Remember that rather "heavyset" comedian who told his famous joke about how he kept getting in trouble at Chinese buffets since he was fat and ate a lot? "You go now! You been here FOUR HOUR!"

Well that comedian wouldn't be staying at Meridian Court for that long, I'm sure!

Like that comedian, I'm a big guy and I can put away some good Chinese buffet, let me tell you. I never met a helping of lo mein I didn't like.

That is, until today!

I'd read some negative reviews about this place but also saw that they had moved to a new location, apparantly a stone's throw away from the old. So, assuming that a new location may have meant they got a new attitude about what they served, I gave them a shot.

I should have become immediately wary of the fact that it was lunchtime on a busy intersection and there were no other patrons there. As I walked in, the staff who were all huddled near the kitchen looked at me with surprise, like they'd just realized they were open.

The buffet was placed in make shift steam tables wedged behind what used to be the bar or counter area of the restaurant that had no doubt been here before. It felt like you were going behind the counter to get your food.

The selection was incredibly limited due to this size contraint and the fact that they had at least 4 versions of the same "beef" with onions varying only slightly by adding a darker or lighter sauce.

The lo mein was spaghetti with a brown sauce, the fried rice was way too salty and the General Tso's, well, it was cold, congealed overbreaded chicken nuggets with a duck sauce/ ketchup and hot sauce gravy. Really gross!

To make matters worse...the soda was flat! Oh brother!

I had a few bites and went up to pay my check.

Surely they must have know something was up...A fat man eats half a plate and is done?! But they didn't even ask me if anything was wrong. I suspect they knew. You don't unknowingly put out crap of this caliber without knowing your screwing people.

After I paid my nearly $11 for lunch, I still left the kid who brought me my soda a buck tip. I felt bad for him.

He'll be looking for a job soon after this place goes under!

Pros: Lots of seating since it was empty, even at lunchtime

Cons: the food, the price

.

BUYERS BEWARE!
We went to this buffet for lunch and ALL of the food was cold. The chicken wings were bloody raw, and the bathrooms were NASTY. I complained about all the food being cold, and was told by the waitress that they start cooking at 11am, open at 11:30am, and the buffet tables take at least an hour to heat up. I asked for our check because I wasn't about to take a chance eating this food, and the waitress charged us full price: 5 adult buffets (one of my kids was 8yrs old) $7.95 each, three drinks, total- $45.74
Even though we ate NO FOOD at all, they demanded full payment because I informed the owner that I was going to call the Department of Business & Professional Regulations (Food inspectors) and turn them in. After I got home I looked up this restaurant, and they have received "SEVERAL" health inspection citations. BUYERS BEWARE!! You will get sick if you eat here.
