Update: SBBC closed in September 2007. I worked at SBBC for a few years while in midwifery school. The midwives were fantastic, caring and loving. The care was premium and comparable medically to any OBs office, although much warmer. The level of perfection that SBBC attained int he birthing community is what inspired me to open my own birth center when they closed their doors. Heart 2 Heart Birth Center is located in Sanford FL right next to Central Florida Regional Hospital.

I had my youngest daughter her 14 years ago. The experience was wonderful for me the baby and my husband and kids. She was our 5 th baby so we were kind of old pros but still could not have done it without Robbie the midwife. The experience set in my oldest daughters mind even though she was only 9 at the time and she just had her first baby at a bc on Sept. 21 with me there. It was fantastic. I could not help comparing the two BC's though. well both were great i wish my daughter lived in florida so she could go to SBBC
I would and have recommended it to many soon to be mama's

I left my OB when I was 20 wks pregnant with my third child, I left in tears after being treated so poorly for so long. I found Special Beginnings later that week. My husband and I attended their tour and we fell in love, especially my skeptical husband. 19 weeks later our 3rd daughter was born. The care we received as a family throughout the pregnancy, labor and after the birth were amazing. Everyone was kind and caring and I actually became friends with the nurses and staff! When I found myself mysteriously pregnant 10 months later my husband looked and me and TOLD me we were having the baby at Special Beginnings! SBBC has everything needed for the uncomplicated natural childbirth, including an isolette, emergency medical equipment and a quick line to an OB and hospital if needed. It was so wonderful to labor in a room of my choosing and to go home four hours after we said hello to our newest family member.

I was taken aback by my interactions with the people here on my first visit. I was attempting to get pregnant and wanted to hire a midwife as soon as possible to get the pregnancy going well first off. However, when I went in I was told the midwife wouldn't see me until I was past my first trimester?? I then asked for a tour, which they did. I was taken on a tour through a lady's room several hours after she had given birth! How intrusive.. :/ Everyone that I first interacted with there was wearing scrubs, and it smelled somewhat like a nursing home. Lastly they are opposed to home births, which is really what I was looking for. I decided it was not for me.

That being said, I went back for a gynecological exam and it was great! Everyone who worked there was nice, laid back and informative. I think I might give them a second chance if / when the time comes for another birth.

I did give them a second chance for our next pending birth and again was taken aback by several people's attitudes there. The lab tech misspelled my name when sending things to Quest Diagnostics, so bills kept piling up. The first time I tried to fix it with quest but could not, so every subsequent time I would attempt to fix it with SB. The lab tech was rude and blamed my poor hand writting on her error, even though she admitted that she had a photocopy of both my insurence card and my driver's liscence. Another visit she told a woman who was 38 weeks pregnant that she was "fat" in a very suprised tone. The poor lady just looked at me in shock. I can't blame her. Don't *ever* call a woman fat, but especially not a pregnant one and REALLY never one who is a patient!

They are so busy they have lost any personal touch with the average mama, although more high-profile mamas still get it. Also, at one point, I thought I was having a miscarriage and so called an OB who was recommended by Special Beginnings. When one particular midwife from Special Beginnings found out about this, sh

If you're looking for a place to have your baby that's not heavy on interventions and believes in a woman's ability to birth her baby naturally, SB is the place for you! The midwives are phenomenal and only involved as much as you need them to be. They support women through their pregnancies, offering Birth Education classes, Red Tent nights and more. They have Doula's on staff to support you through your labor. The rooms are nice and cozy, it's like giving birth in your bedroom! Before you check out that hospital, check out SB!
