I had a similar experience as the one previously listed. I had and eight year old cat that had sudden weight loss. I brought him in and all they did was guilt trip me that I could not afford to pay the 400 plus dollars that they wanted for testing, and over a grand that they said I needed to keep him in observation for a weekend. After reluctanly turning down many of the tests and treatments, we stil ended paying 350 dollars and only got sent home with antibiotics. This ended up being all he needed, and he returned to health. They made us feel like the worst pet owners in the world becuase we could not afford to put over a thousand dollars into the cat. I love my cat, but I just dont have that kind of money.

I will never use Banfield again. My cat was dying of kidney failure and we opted to euthanize her. It was the worst experience of my life. I thought the decision was sound, but the way it was handled was horrible.

They told me they would take her in the back to put the IV in and then bring her back. I told them I wanted to be there when she was sedated and when she passed on. I was assured I could be. WITHOUT CONSULTING ME FIRST, they used a sedative because they were having trouble getting the IV in. So when they brought her back she was senseless and out of it. I never got to say goodbye to her. She was just lying there with her tongue hanging out. I wanted to comfort her. She couldn't even see me.

After it was over and she was dead, the vet tech told me that she would give us some time with her alone, then she would personally check us out. When we came out, we had to wait 10 minutes with NO ONE there and then the lady (not the vet tech) at the desk said "oh, do you need to check out" like she did not even care or know that our cat just died. As I was waiting at the counter, by the way, I watched as one of the staff went into the room my cat was in and come out with my dead cat under her arm like a piece of garbage! She was carrying a bunch of other things as well. This was completely disrespectful!

On top of it, the cremation cost us upwards of $250 for an 8 pound cat. When I got my cats ashes back it was in a dollar store metal tin with paw prints on it. I don't think I could be more angry at this treatment, especially when compared to the death of my dog not 3 weeks later (from old age and arthritis, she was 17).

I went to another vet, obviously, because of the treatment I had from Banfield. At this vet everything was done in front of us. A slow sedative was used and we had ample amounts of time to say goodbye. Lights were even dimmed and my dog was on her favorite blanket on the floor, not some cold steel table like at Banfield. Not only that, my 65 pound dog's cremation was about $100 cheaper AND when I got her ashes back, they were in a beautiful, carved wooden box. This is the kind of respectful treatment all companion animals deserve. Banfield fails utterly in respect of animals. They are in it for the money and nothing else. This was one of the worst experiences of my life.
