This Chinese grocer is a must-visit among the area's Oriental markets. The owner, who is usually available in the week, is friendly and quite knowledgeable in the products the store carries. Though the store is in want of expanding, the sheer variety of the products available here is remarkably exhaustive, and the general organisation of the store is a marvel, given its cramped space. Dong-A Market is perhaps the most reliable source for Authentic Japanese ingredients under one roof. Fans of Japanese imported candies will be astounded at the half-aisle of ever-changing selections of wagashi, and there is even a curious selection of Dutch-imported stroopwafels and traditional licorice. The cookware and utensils aisles are an eyeful jumble, but even the most obscure item might be found here--like the takoyaki cast-iron pan for Japanese squid balls. The butcher's section is a small wonder. Live fish and lobster, seafood, and meat can be cut-to-order here. Browsers who visit this store should allow 2 hours minimum to navigate the maze of aisles and see all that this wonderful market has to offer--but please be mindful where you park your cart to avoid congestion. And while in the neighbourhood, might as well spend another couple of hours at the sister store, Dong-A Imports for your household needs and wants, just a block down from Dong-A Market. Look for both stores' striking red and yellow signs.

Dong-A is a well known establishment for the local Asian population. They offer Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Malaysian, and many other Asian grocery and food items. The owner herself speaks a number of languages and dialects which is very impressive! She's also very helpful if you can't find something.

You will also find fresh seafood and a butcher which is rare for Americans but almost a given for Asians. Highly recommended!

PROS: Wide variety of Asian foods. Helpful owner.
CONS: Cramped space, limited parking.
