I've never had a problem at Aveda. the service has always been great. just keep in mind that they are students. my advice is to always take pics with you of the cut you want, which i never do because i get my hair cut on a whim. luckily the students all have their own scrapbooks full of hairstyles that they have put together. they take their time, i've never been out of there in less than an hour and half for just a cut and style, but all three times they seemed excited to work on me. i've gone there ready to chop my hair off only to have the stylist be timid about taking length off (which turned out to be one of the best styles i've ever had), and i've gone in wanting to keep it long and watching 3-4 inches turn into 6ish but the cut was nice. i've watched people walk out of there with some awesome haircuts and color. the cuts are rarely what i expected them to look like but i keep going back because they're never bad, i'm not picky, it grows back, and it's cheap and only a block away from my apt. i say give it a try.

I get my hair cut at the Aveda School and love it.

I got my nails done and hated it...The nail tech did not want to be there...she rushed through the appointment, it was supposed to be an hour and a half appointment I was done in less than an hour. My friend had the same appointment and was done in 30 minutes. It looks like a 3 year old painted my nails, and you get better exfoliation from a walk on the beach.

I will go back to the mall to get my nails done from now on...

For those asking about tuition, as in any college, you're best to visit and ask questions in person. When I started, tuition was right under 15,000. Now it is $18,000. and RUMORED to rise to $23,000. ~ The following is MY personal opinion, but I'm rather certain that in speaking to other students, you'd receive very similiar, if not the same information. Let's get this straight.....this school is owned my 2 business men. They invested in a product they believed in, but make no mistake, they do not have a background in cosmetology and the beauty industry. Yes, they want to turn out excellent stylists, also, for their school to thrive .....and TO MAKE MONEY. (don't we all?) ~ The school is tough, meaning....you will not succeed if you do not study. No, not all the educators are excellent. There is a bit of aloofness from the educators to the students, which is very unfortunate when confidence building could be so beneficial. This school is not for the unmotivated. Also, remember, this is an Aveda school so you learn the "Aveda way". Some of the schools rules reflect the laziness of administrators and teachers not wanting to deal with student issues. (example: if you are in a car accident on the way to school, verify this in fact is true and arrive late to class, you are sent home for the entire day. You lose 11 hours of learning. Neither the student or the school benefit from this rule. Just the administrator who does not have to deal with the student.) As colleges go, this is very unprofessional. ~ The days are long....on your feet the entire time....concrete floors. Seems odd we're taught to hold scissors a certain way, or retain a certain posture at the shampoo bowl in order to maintain our physical health, yet they design a school with concrete floors. ~ This school is not enjoyable. This statement is heard daily amongst students. BUT...Aveda does have a good reputation in comparision to other schools. ~ For those using the services......THIS IS A SCHOOL. We all here wish we could have a thousand mannequins to work on first, but we don't. Not every cut, color or service will be perfect. We work hard, and we try hard, but if that's not enough for you, then this is not the place for you. We'll see you after graduation, and that's fine. ~ Finally, I'll say this.....this school tries so hard to prepare their students for the "real world", that in many ways they've lost reality on what the "real world" truly is. Yes, when I graduate, I'll have learned alot, appreciate my education and be glad it's over.

Pros: Cosmetoloty is a diverse industry.

The hair salon was good. I went to a master's student and she did a very good job. I really like the color, although she did cut it a little shorter than what I had asked for. So, make sure that you tell them very clearly what you're looking for and probably tell them that you want it a little longer than what you're actually looking for.

In addition, do NOT get your nails done there. The stylists that have just come out of level one do the nails for two weeks or so and then go back to hair, where it seems they would rather be anyways. When you see that a pedicure is going to take an hour and a half, it isn't a good hour and a half, and they're fumbling around finding products and lightly rubbing your foot with files. I literally don't think the girl did anything, and mine took two hours. The seat was so terribly uncomfortably that I couldn't stay for a manicure. It's a metal bench with a patio pillow on it with your back to the wall. It was a really terrible experience.

Pros: Masters hair students are good, price, nice salon

Cons: nails

I've been to the aveda institute four times now to get hair services done. Every time was pretty much a complete disaster. I would go back after awhile and give them the benefit of the doubt (because my friends have gotten their hair done there and it looked great). However, I was unlucky I guess, because I never got what I had asked for. I've gotten my hair chopped off...when I DID NOT ASK IT TO BE...I've gotten an all over color that turned out looking like a spotted mess...and I got bangs that were entirely too short. Although, I was mad at the time when I had all of this take place (mostly because you have to pay no matter HOW MESSED up your hair is)... the thing I had to realize was that these are STUDENTS...and they are LEARNING on YOUR head. If that is a risk you are willing to take then I would recommend Aveda, because I have had friends that have gotten really good things done to their hair there. I would go there again only if I knew the student doing my hair and trusted them.

Pros: Can be less expensive then a normal salon (depending on services you get done)

Cons: You don't get your money back no matter how bad of a job a student does

I went here on recommendation of a coworker- I got a very nice, very inexperienced young lady cutting my hair. I know its a hair school, but I wished at the time the supervisors were doing their job better. I left with a good haircut, nothing spectacular, but then she asked to put makeup on me. I went not wearing any as I usually do, and left looking and feeling like a clown. She went way overboard for 11am and I couldnt wait to wash up. Her supervisor thought she did great- advice- its hit-or-miss :)

I used to go to the Aveda Institute in downtown St. Petersburg because it was fairly cheap, convenient, and I liked the stylist that they booked me with. Well, the front desk is probably the most unwelcoming atmosphere, which is a shame because once you get past them, the experience is usually okay. The woman who usually works there treats you as though she's doing you a favor by waiting on you. It has just gotten so unpleasant, and there are so many other places to go where they actually appreciate your business and treat you like a human.

