Something I learned a long time ago is that every used book store is a bit different and Mandala Books is no exception. Although some of their better quality items are a bit over priced, you won't find a larger selection of ...let's say "popular" literature in the area. As one reviewer noted, you'll find some poor qality books in Mandala's inventory, but you'll also find some good quality used and sometimes new books at a good price. So, whether you're looking for a cheap book for a quick read or a good quality used book for your collection Mandala Books is worth the "look see."

I travel all over and love to visit used bookstores wherever I go, I love to support used bookstores but it pains me to write that I will never frequent this bookstore again. They do have a large selection of books, but most of them are double and triple copies of poor quality and in poor condition. What few good titles in decent condition I found were drastically overpriced. The proprietor of this store is the most condescending and rude person I have ever dealt with in a second hand bookstore. Don't waste your time on Mandala Books. There is a much better shop around the corner, I forget the name of the shop, it is smaller but the selection is far superior and the people running the place were very pleasant and helpful.

Mandala Books is perhaps the largest of the antiquarian book stores in the Daytona Beach area, and with the greatest longevity. The store offers a cozy environment for shopping, jazz music on the cd player, posters and art prints here and there decorating the shelves, and before the fire marshals got involved, the air was always full of incense smoke. That gives you an idea of the type of place this is: a little scholarship, the humanities, and a sprinkle of something beatnik or counter-culture. Victor, the owner, has, and I think unintentionally, definitely created a ceratin definite vibe in his store.
Victor knows his books as well, and has dedicated a rather impressive first addition room to the rear of the building, always something to behold for bibliophiles!
My favorite sections of the Mandala have always included the philosophy, religion, psychology, and occult sections, in which Ive never been able to stumble upon something I have not yet heard of, or was unable to locate elsewhere.
Concerning prices, most used books are sold at half there original cover prices. As for first additions, and collectibles, Ive found that Victor frequently sells at much lower prices than the standard appraisal value.
