I'd read the reviews of this salon and was a little apprehensive about going. However, after getting another bad haircut at a chain salon I decided to give it a try. I found pictures of the haircut I wanted and took them with me. What a surprise when Shane actually cut my hair exactly to the picture and the way I wanted. He even made it easier to work with all my cowlicks - a feat no one has ever accomplished. The atmosphere is very laid back so if you're into pretentious snobbery you shouldn't go. Otherwise, you won't find a better cut at the price anywhere else. Thank you Shane for restoring my faith in Orlando stylists.
There is a reason Orlando Magazine has voted this place the BEST salon in town multiple years' running. Tony is amazing at what he does. Seth and Shane are experts, and I will never go anywhere else because of these guys. CAUTION: this is not your mother's salon! It is eclectic, fun, a bit crass and offensive at times, but ALWAYS a great experience. Feel free to bring your favorite beverage of choice, but make sure you have enough to share. You will not regret going here; in fact, you may find yourself getting more cuts and color than before just for the experience!! My hair has never looked so good, and I owe it all to Tony, "King of all Hairdressers!"
Time for you to experience what a real Stylist can do! Shine Stylists are experienced, innovative and they "get it"!
Not sure what you're looking for? Let the Shine Stylists help! They know hair! They take what they do seriously and they are consistantly educating themselves on the newest trends & products to ensure they stay a cut above, they have Talent and Passion to help you look your absolute best. There is no such thing as a good haircut....It's the expertise of your Stylist! Personally, I have only found that kind of expertise and that's at SHINE. Time for you to give them a call 407-325-1281. You will Never be disappointed
I've been going to Tony for almost 10 years now and am hooked. My appointments are always in the evening after work. I walk in there completely stressed out, but the stylists are so entertaining that I always leave with a huge smile on my face. Oh -- and they're all damn good at what they do too! ;)
I have a pretty relaxed attitude about hair - it always grows back - so I have been repeatedly disappointed when over the years I have gone to salons and told them to give me the cut they thought would best suit me, and I have given a bob, without fail. It's not like it really was the cut that looked best; it was just simple and safe. So when I went to Shine and gave Tony the same carte blanche, I was delighted when he started looking through style books with me, suggesting cuts he thought would look good, and gauging how adventurous I was actually willing to be. With thought and insight he combined his knowledge with my desires and I ended up with the best cut of my life. Not only the best cut, but also the best color. It's sometimes hard to pull off being a little funky, while still maintaining the professional look necessary for work, but Tony did just that with my cut and color. Come to think of it, that's just how I would describe Shine - a perfect blend of funky-ism and professionalism! Go - you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Fun place to be, great color, great cut
Best Orlando Hair Salon .... Why?
Shine Hair Salon cuts through the pretentious BS and just does great hair. Not concerned with selling you the latest and greatest product, they do have what you need but only if you need it. This place is about the quality of the service they provide. You won't find any kids (too young to have any experience) asking each other how to mix the right hair color or looking for "someone that knows". Here, they ALL know what they are doing. No debates or testing. You don't need to worry about being someones guinea pig. Shane for example has been a stylist for at least the 10 or 12 years I have known him. Now that's experience. As for Tony the Salon's owner, I would guess he has at least that much time behind the scissors.
Best Orlando Hair Salon without question.
Pros: Personal Attention, Years of Experience, Attention to Detail
Cons: Location offers many local drink temptations for after cut
I can't say enough fabulous things about Shine Salon.
Tony the hair Guru is AWESOME...The entire staff is on top of their game!
Shannon is a definite value add to the salon, she is the most AMAZING esthetician.
I highly recommend this salon to anyone ready to transform from drab to FAB!!!
p.s. this isn't a salon for the "wet blanket" type or perhaps this might be just what, you need...
Pros: when you leave you'll look amazing
Cons: maybe a few cons are clients...so? They have wild stories...
The decor in the salon is very fun and creative. The staff are friendly and keep hours that are accommodating to clients. I had color and highlights recently and love the results. Tony was awesome!
Pros: Great color
I walked into Shine with tragic home lightened hair. My hair felt like it was going to crumble from my head to the floor. I was terrified of my future. Not to mention that my hair was horrific hybrid shade of orangish, pink, with some nice platinum roots. Tony was purely amazing.
