My parents (senior citizens) took their 1997 VW Passat to them for an oil change in 2002 and they did not have the correct tools to work on a VW product - instead of stopping the job and telling my parents, they proceeded with the oil change, and stripped the the oil plug and instead of telling my parents that they didn't have a replacement plug to fit the vehicle they put a new plug in, but first they had to recut the grooves in the oil hole to accomodate their new plug. I purchased that vehicle in 2003 and have had problems ever since, I cannot go to any oil change store - I have had to ALWAYS go to a foreign car repair shop to get a simple oil change. I asked the foreign car repair shop to repair the oil plug and put the correct one in there and was told I needed to replace the whole oil pan ($300) to get it back to normal whereby I can go to anyone for an oil change. My parents didn't find out about what Firestone did until when needed their next oil change after their service which of couse was too late - they figured that if they went back to Firestone to complain, they'd probably be told we don't have any proof that they were the shop who did that shoddy work. But of course we know better. And the fact that Firestone never informed my parents what they did to that car is inexcusable. I would never trust them to do any sort of service to my or any family member's automobile.
