I have been going to this hospital for many years, thay have always been professional, caring and HONEST. They treat my dogs and I like family. This doctor reconstructed my dog's front legs after a brutal attack from another dog. He is a miracle worker and I would not go anywhere else. They are all amazing!!

I would not recommend Minton Animal Hospital to anyone. We took our cat there a few weeks ago for an annual checkup and rabies shot. We requested that she be tested for feline leukemia. The tech administered her the feline leukemia vaccine BEFORE testing her.

During a follow up phone call, the tech blatantly lied to us stating that we decline both the feline leukemia and Bartonella tests after receiving an informational handout. We NEVER received this handout, nor did we decline either test. We REQUESTED the test. We never would have had our cat vaccinated without testing her first.

A day after our appointment, our cat started sneezing (several times per day). Over the next two weeks, she became very lethargic and would not eat. Regrettably, we took her back to the same vet. They diagnosed her with a "virus" and had a fever. I have no doubt that this virus was caught from their office during our first visit.

At our second visit, we also expressed concern that our cat was given a vaccine without being tested first to Dr. Hemenway. Dr. Hemenway's was that "he was not responsible for his techs and he trusts them to do the right thing". He took no ownership, nor cared about our concern.

Additionally, Dr. Hemenway does not offer up much information during exams. If you ask a question, he will answer, but he's not very friendly. We will not be returning to this office. I question their professionalism, sanitation, and honesty.

And on a side note, they are way over priced. We are willing to pay more for good service, but this is not good service.

I strongly recommend looking around for a different vet.

This place stinks, I would avoid it at all cost, They told us our dog had Liver Disease a few months ago, He was checked by another vet. yesterday and he is just fine! Then they wanted over $400 to run additional test on him.\r

This is the sworn statement I made to the authorities.

Thank you for your time reading this. I had sent this letter originally to Melbourne and was notified my address is in your jurisdiction.
On March 26, 2013 at about 1645HRS. J. Scott Hemenway, came to my home at 1540 Seneca Drive Melbourne and assaulted me claiming I owe his company for vet services.
He came to my door unannounced and unexpected. He is the vet we have owed almost 1000$ to for about three years.
We have been paying him off bit buy bit, and got the bill down to just under $360.
I had called the Minton Animal Hospital and asked if I could come down and pay $300 to pay off the debt and was told yes. I am not sure if this was January/December or November. This of course is a civil matter. It was a simple dispute until Mr. Hemenway came to my home and on my doorstep took his bill I had returned RETURN TO SENDER, shoved it into my chest and screamed at me that there was something wrong with my mail service. When I realized what he was about, I demanded he get off my property, and he refused until I actually got my cell phone to call 911.
I was terrified. I had no idea if this man had a weapon or what he might do beyond unprivileged touching.
Please find enclosed a copy of a letter and check I sent to Mr. Hemenways business. I do not accept that I owe him any money, but if all it will take is $75 to get rid of him I will gladly give him the money. His claim is I still owe him $59 of a $1000 debt. I am willing to offer him $75 to leave us alone.
I am filing this incident report at this time, but if Mr. Hemenway where to assault me again, I will need this report to argue for a restraining order. I hope you will never hear from me again appertaining to this, but I am writing both you and Palm Bay Police, (where his business is established) because I am in fear of this man, and I have every reason to believe if he would drive from Palm Bay to my home in Melbourne with the intent to do what he did, it is reasonable to question any of his behavior.
Officers, simply because I am not a push over, and I am not, does not mean this man did not terrify me. He absolutely did, and my prompt outcry is absolute manifestation of that.
I am free to come and swear a complaint if this incident report is not sufficient, and will thus wait to hear form you.

Good reviews are either from when this this place was run by the previous owner or the current staff!! STAY AWAY from this establishment!! I've been taking my dogs here for a couple years for their shots because it was, gasp, convenient. I've noticed that this office is snarky, unprofessional, overcharges and has zero grasp of customer service. This last time took the cake. Blatant rudeness and overcharging finally got to me. Do not take your pet here unless you like to be treated poorly, overcharged and then treated like they are doing YOU a favor by allowing you to bring your pet to them. The office manager needs to be FIRED. She looks like she just came off a bender, smoked a pack of cigarettes before work and not showered in a week yet she'll speak to you as if you're an idiot and you're interfering with her time. You know when fools tilt their heads down, tilt their eyes up to look at you with a snarl on their face? That's literally what this woman did when I questioned their pricing. She told me if someone else paid less it's because she's the office manager and she was being nice to them. NO LIE!! Exact words of this fool. Take your business elsewhere!!