First he really listened to what my ultimate goal and did not try discourage me. My favorite part of the overall process that he severely improved my hair's actually state. My hair felt healthier and completely manageable. My hair color was gorgeous and full of dynamic blonde shades. Tony exceeded any blonde image I had in my mind's eye. FABULOUS, FABULOUS,FABULOUS!!!!!
Pros: I was really taken care and pricelessly happy.
I have gone here several times to get my haircut by Rachelle, and every time it comes out great! Very entertaining place, it isn't your typical hair salon. Very fun environment and people are really easy to talk to.
This is not the place for you if you need to go to your wine tasting after, and then feed your dog some $100 a lb meat you imported from Italy. This place is fun, conversations get can get raunchy, but still professional. It feels more like you are hanging out with friends while you get professional styling rather than going to a Super Cuts and just go in and your out.
Highly recommend this place and Rachelle!
Pros: Awesome service, great listeners, great haircuts
Cons: Maybe hard to find, not very obvious to spot.
i went in with Black dye from a box off the shelf, and Rachelle was able to not only get it out in half the time i expected it to take, but she also managed to bring it to an amazingly beautiful color with highlights as well, and left my hair feeling softer and more conditioned than it ever felt before.
i found the atmosphere in Shine to be awesome; they stylists are very chill and yet very professional, as well, and considering how much time i spent in the salon that day, i'd say they did an awesome job keeping me entertained and making sure that i had everything that i needed.
I live in Lake Nona and couldn't find a good salon near by, so I decided to make the trek out to Shine after reading so many good reviews. I called several times before I was able to speak to someone. Seth answered the phone and booked me for the next day. He is an absolute sweetheart. He listens to what you envision for your hair, then offers his suggestions. I had a wonderful time getting my hair cut there. He is very meticulous and knows what he's doing for sure. The place is definitely unique and eclectic...maybe a little too weird for some, but the staff are great. No yuppies allowed here...this is an upscale salon for down to earth people. :)
Anyways, my hair came out fabulous and the price is excellent. I will definitely come back.
Oh yea, word of advice, IGNORE the mapquest directions if you're coming from I4. Part of Park Lake St. is closed for construction for some time, so the easiest way to get there is taking east colonial (SR50) and making a right onto Mills, then it's literally about 2 blocks down on your right, you'll see park lake st. You'll see a little building with a british flag on it. :)
Pros: Upscale salon for down to earth people
Cons: They could do a better job at answering the phone
After reading reviews on Citysearch, I tried Shine a few years ago, after having spent years getting my hair cut in New York or Los Angeles. Without a doubt, Rachelle at Shine gave me the best haircut of my life, and I've been a devotee ever since. She has an incredible sense of what works for each of her custumers, but she's also a wonderful listener and does a great job of incorporating customer suggestions/requests. Each time I visit Shine, I'm even happier than I was on the last visit. In short, Rachelle is a genius -- as are the rest of the hairdressers there, all of whom are extremely friendly and talented. In addition to normal cuts, Rachelle has also styled my hair for photo shoots and national TV appearances; I couldn't be happier with her wonderful work, and I'd recommend her to anyone!!
Pros: GREAT style, reasonable price, fun environment
I left a positive comment before, but I am retracting it due to an exceptionally bad experience I had this week. I received a sub-par style and color from Rachelle, which I confirmed with another experienced professional stylist. When I explained the errors made with the style, the stylist denied that any of them were true, and essentially blamed me for what happened to my hair.
So far, the salon has failed to reimburse me for the work that was done, or for damages. They explained this was not their policy after the fact.
On September 3rd, Rachelle scheduled a follow-up discussion with me to finish our discussion that she did not honor. I left a message for the manager that night - no return call. Now I'm reading comments that suggest that she warned me and I forced her to do the style against her advice - this is not true, and my respect for Rachelle and Shine has dropped even lower. Avoid this salon and stylist - not reputable.
Cons: Unprofessional, poor work, no refunds, combative
Just so you don't think this salon is only for those looking for funky cut/color, I am a 45-year old professional (and mom to a 5-year old), and I can't have a crazy cut/color in my line of work. The stylists at Shine are very versatile and have the skills to make everyone look great!
I have lived many places in the US (big cities and small towns) and every time I move I search long and hard for a new salon & stylist. When it comes to my hair, I am not a bargain shopper -- I don't care what it costs me as long as the results are good. In spite of this, usually I can't find anywhere that I would go to more than once. This is not the case with Shane @ Shine. He always does an amazing job and I feel like a million bucks when I walk out! I just went 2 weeks ago -- cut and highlights. When my 68-year old mother saw the results, she decided to dump her old salon that she has been going to for years and try Shane.
