As you walk in you are immediately astonished at the selection of books on display. Then to find out there is a warehouse filled with even more of these books, listed in a database is so unbelievable! The staff is friendly, and the store greeter, a beautiful Golden Retriever is on hand to brighten your day! We really enjoy coming to this store. The selection changes daily and I always find what I am looking for. Thank you for all of your hard work.

Sincerely
Lynn Hernandez

It is so frustrating to go into this store when you're looking for a specific book. They have the books categorized in large sections but after that they're in absolutely no order and there's no database so they can't look it up for you. Also, I think the books are too expensive. Some of the ones I was perusing were not new, had bumped edges and loose spines, were not antiques, but still cost almost as much as a new copy.

On a more positive note, every time I've been in the cashiers have been friendly and eager to help search out whatever I was looking for. I also love the antique section, though there again they cost a small fortune most of them. Charming but expensive. Bottomline.

A little conundrum for the title of the store - we live on the GULF coast of Florida; hence there is no sea! That always bugs me when people talk about the ocean or the sea on our little gulf coast town, and seems especially funny that a literary retail store would make this mistake. That said, I think the store is just charming! It's like going back in time when you walk in the door. I mostly found paperback books, but they have nice hard bound ones too. The books are organized just like a library. When I went, we were able to find a lot of what we went in for. There is an abundance of titles for each of the authors they have. There's such a variety. I would recommend this store if you are looking for older books, or if you are looking for a place to spend a rainy afternoon. They sell more than books too. When we went, they had beautiful lamps and little dollhouses filled with realistic furniture. They have nice window displays which always entice me to go inside and shop! I know you'll enjoy your visit there and find some great treasures!

Business Response:

We Appreciate Your Words We began as a small bookstore in California, where I had a tiny view of the Pacific Ocean outside my window. I purchased the business that had been started by an amazing woman who reminded me of Katherine Hepburn. (Every once in a while we still find books with stickers that say "Maxine's Price".) The name of the store was "Books By the Sea" - all 200 square feet filled with about 6,000 books. Today, we have a beautiful building with over 4000 square feet and we have to lease additional space - another 2800 square feet to house our books. I kept the same name because I love being near the water and when I see that name on my building, I feel like I am there. I appreciate that you shopped with us and look forward to your next visit.
