I love this place. It has been one of my favourite resturaunts for many years and feel that it is a shame that so many people dislike this place. I have had some so-so service there, but if you look at the amount of people these kids serve you too might be a little miffed. I LOVE the swiss steak and I find the prices to be quite resonable for the amount of food you get. I have NEVER finished a sandwich at this place! The Lucky Dill has been in our community for many years now and I hope that it continues to be so.

I am not from New York nor am I from Jewish background but I am next best. I was born and raised in Miami Beach by my mom who is from the old country, Bavaria. She was brought over to NY and employed by a Jewish family who owned a hotel. They transplanted to Miami Beach and my mom learned to cook authentic kosher cuisine. My dad, well, let's just call him Ricky Ricardo.....Mom always cooked my family kosher food.....and we loved it. Weekends were spent on Miami Beach, specifically, Wolfie's on 21 st......the famous gathering place of all the jewish population in Miami! New York style deli/restaurant for decades! Now....10 years ago I moved to the Tampa Bay area and I never thought I'd come even close to a place like Wolfie's, yet this past weekend I stumbled into the Lucky Dill to get away from the Ironman event where I recently moved to in Palm Harbor. What a delight! It was Wolfie's all over again!
Parking can be a problem. I was lucky that at 9 am I found the last spot in front....also construction next door in the plaza blocked off lots of otherwise available parking.
I came in for breakfast at 9 am, I ordered my favorite: cheese blintzes! Complimentary banana bread with citrus butter came out almost immediately with a complimentary carafe of OJ. Coffee was excellent. And when the blintzes arrived! I was in heaven. 5 cheese blinzes stuffed with romanoff cheese, strawberry preserves and sour cream AND fresh sliced strawberries. I was sitting right next to the bakery case and while I waited, my mouth watered for the pastries....when the blintzes arrived...THAT problem was solved.
It was very filling and I had to take 1/2 of it home. Now, I went in for breakfast and the reason I went in the first place was because my neighbor, who is from Minnesota saw a sign for Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds. They were not available for lunch....so we did the breakfast thing. He was disappointed so he just had a Bloody Mary. They have a full liquor bar on Saturday mornings!
I can't wait to go back on the weekend for lunch!

I came to this restaurant expecting to get a great meal with great service at an excellent price. Well 2 out of 3 ain't bad. The food was exquisite , but I have recieved better service at McDonald's on a busy Saturday night. They will not EVER have to worry about me or any of my friends and family darkening their doorstep again. This was my first and definately my last time at this establishment.

Just came back from Lucky Dill. Our waitress, Mallary gave us excellent attentive and helpful service. She recommended the braised lamb shank and we were not disappointed. I requested a caffeine free/diet drink and she was very helpful in steering me in the right direction with that.

She also advised us that if we ordered a drink with our meal we would receive a free dessert. I am all about the cheesecake and just loved it.

The food was excellent and the service was even better.

We will definitely be back

The sandwiches looked big and great...one cannot wait to take the first bite but what a disappointment...there was no flavour...nothing like the old NY deli taste that one goes back and back to. Their morning danish is very large and you say wow..about 6 inches in diameter...I had blueberry...what a disappointment again no flavour. Had corn beef and cabbage and carrots and red potatoes. I can cook corn beef better...no flavour...cabbage was under cooked..the knife was dull and could not cut it. The carrots were mushy and no flavour. They seem to think that by giving a big or a lot is great but i would go for smaller portions and food prepared with the right seasoning. They cover it up by giving you a free piece of cheese cake...by the way the cheese cake was good. It was busy but once you go you will not go back again.

We went there today 12/30 .. The food was ok. but the service was terrible .. Had to wait along time to get waited on. Then we asked for napkins and we waited so long i had to get up and get them my self. After the meal, we all used rest rooms. The ladies room was filthy. Dirty toilet tissues all over the floor and nothing to wipe our hands with, i didn't even use the toilet i was afraid it was not very clean. I heard the men's room was no better, My husband said it was a good thing he stood because he would sit on their toilets, thats how dirty it was in there. If the bathrooms aren't clean how clean do you think the cooking area is???? They better be glad i am not the Board of Health eating there. I do not reccomend this place to any one..

The Best Matza Ball Soup Cheese Cake and Pastries!

There is usually a 10-15 min. wait for a table during the week, noise level tends to be loud and the tables are close together.

Lucky Dill is reasonable and offers a wide variety on the menu,
the food is excellent and the portions are large. My husband's favorite is the Ruben and mine is Chopped Liver on rye and Matza ball soup.

