My friend and I visited Butlers BBQ several years ago, and never stopped going back. The food is priced reasonably, and tastes amazing!! I love the bbq sauces, and the meat is done to perfection. The veggies are cooked SOUTHERN style so if your are looking fo crisp steamed crunchy stuff, this is not the place for you. Southerners cook veggies all day long. The Hush Puppies are do die for, I used to go there just for those. If you are going for atmosphere, this is not the place for you. Go to Sonny's if you want atmosphere. If you want real good food and friendly service, go to Butlers. You can get Cheerwine there as well. Yum. I now live out in Portland, but when I visit St. Pete, I always try and make it to Butlers. Good stuff!! I hope Butlers sticks around.

Pros: Great NC BBQ, best hush puppies I've ever had

Not sure what they could do to make it more disappointing. The food is terrible, i think it was microwaved. The cook who looks like he is 15 is standing in the back mean mugging you while you order. The place smells like the carpet is wet. The tables are greasy. There is so much grease in the air you leave feeling sticky. I would never eat there again. I went there with four people and we all had stomach aches later in the evening. The one positive thing that I can think of is the BBQ sauce was good. My 1 star rating is too kind.

I haven't yet tried anything that I didn't like. Family owned and very friendly. It's definitely worth a try!

I love it down here but miss the dozens of bbq restaurants in NC - the best one being in the state legislature cafeteria. I've had Butler's in and take out. It is different for some reason. It is some of the best if you get it in a bucket for a dozen or so people for a picnic, but the few times I've been there it is greasy and has skin in the meat. Maybe it is a coincidence, but I like it lean. It's cheap, but I'd pay twice the price for what I'm used to.

They have got the NC style down, and if you don't mind grease - have lunch.

Terrible! The sides were mushy, overcooked, definitely appeared to be old food reheated several times. Service appalling, when we complained the management was down right rude! We asked for our money back they refused since we didn't eat but a few bites we finally negotiated 1/2 money back. Worst experience!

Cons: ambience is kinda country but dirty looking and very depressing. Food old, re-cooked

I have visited Butlers numerous times and have never been disappointed. The owners and staff give it the family feel. My favorite sandwich was the bbq pork. I will have to say that they have an exceptional Chicken Salad sandwich. The sides are all homemade and very tasteful. Definitely worth trying. I can't think of a better barbeque place.

I heard the commericals on the radio and was curious to see if this was the real deal or not...I grew up in NC and a good Bar B Q sandwich was always a common thing living there, but it always had the flavor smoked in and always had the vinegar taste as well...Most Florida Restaruants that "claim to have NC styled BBQ" usually have it coverd with sauce to give it flavor...Well not at Butlers....This place was very impressive...not the fancy type of place with all the bells and whistles but the shine is in the Kitchen....The BBQ was awesome and the small town atmosphere, complete with North Carolina decor made me feel like I was right back in small town NC....The portions were very large and the sandwich covered the whole plate with meat spilling well off the bun...If you are homesick for Carolina BBQ, look no further--its right here!!

Pros: Small town appeal in the big city--staff was overly friendly

The ribs were small, very overcooked, and had hardly any smoke flavor. The sides were average at best -- fried green tomatos that were greasy and a cajun potato salad that was nothing special even though the cashier recommended it.

At more than $11 for 1/2 slab of ribs (6), two sides, and iced tea I consider Butler's ribs less than average at a more than average price. And the $11+ price is for the $8.95 Wednesday rib special, usually they are $2 more.

If you really like ribs, try Jazzy's BBQ on Waters Ave in Tampa. In comparison, Jazzy's ribs are big, meaty, and have an excellent crust and good smoke flavor. Although they can be a little fatty sometimes.

Wednesday is ribs day and Chopped Pork BarBQ sandwiches the rest of the time. I like Jimbo's in Tampa too, but this is better. Granny Bulter geets me each time like family, Lex is doing the cooking, his wife is the bar maid, and Brit is the cashier. The hush puppies are the best I've had in the area. There may be a line to order at lunchtime, but the wait is well worth it. Great taste and great value. I am from NC. The BarBQ sauce is lightly embedded in the pork so you have to shoot some more on of their own sauce, and it is great. Eastern NC is vinegar based and tangy and you might have to warm up too it some, but you WILL come back again for more. Bring your appetite.

I am a NC native and love the fact that I can find what I am used to right here in FL. I love the location to our home. The owners, Rex and Lynne, are wonderful people. They always make sure everything is ok and you are satisfied with the food. I have never left Butler's unhappy. They are also very child friendly! I find that very important in a restaurant. I give them a 10!

Excellent BBQ prepared the way it was intended - NC STYLE !! Butler's does an excellent job by offering a huge menu covering many different palletes. Among the crowd favorites are pulled pork BBQ, Hushpuppies, Brunswick Stew, and a very refreshing Cheerwine beverage to wash it down. A must try for BBQ lovers as well as hungry people--Imagine that.

Butler's is delicious! Granted, it helps to like pork, but they have chicken dishes, too. My favorite is the pork tray - marinated pork with THE BEST hush puppies I have ever had. Try their homemade BBQ sauce - it's tasty. Also delicious is the homemade sweet tea and sangria. It's locally owned, family run, North Carolina home cookin' with friendly service and casual (and clean) atmosphere. Try it!
