go in the street. Then my mom call acting as someone else an they tell her he was adopted.I will never take another pet their again.

Several years ago I went to the SPCA to look at the dogs hoping to find a larger dog. I found the people extremely helpful and yes I found the perfect dog. When the lady came with the papers this dog actually went to her, took the papers out of her hand and brought them to me. Done deal I knew we would be together always. That was almost 9 years ago now and everyday she is with me is a blessing.

Have gotten 2 dogs from there who are both happy and healthy. My only complaint is that they will not agree to have your vet look at the animal before you adopt. After having a bad experience with another agency giving us a dog with chronic, severe health problems which had to then be returned, we were very nervous about getting another rescue dog. They could get a deposit or even the full amount that could be refunded if your vet found health problems, instead you have to take the animal and start getting attached to it before you can get it looked at. It is heart breaking having to return an animal after it has been in your home. That is the only bad issue I have had with them though other than the staff could be more friendly at times. Having said all that though my mom loves her shih tzu. I love my Aust Cattle mix. We lucked out!

Our family dog got lost and I called everywhere looking for him. I finally found him at the SPCA, someone had turned him in. When I called them it was after 3 pm and I was still at work. I asked them to keep him one more night and I would come right away the next morning to get him. They charged me $30 to get him back! Then when I picked him up the girl behind the desk informed me that one of the vet techs in the back was 'going to take him home if no one picked him up'. I was also informed that he was 'at least 15 pounds underweight' but he had just been to my personal vet a couple weeks prior to that - and his weight was fine! I really got the impression that they were mad at me for picking up my own dog - since the other girl wanted him and they thought he was not being cared for properly. What a joke! He was MY DOG...don't they want dogs to be reunited with their families?

Don't even think about adopting a dog and then taking it back to them! They treat you like you don't deserve to have a pet - even though the dog tore up all your window treatments and furniture! I have realized that many of the animals come to shelters because they have issues. I will never adopt from the SPCA again unless it's a very small, very young animal.

I would, however, use the clinic facility again at the SPCA with no hesitations!

A few years ago I took three kittens to the Lakeland SPCA that I had found running loose outside of my mother's house. They all had slough feet and I knew that many people would love to adopt them. After first asking the pet store in the mall if they would like to take them, I was told by the owner that they only take cats from the SPCA. So, the next day I took the litter down to the SPCA. When I told the unpleasant girl behind the desk everything she informed me that since I had the kittens at my apartment overnight that they were now considered to be my property. This meant that since I was surrendering the kittens that I would not be allowed to adopt from the SPCA for who knows how long. Of course this information was not volunteered until after I had given the girl my driver's license for her to do the paperwork. Needless to say I do not recommend them and I now get my pets at the city pound. They are much more helpful and even cheaper.

Having to put our dog down that we had had since she was a puppy was the hardest things I've ever had to do. When we were ready to get another dog though, we headed straight for the SPCA. We adopted two brother puppies and they have been the best dogs ever! I will most definately go back for any future dogs to come and would recommend anyone to them! They are great people working for an amazing cause!

It was hard for me to take the family dog that we adopted when my son was 5 months old to the "pound"! We had just moved into a rental house and were no longer able to keep him. I was afraid that our dog would be put to sleep, but the workers assured me that he would get adopted asap. The workers were all so loving and assuring, it made that hard task a little easier. We are in the process of buying a house, and one of the first things on my "to do" list is to head back over to this shelter and adopt a dog!
