Power Yoga? Whats that? Not to worry! It sounds like something scary.. but at College Park Yoga we make it light and fun- because of that you leave feeling happy! Beryl Bender Birch enjoys coming to our studio not just because she likes us.. but because our students are so fun to teach Yoga! Yeah, the teacher at College Park Yoga instructs the class, It's the students that make the Yoga class. So- we were voted numero uno in 2004, 2006, & 2007.. its not just us(Theresa and Calvin) that made that happen... it's the people who come here to learn Yoga! So - come to the lil' place AKA CPY to get great power yoga/astanga instruction and practice with the best students in the nation!

College Park Yoga is my favorite place in Orlando

by Sharon A.

I love College Park Yoga, as I have been one of the most regular students for the past 4 years, even though I have to travel from Kissimmee at 19 miles away. I do it because the teachers, the practice, the studio, the students, the energy there is all just so right, uplifting, safe, fun, challenging and informative. Calvin and Teresa are always so kind and amazingly wise. I love them and am so grateful.

Great First Time Experience!

by Tammy H. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,542

Last night was my first time here...first time doing Power Yoga at all, in fact! It was amazing. The instructors were non-judgemental, positive, uplifting, everything yoga should be. I am so sore today, but I can't wait to go back for more!

bossy

by janet j.

I have done yoga all over the world and I was very excited to try this place. They acted like it was some favor that I had the great privilege of paying them money for a class, and then they just showed off and barked orders. Basically, they were mean. Maybe you have to be part of their clique before you are treated with open arms and kindness?

Nice and reasonable

by Renee P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,700

They also offer a variety of services including Prenatal Yoga. This class is taught by Anne, a certified childbirth instructor. You'll get an excellent yoga workout completely geared for the pregnant woman, plus all those tips and tricks Anne brings as a childbirth instructor. It's a really great experience for the active pregnant woman. I can't say enough positive things!

Great little studio

by kim r. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,363

This studio is the perfect match for the neighborhood. Owners Theresa and Calvin opened their little studio a few years ago, but it's thriving now. I've never been to a class that wasn't packed. Inspired by their guru Beryl Bender Birch, Theresa, Calvin and their instructors offer great ashtanga yoga classes several times a week to accomodate everyone's schedule. The less packed classes are the early morning sessions. Calvin and Theresa also just opened a second studio by UCF.

Great yoga, great people, great place!

by Mary C

I am a yoga beginner who was invited to College Park Yoga by a friend who is anything *but* a beginner! And so I work on my breathing and try not to fall over while she's next to me wrapping her body parts around in impossible directions.

What I love is that there are lots of both of us at CPY. Lots of beginners, lots of people who have had a good yoga practice for years and years, and lots of people in the middle. It manages to be a place for everyone to come and practice yoga comfortably together. And the fantastic instructors - Theresa and Calvin - seem to have an uncanny ability to push everyone to work their hardest while avoiding making anyone feel self-conscious or upset about any current limitations.

I can't say enough positive things. I never feel as good as I do when I walk out of that yoga class, sweaty and disheveled and exultant. You should go. Bring a friend or two. And just keep breathing.

Pros: Welcoming calm environment, encouraging and expert staff

Cons: I honestly can't think of any....

Great place to take yoga!

by godessss

I loved a yoga class there which was a combo of kundilin yoga, ashtanga and dance. I forget the teacher's name. That class was exhilirating. Everyone working at the center is super nice too. I don't know if it is still in business though?

I can't live without CPY!

by autumnltd

I attended my first yoga class at CPY (first yoga class ever, for that matter) in Jan 2007. . .Now I cannot live without it. T & C are the most innovative teachers that I have ever encountered. They really get into your head (and your heart). I would never have considered myself a yoga student before - but now I know they have taught me about yoga and about life....

Pros: T & C

Cons: Nothing

this is not your typical yoga place

by rose4bronx

I have been practicing yoga since 1994. I moved from NYC to Orlando in 2006 worried about finding a yoga class that would help me progress as a student and aid me in my path of yoga on all levels. Thank goodness I found College park Yoga. The instructors Theresa and Calvin are fantastic. Not only do they maintain personal practice beyond asana (postures), they also know how to relay the essence of yoga in a manner that makes sense to anyone new to yoga or seasoned. The practice they teach is based on Power Yoga which is an internal heat practice. Be sure to be while hydrated, while they don't heat the room it can seem warm to you if you haven't had any water to drink. The atmosphere is warm and inviting much like walking into your own living room, leaving the city to be in Orlando was a big change for me and College Park Yoga made me feel right at home!

They also have a powerful grasp about the practice of yoga and remind students to bring attention and to be as focused as possible. They get that yoga is training and that training the mind to be focused takes a lot of effort. They are very compassionate towards those who have a hard time with remembering to focus. Ultimately this studio brings peace of mind and happiness to my world. The dedication these 2 have to yoga and to their students is unmatched by any yoga studio near or far. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who truly wants to make a difference in their life and health and to live with "no worries".

Pros: Great space, knowledgeable instructors, convenient class times, great for any level of yoga student

Cons: We can't duplicate College Park Yoga and plant more of them all around the world.

A little to "granola" for me

by mxgirl280

I love Yoga, and have been looking for an affordable place in college park for some time......so I tried this place. First of all, this place is so hot inside you can barely breath, even though they say it is not the type where they crank the temp up. Then, all the instructors keep repeating the entire class is how you are not supposed to be looking at the people around you. I never do, and I am there just for myself, but with them constantly repeating it every 2 minutes.......literally.......made me think other people were staring at me and then made me paranoid to even look anywhere but the floor! I went a few times thinking maybe there are a bunch of new people in this class and they want to let everyone know the deal, but the next 4 times were all the same. Then after the class when you are dripping with sweat because of the 95 degree temp in the room, they want to hug you good bye. I am sorry, but I don't want anyone to touch me when I am sweaty, and I sure don't want to touch a complete stranger when they are dripping with sweat! I guess I am there for exercise and peace of mind, not to act like I am in a hippie conmune or something.

Pros: Good price, great location

Cons: high temp, crowded with tree hugging hippies

Quite possibly the best yoga studio on the planet.

by sabrina512

Calvin and Theresa are amazing. This is a very special studio. There are few places left where people really care about each other; this is one of them.

A Perfect Balance

by polygonpanties

The practice at this studio perfectly balances the physical and mental benefits of yoga. The ashtanga instruction is such that students can take a class for an energizing, strength-building workout or a restorative mental cleanse (or both)! Owned and operated by a couple deeply committed to their discipline, CPY's atmosphere brims with sincere warmth and friendliness. Although they and many of their students are very advanced, the instructors help beginners stay motivated and confident, provide lots of suggestions for modifications, as well as encourage you to use the resting positions instead of hurting yourself to achieve a body-contorting asana. If you go take your first class, definitely take them up on their one-time only offer of the first three classes for $20.