I never write on-line reviews, but I felt I had to because the last review was neither accurate nor fair. All the stylists at Shine are wonderful, kind people with, yes, odd/crazy senses of humor. I personally love the laid-back, friendly, home-like atmosphere. I hate those uptight salons where you feel like you need to dress up and do your hair/make-up before you go. If you are looking for a salon that offers you snobbery, high prices and wine/espresso, this is definitely not the place for you. Although, Shane always has fresh coffee ready when I go in for my morning appointments..... ;-)
Pros: Cool bohemian feel, stylists are the best, easy to make an appt., no pressure to buy product
I have been here a few times, mainly because their prices are cheaper relatively speaking. However, the "stylist" never did what I asked him to do, and better yet he cut my hair uneven. The staff are immature, their foul language is a turn-off, they don't offer beverages, their bathroom is a "joke". Needless to say, I am no longer a patron. I would rather spend the extra money and get a real haircut. Luckily, there are reputable salons all over Orlando that offer decent prices as well. Skip Shine.
Cons: Don't answer phone, don't open on time, don't cut hair well, not personable, etc. etc. etc.
I want to recommend Shine to Everyone in search of fabulous hair! This salon is unlike any I've ever been in before and you'll likely say the same. From the moment you step through the door till it closes behind you on your way out, be prepared to experience jovial banter between everyone, clients and stylists.
The owner, Tony, and all the stylists share a pure enjoyment for making you look good and have an unrivaled rapport with each other. This relationship spills over to each client. The atmosphere ranges between eclectic conversation and raucous party but never ever is it staid or prissy. Be prepared to have fun.
Tony is not only one of the most talented stylists in Orlando, the team he has assembled in Rachelle, Seth and Shane are 'shear' genius. Add Shannon, the esthetician to the mix and be prepared to be dazzled.
Go get a cut, color or a complete style. You may even go for a relaxing facial. It doesn't matter, just do yourself a favor and GO!
I found this salon on CitySearch. Only a few negative comments and many positive. SO...I set the appointment with Tony and I have found my new salon! He is awesome, funny, witty, and does a mean job on the hair!! Love it! I had a cut, color, and one big blonde highlight, and left happy as a kid with candy. The salon is so fun, lots of unique and creative things to look at...the staff seems like they really love each other with all the quick and quirky banter. I will go to Tony as long as he has a salon in Orlando. Thanks for the good reviews from the other Shine customers! I found gold.
Pros: Skill level high, great atmosphere, and fun staff!
ok, I am not someone who is overly concerned with other peoples' opinions, but when my boyfriend kept making jokes about my amateur haircut, i figured it was time for a change. After all, I am not a student anymore. Still, I hate the idea of an uptight salon with a lot of pretentious people who only care about appearances. It is inside what counts. So, I ran into this stylist at a local bar, and he convinced me to stop by. On a whim I di. The stylist I had met, Tony, was booked for the day, but he assured me one of his co-workers could do the job. Seth was not at all what I expected. I am actually pretty sure he is straight! Still, he listened to me, asked questions about the person I was, and what I liked. He wasn't surprised that I hadn't been to a salon before (I used to cut my own hair in the mirror), but realized that I had no idea what I wanted. He took control, and I was stunned! I had a smart, cool cut, but not one that looked like I was an uptight society girl. He gave me tips on how to style it myself, and they actually worked!
I have to admit, maybe going to a professional wasn't such a bad idea. The topper is, my boyfriend loved it!!
It also didn't destroy my budget. The whole experience was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll have to go back and test whether Seth is straight. Just don't tell my boyfriend!!
I moved here3 three years ago, and since then had been looking for a decent stylist. I came from a big city, and was disappointed with the pedestrian cuts I received. I was beginning to believe that Orlando was really a small town masquerading as a city. Then, I was referred to Shine. I was skeptical when I saw their ads - seemed too over the top. But I took a chance. What did I have to lose? I must say I was stunned at the style I received from Tony - the proprietor. He listened to my ideas, offered a few of his own, and the result was what I was used to in NYC - at a fraction of the price! I couldn't believe I had found such a stylist here! I heartily recommend the salon - you won't get a better cut and style for the price. Orlando is fortunate to have such an accomplished professional.