I heard about the resaurant in a chatroom and was very surprised at the quanity, quality, service and price. I read a review from a southern lady and I truly feel sorry for her. I would highly reccomend this restaurant. Brough 1/2 sandwich home. Not Southern style hospitality but very friendly nothern hospitality. So if you don't like it its your loss and Southern hospitality is hard to find anymore. I speak as a retired trucker with many miles behind me
Anyway Go there enjoy the food

This is the best deli south of 212. They closed the Rascal house in Miami so now this is my favorite. I love the free Matzoh ball soup days and my favorite sandwhich is corned beef pastrami and chopped liver on marble rye. Spicy mustard and Kosher dill a must. Fish fry on Fridays is the best deal in town. You wont leave hungry and it wont cost more than 12-15 per person max. Waitresses are sometimes a little short, but its new york aint it. If youre looking to go to a quiet romantic restaurant this aint it either. The romance here is the cacaphony of a new york city symphony of Loud people, waitresses, phones, music, characters, and more. the only thing you don't hear is the horns of the cabbies. Amaze yourself in this Mecca of steaming lunchmeat!!! and bring me a Knish while youre at it. I'm Home!!!!

I had a taste for salad in a tacco shell, was happy to find it on the menu. When my salad
arrived, there were a few tortilla chips on the salad, the tomatoes looked like they were
cut days ago, the chicken was dry and tough. The waitress told me they must have been
out of tacco shells. Would have been nice to let me know, so I could have ordered something
else. The waitress didn't seem to care that most of my salad was left on the plate.
Very disapointed, will not go.

I have been going to Lucky Dill for about 11 yrs now, my parents started taking me there when I was about 12 yrs old. We have always had great food and I have tried almost everything on the menu (including all the pastrys and chessecake) The food is so good I started taking people from work there and clients who are visiting and no one has ever been dissapointed. The service varies over time and that has to do with the are, when it started all the employees were older and is was more like a mom and pop diner then a deli, once they moved to where they are now it started to feel more like a deli and it became so busy that many high schoolers began working there. If you go during lunch you will almost for sure have better service because the kids who work there are in school and even though lunch time is busy it does not compare to dinner. If you want to talk over dinner this is not the place to go it gets very loud but it is a lot of fun to see everyone having a good time and joking around. I almost always get my dinner to go and I am never dissapointed about that either, it is always just as good as eating there (and you can not say that about a lot of places). The prices are more then fair for what you get, I think it is the best deal around for a sit down meal, now the pastrys might seem a little expensive but there all worth it and here's a tip if your going to buy more then one piece of cheescake just go ahead and order a mini cheescake it is about the same price as two single slices and you can get 4 huge slices or 8 small slices out of it. They dont always have the mini cheescakes on display at the pastry counter but if you ask for one they will get it for you. Overall I really do enjoy this place it is not fancy by any standards and you may only see your server two to three times but you cant beat the food or the price.

I have been going to the Lucky Dill for years. Slowly things are getting worse. I see a lot of the same faces working there but it is like everyone hates life. I had an issue with my meal the last time I was there and one of the female servers that said she was the manager came to my table. She was awful. Everything she said sounded phony. We weren't looking for anything extra, just wanted to make them aware of our issue so it wouldn't happen to others. We could tell that as soon as she turned around she was rolling her eyes and trashing us to one of the other male servers. I still enjoy the food but if I have another instance like this one, I’m not likely to return.

I have been going to Lucky Dill for more than 4 years. Until 4 months ago I felt that I was getting a good bargain during the early bird specials. However, things changed for the worse. Now the food does not come in a timely manner. When extra fish is ordered with the meal, it doesn't come until I am ready to go home. It always came about ten minutes after I ordered it. What has happened? Also, I have been having a Big Apple Martini on those nights. The first ones came in a big glass and were filled to about a half inch from the top. Over the last four months, the drinks have been shrinking. When I questioned the server this last Friday, the manager came over to our table (which was sandwiched between two other couples) and exclaimed that after a "big meeting" it was determined that the servers were over filling the glasses. This week the drinks didn't even come up to an inch below the rim. If they are going to serve a martini in a big glass I think it should be filled up. Why don't they serve it in a smaller glass and make that one full. I also noticed that when ketchup was requested, it was brought to the table in a tiny paper cup (enough for about a dozen fries). Where are the bottles of ketchup on the tables?

