Take your precious pet there at great risk. I took my little 3-month old kitten there for a simple operation on a tail injury. She is now dead - died in surgery. The vet is very young and obviously VERY inexperienced. He tried to make up a story about his heroic effort to save her, but it was equally obvious that he was squirming and uncomfortable with his story. Bottom line - if you want your pet alive - DO NOT TAKE THEM TO THIS PLACE.

I am considering legal action against the clinic. They did a complete physical on my baby, including blood work, just three weeks before this surgery. If there was anything wrong, they should have noted it then, not scheduled her for a simple surgery that could kill her. Likely story. I do not trust them and will NEVER take another pet there. I am going to make certain that everyone hears this story.

Friday 10/18/13 I took my min. schnauzer to the vet because the cyst on his leg started swelling and looked about to break open. (On a previous visit the vet said that it was a fatty cyst and if it wasn't bothering him not to worry about it.) I requested that the vet remove the cyst. He refused and instead gave me a referal to an oncologyst because my sweet baby had cancer - he was completely certain in his diagnosis. My choices were; an oncologyst, amputation, put the dog down, do nothing until he dies. I was completely heartbroken.
Sunday 10/20/13 Woke up to find that the "tumor" had broken open and was draining. I took Sam to the emergency vet (highly recommendParkway) and they cleaned the area, cut away some dead tissue and stitched up his leg. Instead of cancer, my dog had an abcessed cycst.
I contacted Kathleen to let them know what had happened, and asked for 3 things; an apology, a review of the vet that diagnosed cancer and a refund of the money I spent on the 18th since I had to spend even more getting the cyst cleaned and stitched at the emergency vet.
I got nothing - the explaination was "professional difference of opinion"

take your fur babies to them at your own risk (and theirs)

Awful experience. Been taking my pets there for over 4 years for regular "maintenance". Rabies vaccination, wellness exams, nothing fancy. My basset hound became ill with vomiting and diarrhea and after dropping close to $300 in two visits, I was told that there was nothing else they could do for my dog and they referred me to a clinic in Brandon, 45 miles away. Instead, I called Dr. Irelan's office in Lakeland and the next day, I had a diagnosis and a course of action.

Kathleen Animal hospital has the worse customer service I've seen in a vet's office and they act as if they do not care. They do care however for immediate payment. You wait forever to be seen and they don't seem to know who you are when you show up. I will never take another pet of mine there.

This is written 2 weeks after the above review

After taking my basset hound to Dr. Irelan's office on Marcum Road, she underwent surgery and had a lymphoma removed. Kathleen Animal Hospital was treating her for a virus or a bacteria. I'm sorry I trusted them with the wellbeing of my pet in the first place. Please, do not make the same mistake, you could lose precious time in obtaining the right treatment and it will keep you from giving your pet the care it needs.

I beg you to take your business to Dr. Irelan. I have no stake in his practice - three weeks ago, I didn't even know him. I can assure you that you will be treated with respect and that everyone in his office cares about you and your animals. They remember you after your first visit and Dr. Irelan deals himself with you over the phone. If it's for a diagnosis or treatment, he calls himself and make sure he explains everything thoroughly. And his fees are more than reasonable.

For lack of good options I continue to take my dog to this clinic for vaccines. But other than that I don't take him there, prefer to travel all the way to another town. When he was a puppy he broke his leg, spent the whole day there with the dog in pain to finally find out the leg was broken and I had to transport him all the way to the south side of Lakeland because they didn't do operations. Then for a while their service got a little better, less wasting of my time. We left him a couple of times on their kennel. They said that they walked him 3 times/day and did his business outside but the minute we come back from vacation he left a big one in the middle of my living room which has tile, he acted as it was nothing. That tells me that the whole time they've been leaving him in the "suite" doing his business right there. That's why the camera that we were supposed to be able to access never worked in any of the countries we visited during a 10 day trip. We let that go and used their kennel one more time, and then it happened...at 3 years old the dog never had a flea in his life and he came eaten up by fleas and TICKS the 3rd time we left him at the kennel. NEVER AGAIN we used their kennel. Complained and they make ME! pay for the remedy.

Just got back from putting down my kitty at another Vet. I took my kitty to Kathleen Animal Hospital 6 months or so ago to find out why she seemed to have difficulty swalling. They told me she was fine, just had a quirk. What I found out was that she actually had a TUMOR in her throat! It is common in felines and had been there for quite some time. How can they be so incomtetent?

I just recently moved here and one day after returning from school, I discovered puss and gunk on my little Tillys left eye..I had not yet found a vet however was aware of one literally around the corner from my house that I past every day..I instantly got suspicious because I had taken her to a groomers that I found online, the day before..I put her in the car and walked in..The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. The fact that she had never been there before or didnt have an appt, was not an issue..They took her right away..It was discovered that the person that groomed her, knicked her little eye..They gave me the required medication and helped me schedule a follow-up appt..The bill was very reasonable for the care and medication..I was also able to get recomendations for a reliable local groomer..I am very happy with the service that I received for Tilly and will continue her vet care with Kathleen Animal Hospital..

I have lived all over the world in our military and can say without exception this Vet is terrific. I retired recently and needed a vet for our Schnauzers, my sister had used Kathleen for a long time and I know why. I was given a gift as a welcome present and my dogs were well cared for each time. Recently one cracked a toenail and I called and was told to bring him over immediately. He was seen immediately and was ready when promised. I will definitely keep them as our vet and plan to use their grooming as well.

Doesn't handle complaints well and you will wait a very long time to be seen. Not always forthcoming. It seems their left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

I have taken all four of my dogs to this vet after VERY bad service at 'My Pets'. One pup was a stray that had severe separation anxiety and the doctors and staff were there every step of the way with encouragement and advice at NO EXTRA CHARGE. My most recent visit was for my new pound puppy who came home with very bad kennel cough. Two weeks later and he is happy and healthy thanks to Kathleen Animal Hospital. I have had nothing but good experiences and been given realistic expectations regarding my dogs' health. We had our large male come down with a spinal disorder and we were told all the options and what we might expect. KAH could have milked us for thousands but based on their advice, it was better to keep him comfortable but expect that he might not make it. Wanting a second opinion, we took him to a specialist in Tampa that told us he had '1-2 good years left'. This place charged us $800+ for an examination and false hopes. 14 days later we lost him from heart failure due to exertion. So much for the high priced specialist. KAH had it pegged from the start and we could have spared the false hopes if we hadn't gone for the second opinion. Though I would recommend another opinion in any case where there may be a chance, in our case it did us no good.

I have been taking my two Labradors and kitty here for ten years..the entire staff here is wonderful! The vets are knowledgeable, kind, caring, and know my pets. The vet techs and office staff know me and my "kids" and couldn't be friendlier or kinder to us all. Just last week I was referred to another vet by Dr. Bouton to perform a surgery on my 12 year old Lab. My dear lab is doing better than ever! Had Dr. Bouton not suggested the surgery and referred me to this other vet I don't think my Lab would be with me for much longer - the surgery has given him a much improved quality of life. I am forever grateful for the care that Dr. Bouton and her staff have given my three pets over the last 10 years - they really do care and do what's in the best interest of my "kids". I have truly struck gold with Kathleen Animal Hospital.