The service was okay. I felt that there was too much talking amoungst themselves than interaction with their clients. I got extensions and a cut done there and almost $600 later my head was sore from the stylist tugging so damn hard (which apparently they aren't supposed to do). For the four hours I was there, the stylist talked with me maybe twice. The place is a dump and the employees like to to share personal stories (too personal if you ask me) with each other. If you like being ignored go to shine.
First of all I love Tony with all my heart. I have been getting my hair cut with him for 7 years now. I moved to NYC 3 years ago and STILL fly down to orlando to get my hair cut and coloured. When I come back New Yorkers ask me where I got my hair done... The music, decor, and even the staff are outrageous. The staff each decorate their own stations, and really express their personalities. If you want a nice relaxing hair cut with some aromatherapy, this place is NOT for you. If you are opposed to having your hair washed under a guillotine then don't come here. Prepared to make friends, and even plans for an evening during the week. Located right outside downtown Orlando, the staff knows everyone and will not hesitate to drag you along for a drink or 12. :) They have a full range of products, but unless you ask you wont even be bothered with the idea of purchase. Shine is very fairly priced as well. Stuffy housewives need not apply as customers- The staff aren't mindreaders either, as you will read when you sign a user agreement with Tonman. Speak up- be specific in what you want, and if youre ever unhappy just tell them and they will make it right.. afterall if it doesnt shine, they didnt do it :P
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, lively staff, great music
Cons: can't think of any!
Went to Shine for the first time with my friend and loved every minute of the experience! We loved the art on the walls, the eclectic atmosphere, and the music! It was so different than anywhere we had ever been, and really relaxing. The highlights we got came out really well, totally what we were hoping for! Tony took the time to show me some styling techniques for my hair, which I've been practicing and I've been getting better! The whole concept of the salon was bad-ass, from the art to the way all of the hairdressers work together. It is such a difference getting hair done from people who you can really tell truly love what they do. Anyway, we've found our new spot, and we're totally spoiled now!
Cindy and Beth
Pros: art, really funny and hot hairdressers, something to look at everywhere in the salon, no pressure to buy products, not too pricey
Cons: none whatsoever
One word can be used to explain my experience at Shine, EXCELLENT! I'm sure every woman in the world has felt the way I was feeling yesterday. Hurt, betrayed and heartbroken. Well, as most good girlfriends do in a case like this my friend Carrie took me to meet the most amazing man I've ever met in my life. Minutes after meeting me (might I remind you this was Sunday evening when everyone else is closed) Tony rushed me away to the salon for "hair therapy: My hair was complete "virgin" hair but just by meeting Tony for those short few minutes I knew I could trust him. I'm not really sure how long it took to make this miracle on my head because the conversation and laughter was flowing the whole time. Not only would I recommend that everyone visit Tony at Shine, I would have to insist on it! Not only did I find a great stylist but a new friend. Thanks Tony for making a horriable day a lot more bearable. See you soon!
Pros: Tony Tony Tony
Cons: not a one
Not only is he entertaining, but Tony is one of the best hairdressers ever. Very funky atmosphere, great music, but most of all I walked out with beautiful, luscious hair color and a stylish cut. I have been at Shine for a couple of years and I have never been disappointed. Bring your open mind and tresses--Shine will not disappoint!!!
Pros: Expertise, coloring, great price, friendly people
I thought Shine was a great experience! Seth was my hair dresser and he did a FABULOUS job! I have received tons of compliments and my husband LOVES it! I went from a washed out dirty blonde with highlights to a rich dark chocolate brown. He also gave my hair a trim and believe it or not he did what I asked him to do!!! I tan indoors and I thought that my color would fade ridiculously but it still looks great! Thank you Seth! I wanted to share my experience because it seems to be that "a certain other" has what I think to be a nasty, and unfounded oppinion of this salon! This salon is different yes, however if you like fun, funky, artsy casual atmospheres, than this is the salon for you. By the way---the floors are NOT dirty! They have beautifull hardwood floors and yes, if you are getting your hair cutt, there might be some "HAIR" on the floor! Everyone at Shine does have a personality so be prepared for fun and interesting conversation.
Pros: Tons of Artistic Talent, Great Personalities, Unique Atmosphere
Cons: None come to mind
Shine is unusual, I was not sure what to expect. I was very pleased with the results, though. I love my hair, and will certainly go back! The atmosphere was crazy but still soothing. Thumbs up, kid!
I'm not sure where some of these reviews are coming from but I can tell you my experience at Shine.