I read bad reviews of this place - but I had been there before (I saw the woman vet. and she was good in my opinion) - so I went back hoping I would see her. Unfortunately that was not the case. I saw Dr. Hemenway. I took my cat in there because he was vomiting nonstop. This man was very cold when "examining" my pet (which was a joke - he didn't listen to his heart, or his stomach, didn't look in his ears, didn't do much of anything other than feel his body). I tried talking to him - but he wouldn't respond to me - which I found so uncomfortable and odd. Then he looked at me and said "I dont' know what to tell you, it could be many things". He then said - "You" (meaning ME) "You will have to decided the course of action". OMG - I didn't go to school for this - if I could decide the course of action I wouldn't have been there. Then he told me that he would write up an estimate for tests - and he then left the room...nothing else...Shortly after an assistant came in with the estimates - which was a one page printout (totalling hundreds of dollars) - obviously just a carbon copy that he gives to everyone! I asked the assistant why my cat would need any of these - she didn't know what to say - she just tried her best to explain each item. THAT DR. NEVER CAME BACK!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT???? Anyway - I told the assistant that I wanted to do what worked in the past with my previous vet - and asked for antibiotics. She brought me in the pills and I was on my way...TO ANOTHER VET!

So, I went to Animal Hospital of Palm Bay...NIGHT AND DAY PEOPLE! What a difference. Now, I am not here to endorse them - but I do want to point one thing out. I noticed on this review page that someone mentioned she was charged $19 for 3 pills of the same antibiotic that I got. I was charged over $22 for my pills...When I went to Animal Hospital of Palm Bay - they felt that my prescription should be doubled - so they gave me an identical perscription...they charged me $8.30! UGH!

I do want to say that the office staff at the Minton Animal Hospital were nice and I am sorry that they have to work there.

I took my ill cat in there because they were open on the weekend and my regular vet was closed. First let me say I have a dog with epilepsy so I have spent a lot of time in vets offices and with vets. When we went to Minton Animal Hospital we saw Dr. J. Scott Hemenway. My cat has a runny nose, crud in his eyes, soft wet stools but not diarrhea, he got sick 1 time, and he's been lying around since then which is very unusual. Because my cat is only 9 weeks old and 1.5 pounds I was very worried about him and they knew it. Dr. Hemenway did his very quick exam which consisted of running his finger over his ears to make it look like he looked in them, but I know he didn??t really looked inside there is no way he didn??t even open up the cats ear and look inside it. ALL the vets I have ever been to look inside animals ears with a magnifying instrument but Dr. Hemenway did not. He then picked up my cat and gave him a quick look, fluffed the hair on his back then put him on the ground to see him walk. My cat was walking low to the ground kind of checking out his surroundings, obviously scared. The vet asked me if my cat always shakes when he walks. Are you kidding me? I told him no and that I think he is just scared. I got the feeling that Dr. Hemenway was going through the motions of checking the cat out but had the intentions the whole time of ??suggesting?? testing. After the 2 minute ??exam?? that was done Dr. Hemenway told me that there could be no real way of telling what??s wrong with him with out diagnostic testing, and he would have an estimate drawn up. Then he said if we don't find out what wrong with him it could be really bad. Then he left the room. I stood there feeling like if I do something my baby could die. I got scared thinking of how much this is going to cost. They came back with an outrageous estimate for blood work to test for FeLV, Bartonella, & aids. X-rays to check for something lodged in his track, scaring me with dehydration because he??s so small (I said soft stools not diarrhea), you name it and they probably said it.
I decided to not do any of the very expensive testing and go with the conservative treatment. They made me feel even worse because ? ??he??s just so small and can get dehydrated so quickly.? Did I forget to mention my cat drinks water like a sponge, AND he does NOT have diarrhea just soft stools. They gave me 3 metronidazole 50 mg tablets for $19 and put him on a very bland diet of i/d Hills Canned food for a few days at $2 a can then gradually go back to his regular food over a two week period. OH but I can always just ??pop-in?? for more food when I need it.
I looked at my bill and saw that they charged me $21 to collect a stool sample. I asked why they charged me that because I brought in the same they didn??t ??collect?? it. The lady told me that was a standard fee. I said even though there is a charge here to test the sample also? She said yep. Then I asked why they didn't give him antibiotics and the nurse said because he isn??t sick. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I asked why they would think he isn??t sick when he has a runny nose, crud in his eyes, soft bowels and he VOMITED. She told me he would have to have a fever to be sick. ??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! PLEASE DON??T EVER GO TO THIS VET.

