The owner (I believe her name is Susan) is always short and rude, both in person and on the phone. You would think spending $50-$100 on a cake would warrant some common politeness to paying and repeat customers. just to let every one know

I don't usually write reviews but had to take the time to do this because I have had several bad experiences with Kalupas over the past few years. I gave 2 stars because the cakes taste good but the rude customer service is unbearable.

Kalupa's rocks for customized bakery orders- they made my sister's bachelorette party cookies for us...cute wedding dresses and tuxedos. They have a great book of photos for baby and bridal showers...bachelorette cake was AMAZING and HYSTERICAL!

We used Kalupas for the first time for our wedding cake and people raved about the cake and how delicious it was. Never before had anyone really eaten more than a bite of cake at a wedding, The cake was entirely gone and the topper was promtly eaten the next morning by bride, groom and wedding party. We just couldn't see it go to waste by being frozen for a year. We have since ordered many cakes with the same composition, just not a wedding cake. Delicious!!!

Who needs to get treated badly for a stale muffin, anyway? And it's the OWNER that's so BAD! What is wrong with her?

Cons: I can't believe these people are still in business.

I went in to get a cake made as a surprise for my wife,I met with the owner who had one of the nastiest attitudes I've ever come into contact with.I felt as if she didn't believe that I could afford one of her over priced cakes.I'll never go back and never ever tell anyone I know to go there either.

Spoke to Susan numerous times on the phone regarding a custom cake for my daughter's 1st birthday. Very nice and helpful on the phone but I wanted to go in to work with her in person so that she could get an idea of what I really wanted for the cake. Upon entering the store, we were not greeted (even though they had no customers) -- we had to go to the counter and wait until someone came to ask what we needed. Upon meeting Susan, she was not friendly and her tone and mannerism gave off the impression that I could not afford a $200 cake and if that was the case then she wouldn't even run it by her baker. Also very rude about flavor suggestions. I advised that the $200 is no problem -- so she goes back discusses with her baker and comes back to tell me that (even though I am there over a month in advance) that she doesn't know if her baker has the time to make the cake I am looking for. I ended up leaving and going to Cakes Plus (located on 1732 S. Dale Maby Hwy) -- which was a totally different atmosphere upon entering...I ended up paying double the cost I would've paid by going with Kalupa's but its well worth it! I would not recommend Kalupa's to anybody, given the treatment I was given upon entering their establishment. Go with Cakes Plus...very nice and is also family owned and operated.

Pros: Nice on phone...but what a change when visiting the store

Cons: Rude, condescending

Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Kalupa make some of the very best baked goods I have ever had. I know this from personal experience. My name is Pam and the Kalupas are my Aunt and Uncle. I may live over 900 miles away, but I have been going to Kalupa's Bakery for almost all of my life. Every summer until I graduated high school my mom, Mrs. Kalupa's sister, and I would travel to visit them and have all kinds of wonderful treats. They make the best cakes and breads, as well as other pasteries. One of the best things they make are their gingerbread cookies. They are by far my mom's favorite(I like them too, of course). With a nice hot cup of coffee they make the most wonderful breakfast. If you are ever in the Tampa Bay area and have a sweet tooth(as many of us do), check out Kalupa's Bakery, they can't be beat.

We had almost everyone at our reception rave about our cake and how they normally don't eat more than a bite of the wedding cake because it is typically more for looks and lackluster on taste. We loved it so much that we ate the topper the next day with the wedding party at our home before leaving for our honeymoon.

No one can dispute the fact that Kalupa's bakes wonderful cakes. However, I will never again recommend that someone place a special order. Recently, I came to pick-up a custom ordered birthday cake at the agreed upon date and time only to find that the cake had never been made. Mrs. Kalupa herself took the order and stated she remembered the order vaguely...but the cake nor order were anywhere to be found. To make matters worse, they did not offer me a substitute cake. The birthday party was ruined.

We love to take any design in and have their cake artist creat a spectacular, original cake. We've had them put creations of our dogs, our houses, monopoly board witha twist, kidneys (for our Doctor friends), all kinds of things! Take in a picture, walk out with a masterpiece. You gotta try them out.

What a wonderful bakery!
Located near MacDill AFB, Kalupas makes amazing baked goods (try the Princess Cake!) that are beautiful to look at, too.
What a surprise that their lunch sandwiches, quiche, etc. are just as good as their baked goods.
There is only a small eat-in area, so plan your lunch to go. Fantastic!
