I worked for Dr. Harper and Edda for nine months. He was the best vet I have ever been associated with in my entire life and I have always been an animal owner. Every animal was shown respect and the most gentle accommodations that could have been taken. He always maintained his #1 oath and that was to do no harm to the animal. Edda worked sooo very hard in doing her portion of the partnering which was always very very difficult and never complained. I was made feel like a very intricate part of their business and felt I fit in perfectly with them. They treated me and my child like family and it was the best job I ever had. I never dreaded going into work and loved them both dearly. I let them down and have to live with that every day but not their mistake...mine. I regret every day how things turned out but will never be sorry for the time I spent working along side of them. The community has definitely lost a tremendous asset for their animals as these two retired and get to enjoy their lives now. Best of luck to them both.

Dr, Harper and his staff are caring individuals. They love every animal that comes through their door. I would highly recommend their pet services to anyone who needs vet care.

I was referred to Dr. Harper for laser surgery to have a growth removed from the mouth of my 15-year old dog, Cody. Cody is usually very stressed and has to be muzzled when he??s around people he doesn??t know, which increases both his anxiety and mine. Dr. Harper and his staff went out of their way to be considerate of Cody??s age and temperament, and made us both feel so comfortable and relaxed that he did not need to be muzzled and remained completely calm through the entire process.

I was with Cody when they administered the anesthesia, and even invited to stay and watch the surgery! It was an amazing experience and it meant so much to me to be with my dog through it all!

I was overwhelmed by their gentleness with Cody and their kindness toward us both. Cody is doing great and I am so grateful to Dr. Harper and his staff for their thoughtfulness, compassion and professionalism! I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone.

I have taken my Akita to different vets in the area. I decided to try Animal Clinic of Dunlawton. WOW, was I impressed. Dr. Hart was very informational and checked my dog for things no other vet has ever checked. I found the staff to be very nice and the wait was very short. His prices are very reasonable. Thank you Dr. Hart and staff. I have found a new vet!!!

From my interactions and dealings with Dr. Harper, I believe this is a special type of person who is not afraid to listen. To me the pet owner and above all, the pet itself.
Since animals have very high tolerances for pain and can't always show how badly or where it hurts, it takes you the owner to play a big part of your pets wellness. You know your pet better than anyone and when they are off their feed, or if they lay down differently, or just are moping around all day unable to get comfortable, you would notice this where as the Dr would not know these things.
This Dr and his staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you get in as quick as possible and by listening to what you have noticed as far as any changes in the pets regular voiding movements, or daily routines to help determine if you should come in right away, or at a more leisurely schedule.
When you do arrive, they are full of questions as to anything that has been out of the ordinary so as to get a better understanding of what the issue may be.
They are always courteous and helpful and once it is just you and your pet and the doctor, he will ask more questions, but most of all, he wants you to explain to the best of your ability, and listens very well not trying to talk over you but taking in everything you have to offer as this is the best form of communication.
Book smart??s are one thing, but to be a truly effective veterinarian, you have to be able to listen. Listen to things that seem immaterial to the average person but could be very important to the health and well-being of your pet. Dr Harper will never talk down to you and will listen intently to you in order to absorb all the information you have to offer and in return he will explain to you, in terms you can understand helping as best he can to explain any other questions you may have.
Remember, "Listen with your eyes, and See with your ears", you can pick up on the most minute innuendo's that may seem meaningless yet could hold the answer to the issue at hand. Dr Harper has an excellent bedside manner as you will see when he handles your pet, you may not notice but every touch has an expected reaction and when these things don't occur, once again, another hint to the problem.
The only way to learn these things is almost to become one with the animal and speak calmly and project confidence and security as well a comforting safe presents to them as they will relax and even more is exposed to be interpreted by the doctor.
Keep up the good work Dr Harper.
I wish there were others out there more like you and if so, there would not be as many reasons to make multiple visits, playing a guessing game saying that well, "the last treatment didn't work, let??s try something else". the mannerisms of Dr Harper are very good, both with the animals and the owners alike. As I said, he conveys that he truly wants to help, that this is not just a job. It Is a Lifestyle.

Once Again, Keep Up The Good Work, and Thank You Very Much for your dedication to your chosen Profession.
Again,
Thank You Dr Harper and Crew.

Dr. Harper is one of the best vets in town and is especially known locally for his orthopaedic skills. A good diagnostician. He is one of the few vets in town who participates in the Halifax spay/neuter program and he deserves our support for that. His spays and neuters are beautifully done.

I have been to this office 4 times and they can be a little rude to the people. They treat the animals wonderfully, but not the people. Over all I would not go back.

I can not possibly say enough about Dr. Joe Harper and his staff. He is a brilliant man. Both he and his staff are extremely up front, kind and caring. I have been a client for over 8 years now and I would never seek medical advice elsewhere. He's done it all for me.....eye surgery, knee surgery, neutering, cancerous tumor removal, pancreatic cancer diagnosing and most recently the euthanasia of my beloved 12 year old boxer. Simply put he is the best!