We moved up here a year and a half ago from Broward County with our Older female Chihuahua. We knew that she had a heart condition and was on medications for it when we transferred her care to Minton Animal Hospital. After REPEATING ALL of the tests and studies that she had PREVIOUSLY had (And PAYING for them a SECOND time), and hearing ONCE again that she had PERHAPS a year left, we FELT that she was in good hands... BOY WERE WE EVER WRONG! After Maintaining her on her medications since January, when she took a turn for the worse last week, the Doctor and Staff REFUSED to call her in a medication that she had PREVIOUSLY been on (and that they KNEW about) UNLESS we brought her in for an examination, EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW HER DIAGNOSIS HAD NOT CHANGED! Instead we decided to CHANGE Vets to a more compassionate Animal Center for either her "transition" or further care, as I will NEVER again allow a Vet who ONLY cares about generating an Office Visit, tests, and MORE FEE$ even BREATHE on my Animal! If you Care AT ALL for your Pet you WILL NOT take them to Minton Animal Hospital, there are MUCH BETTER alternatives out there in the area! Her NEW Vet adjusted her medications, and she is doing FINE now!

I have taken my cats to them for several years. Everyone is pleasant. Once I thought the Dr. was not as thorough checking the cat; but next time he spent a lot of time. I do not like the girls at the desk answering questions or giving advise when I call. I've learned ASK FOR THE DOCTOR TO CALL YOU. They seem a bit expensive, but provide a lot of paperwork (picture) and attention to the animals. Tips to others: Just be sure to ask questions of the doctor till you get all your answers...communication is always best. I'd prefer an "all cat" clinic but have yet to find one in my area. One of my cats is under treatment for severe constipation so "the jury is out" on whether I'm totally satisfied as she's not well yet.

Our dog was having lots of problems and we noticed he needed to go to the doctors. We live really near this hospital, made an emergency apt and got him in. They advised us he needed fluid work, urination test, and x rays. To me it didn't make any sense so i did research and found out this was the cheapest place to go. If our dog lastest longer than he did we would have put him on a plan from Banfield (in Petsmart). Its like dog insurance. We found out that we had to put our dog to sleep because he had cancer and a big tumor. The doctor didn't seem too friendly at all and it wasn't as professional as I would have liked it to be. At that time we paid for everything and didn't bother to look at the bill because we were so hurt and afterwards we noticed that we were charged for things that we shouldnt have been charged for at all. We never consented for them to do any of what was done nor we did we approve it. We never bothered to get the money back because we thought it was a hassle. The people there did stay open later than they were supposed to, which was really nice of them, and the front desk people were nice. They sent us a sympathy card and we sent one back. The cremation was nice because when we picked his ashes up they had a note in there, his ashes in a plastic box and a piece of his hair tied on it. But I'm pretty sure this cremation place is used in most hospitals around town. The staff wasn't too bad but I wish they would have seemed like they cared more than expected (it was hard) and the doctor was a little more considering. The doctor came out from the back and just threw the xrays up and in a sentence (basically) that he had cancer and a tumor the size of a softball & we needed to put him to sleep. I would try recommending somewhere else first but again this is the 1st time we had to take him anywhere. \r\nIf you have any questions PLEASE feel free to contact me....my email is Lindarose805@yahoo

Pros: great people great service

From the moment I walked in the front door I was approached with smiling faces and my animals were greeted with "Hello's" and pettings on the head. They took care of all my questions and concerns and they also offered my pets a treat after their visit was over. The doctor's took their time with me and my pet and the technician was so kind to my pet. The receptionist was very professional and kind. I would recommened Minton Animal Hospital to anyone who want gentle care for their pets and compationate understanding to the client.

Under its new ownership, I have found that Minton Animal Hospital's Customer Service has significantly declined. Although the Doctors are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable, the receptionist, Destiny, was rude and obnoxious. There are several local alternatives who pride themselves on Customer Satisfaction. I would seek out an alternative.

PROS: Knowledgeable Doctors
CONS: Rude receptionist with horrible customer skills.

This is a new vet clinic to me, and I found them to be very courteous, very kind, and ready to help me with any question I had. They got me in quickly, and when I've needed to "drop" in for products (flea control), they have been quite accomodating. This is a great place!!