Let?s get our facts right. I am a student in the school right now. I have 20 other students in my class and we have two educators that are there all the time to help us when we get in a jam. I love my teachers; they help me to be my very best every day. Please don?t bash my school when you don?t know what you are talking about!

The tuition is NOT $18,000.00 and I AM getting a great education. Every class has a minimum of 2 educators/teachers. I am about to graduate and I have been hired at one of the best salons in town and a salon that was voted top 200 in the country - Cant be all that bad!!!!

I am appalled by what I just read about the Aveda Institute. It is probably one of the best experiences I have ever had at a beauty school. I tend to go to beauty schools wherever I live for my hair color because I love helping kids help themselves. My sister went to beauty school. The difference is at this school is that these kids really care about you. I went back to the same student three times while they were in school. I can understand a person having a bad experience but that happens in life, people helping people or not. I recommend you give it another try.

I also cannot believe the negative comments....I had my hair done by a girl named Aubrey. Wow! I have paid $200.00 before and not had the wonderful out come that I had with her cutting/coloring my hair. She was truly happy to be doing my hair and was so very sweet and caring. Yes, it does take a little longer that normal, but I hope that if you are reading this you will give them a chance. For me, it was a great decision.

NGC 3199 lies about 12,000 light-years away, a glowing cosmic cloud in the southern constellation of Carina. The nebula is about 75 light-years across in this haunting, false-color view. Though the deep image reveals a more or less complete ring shape, it does look very lopsided with a much brighter edge at the lower right. Near the center of the ring is a Wolf-Rayet star, a massive, hot, short-lived star that generates an intense stellar wind. In fact, Wolf-Rayet stars are known to create nebulae with interesting shapes as their powerful winds sweep up surrounding interstellar material. In this case, the bright edge was thought to indicate a bow shock produced as the star plowed through a uniform medium, like a boat through water. But measurements have shown the star is not really moving directly toward the bright edge. So a more likely explanation is that the material surrounding the star is not uniform, but clumped and denser near the bright edge of windblown NGC 3199

Pros: it is possible to get a good service

Cons: the students are treated like dirt

I went to the masters studio for it's convenience. what I got was the finest haircut I ever had. The student was very good, but the master was the key. I kept saying that I wanted the back VERY short, or "gone". The student didn't get it. When her master came over, she explained the problem she was having, he asked me what I wanted, and when the student asked "so what should I do", he succinctly said "cut it shorter". I LOVED it! You can get a superior haircut at this masters studio (not the regular student salon); however, you have to speak up and be firm about what you want.
I takes more time....way more...than a walk in or regular salon. but if you speak up, and have the time, it's the best dept secret in St. Pete.

i have been going to the institute since it has opened. i only get my hair trimmed so what harm can they really do. when i had first started going there was very few students in each class and plenty of help from the teachers! now they just keep as many students as possible there isnt even enough space for them there is a longer waiting time and very little one on one help, the student is always rushing because there next client is already there before im done. i cant bealieve how something so nice and helpful has just turned into money and getting us in and out. i miss the true aveda experience . i liked helping the students out to practice and having them feel comfortable but now im sick n tired of feeling like cattle they just get us in and out and take our money .also a student had filled me in that they are now paying 18,000!!!dollars to attend and not even getting a good education also the students are treated unfairly the teachers are unorganized staff makes promises they cant keep and are very very disrespectful and unprofessional, i would not reccomend attending for lack of the true experience lack of respect and putting your money towards a slave shop!! i feel awful for those students and i will never attend again!!

I went to this salon after having a fairly good experience at the Chicago institiute. I have never had a haircut that was so disrespectful, and so painful, that I have left in tears. Although other people left with good-looking haircuts, Noella, a "master-class" student, completely ignored my request, made me stand still for a good half an hour while she fumbled around pushing my head side to side instead of just asking me to move, and even burned my scalp while blow-drying my hair into a dried up mess. It took her nearly TWO HOURS to trim my hair and trim up my old bangs to some awful looking flap of hair she flopped over to the side like something out of "Revenge of the Nerds," before she declared, "OK, you're done," and walked off somewhere. After leaving in tears, I was dragged back in for her instructor to "correct" the haircut, even though an actual correction would have meant starting over entirely. He managed to salvage the bangs, but my hair is still awful! I would have given negative stars, if that were possible. These people have been trained for this?

AVOID. Unless you believe in the Aveda philosophy 110% you're better off going to either Redken or Paul Mitchell in Tampa. You will be worked in a slave labor like fashion and you'll get the opportunity of paying $14,000 to do chores and receive minimal learning. The Aveda graduates I've known have had to retake the state boards multiple times due to lack of teaching in the basic principles needed to pass.

I went here to get a manicure and pedicure. Big mistake. The staff was obviously poorly trained in nailcare. I never saw a supervisor come in to inspect what was going on. My "nail tech" could not even apply nail polish correctly on my nails and didn't even clean my cuticles. I was explaining to them how to brush on polish. It took over 2 hours for a manicure so I gave up on a pedicure which I originally came for also. They said that they are really trained for hair, but everyone has to do 2 weeks in nails, so that is why they were there. Wish they tell you that ahead of time. It might be a fine place to get your hair cut, but it is NOT a place for nails. A big disappointment. You are better off paying a few dollars extra at Jcon.