WAITED 1/2 HOUR FOR FISH & FRIES. FRIES WERE LUKEWARM, FRIENDS FISH WAS LUKEWARM.
FISH WAS HARD TO FIND IN ALL THAT BATTER. COMPLAINT TO WAITRESS FOR HOT FISH FOR MY FRIEND WAS NOT SERVED FOR OVER 20MINUTES IN WHICH TIME MY FRIEND LOST HER APPETITE AND SAID FORGET IT. WAITRESS SAID SHE WOULD HAVE OUR BILL COMPED, BIG DEAL, $1.50 OFF THE BILL COULD NOT, AND NEVER WILL, MAKE UP FOR SUCH POOR SERVICE AND SUCH TERRIBLE FOOD.
THE RESTAURANT WAS NOT EVEN HALF FULL ON A FRIDAY EVENING, COULD THIS BE THE RESULT OF SUCH POOR SERVICE AND SUCH TERRIBLE FOOD?
SORRY TO SEE THIS HAPPENING, LUCKY DILL WAS ALWAYS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS BUT CANNOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE AT THE PRESENT TIME. HOPE IT IMPROVES.

When my stepdad steps out and raves about a restaurant, I know its good. The pickiest of all eaters, his two thumbs up are on a particular restaurant is equivalent to being acknowleged for a nobel peace prize. Yeah, it doesn't happen to often but when it does... I have to find out why. If you ever had a deli sandwich that is bigger than your mouth and wish that you had a flip top head in order to eat it... then you have been to the Lucky Dill. The sandwichs are huge, the menu has variety and the baked goods on your way out the door creates quite the temptation. This is a great lazy afternoon place to eat, a great place to bring your family (especially if your family likes to be reminded of the good ol' days in NY) and a place that will not leave hungry. Definitely try the matzo ball soup and a delicious reuben sandwich with a slice of heavely cheesecake.

We have enjoyed several Sunday morning breakfasts here. Absolutely excellent! We have never been disappointed, always consistant. The corned beef is the best and the staff are freindly and efficient as well. Love the mini bread loaf before breakfast. What a nice touch. We have been to several restaurants for breakfast in the Tampa Bay area and I would rate this one well above the rest.

The corned beef is the best and the staff are freindly and efficient as well. Love the mini bread loaf before breakfast. What a nice touch. We have been to several restaurants for breakfast in the Tampa Bay area and I would rate this one well above the rest.

Pros: food, staff

Cons: none

the food here is out of this world. the breakfasts are huge with a danish basket to start with. my favorites are the lunches. they also have a bakery inside!

I haven't had lunch here, but I can definitely vouch for the breakfast. Food comes with pastries and fruit, a nice touch that sets it apart from most breakfast joints. Prices are good, and I haven't been disappointed in the food yet.

The inside of the restaurant is nice but need improvement on the patio dining. Since there's not much competition in the area, it's consider good. Expected warm buns but was served cold.

I have seen reviews that state that this place is the best New York deli in Tampa Bay. The reviewers must have been paid off by the Albertson's food store. Why you ask? I had a turkey ruben which has sliced turkey, saurerkraut, and russian dressing.
The turkey was $2.99 a pound Jenny O from Albertson's, a can of kraut, and wish bone dressing.
The cole slaw on the side was right of Albertson's.
What happened to REAL sliced turkey, kraut fresh, or out of a bag, mixing mayo, catsup, relish, to make the dressing, and making real fresh cole slaw.
I was horrified at the bill....a N.Y ripoff.

Been there on multiple occassions. My favorite is the soup & 1/2 sandwich. I like the hot corned beef on rye. Fast, courteous employees; wonderful food; very reasonable price. This is a restaurant worthy of "repeat visits".

Visit 9-1-02; fboitalia1 got it right. Busy! Noisy! Crowded! That's deli ambience. Lucky Dill Wine & Fern Bar? No. Best Kosher deli food (so far) in the Bay area. Used to NY or Chicago corned beef? Order the pastrami here. Get a better pickle, it's not quite right. Get rid of that food processor cold slaw! Consistency of cream of wheat and too sweet. Tuna salad sandwich, great. How about a bowl of chicken NOODLE or clear broth. Chicken veg on both visits was very salty. Keep that wait staff! The sandwich size was a true deli experience (much larger than on our last visit, Jan. '02 but the prices went up a little also). If I want a Ruban that's two slices of beef and the cook sat on it, I'll go to one of thousands of 'Early Bird $4.95 special' joints in the area. I'll be back.

Lucky Dill has the best food and service. They will do whatever it takes to keep the customer happy. They serve enormous portions but the food if you don't finish you'll take it home and have yet another meal out of it. Don't forget the dessert onthe way out!!

The best NY-Style Jewish Deli on the West Coast of Florida. Always enjoy the pastrami on rye, great matzoh ball soup-- lots of chicken and veggies, good chopped liver and onions, real NY attitude, nice looking restaurant. It's not the Carnegie or Katz's though. They need to serve dills and half sours on the table like in NY (I mean the name is the lucky DILL). Desserts are alright, not great. The place is always mobbed, so go at off hours or be prepared to wait a long time. They're obviously doing a lot right, but if they add the pickle platter, they'd have it made.