I found Shine after I got sick of my high-priced hair salon downtown. I found them on CitySearch. Seth was my stylist and I loved him from the first moment he touched my hair. Yes, these people have inside jokes and yes they talk. So what? So, you were left alone while your hair was being done. Um, hellooo, if you need to make friends, go downtown to a bar, don't go to a salon. If you feel like you need company at a salon, please bring a friend next time.
The salon was colorful to say the least. Everyone there had such comradarie. I have to say Seth was probably the quietest one, and that didn't bother me. I personally like to relax while I'm at a salon, not have my ear yakked off. Yes there was hair on the floor. NEWSFLASH: IT'S A SALON. If Tony cleaned off a chair, what is wrong with that? Would you rather sit on a dirty chair?
Ok, I'll stop badmouthing comments and cut to the chase. I wanted my bangs pink and omigod.....MY HAIR WAS PINK. It was great, perfect, and straightened just the way I like it. I know what it's like to walk out of a salon and not be happy. My advice: If you aren't happy, open your mouth. Most reputable salons will fix it for free, even the next day. I haven't had to heed my own advice however because both times I've visited Shine I've had a wonderful experience with no complaints.
I don't miss my hauty-tauty salon at all. These people are fun, eclectic, and crazy. If you are feeling left out of their conversations, just jump in. But it's best to eavesdrop in.....their nightlife stories are pretty effin funny.
I will confinue to go to Shine and remain an avid Seth follower. I have referred two girlfriend and one guy friend in need to this salon, and they have all had wonderful experiences. Some need snootie stylists...I'm going to stick to these down-2-earth people. Love you guys!!!
Pros: Fun staff, good prices, happy atmosphere
Cons: Clean out that ashtray out back already!! HA HA!!!
most of the reviews of SHINE mention the funky atmosphere.... it is a fun place to enter, but that's where the fun and humor stops !! first off, there is NO receptionist so you just walk into this house and are immediately confronted with the characters there. tony, my stylist, walked over, introduced himself and then had to clean his chair so i could sit down. we talked about my hair, he left to mix the color and came back and asked me how i found the salon... that was the last thing he said to me !! from that point on, he and the other 2 stylists laughed and spoke loudly about the events of the previous night, where they were going that night, joking about inside jokes, all the while using curse words and filty language. i was ignored the entire time i sat there with the color on my hair, enduring their obnoxious behavior. looking around i couldn't help but notice the thick dust and wads of hair along the baseboards !! after a quick wash, tony asked me how i liked my hair and i said, straight. he proceeded to dry my hair (while talking on the telephone!!!!) and then announced, "OK darling, you're done !" so i left with frizzy ends, no product in my hair, my hair parted on the wrong side and by the way, my color was just average !!! i have never been treated so rudely, been exposed to such crude behaviours and the place should be shut down. this is the first time i did an online search thru citysearch and it will be my last .
Cons: dirty surroundings, rude personnel
Shine has a fun and relaxed atmosphere, a little excentric with fun-loving stylists, the best place to be! I found the salon through CitySearch. When I called to make an appointment I got the Saturday that I wanted. I scheduled an appointment with Rachelle. I'm very picky about my hair. I went into the salon, not knowing what kind of style I wanted. Rachelle sat down with me and discussed with me the time I wanted to spend styling it, the length, and the colour. I sat down in her chair and she started picking up my hair and talked to me about all the possibilities. We had decided on a style and a colour. Oh, by the way, she gives a great shampoo! I'm a professional, but I also like to go out and party as well. We decided on a style that would be fun, yet great for work. I never had as many compliments on my hair EVER! Not only is she a great stylist, but she is great at colours as well.[That girl knows her colours!] I'm so glad I found her. I will never go to anyone else. Rachelle truly is the best hairstylist ever.
Pros: Talented and Fun Stylists, Reasonable Pricing, Relaxing Atmostphere
I love Shine, I'll say it over and over if I have to. I love the stylists there. Rachelle, being my favorite. I came in on Friday desperately needing my hair cut and coloured. I was extremely comfortable, and had a great laugh. I love it there, it's just a fun atmosphere. Sure, they have conversations amongst themselves, but you need to JUMP IN the conversation, not sit there angrily. It's just a fun place to be. Back to the hair cut: It got chopped off to a shorter length, just above my shoulders.[Just as I asked] And it just looks fabulous. Rachelle's a great hair stylist.
Pros: Shane's amazing skills on the pole, Stylists, Fun 24/7
Cons: None at all :]
First, let me say that I very seldom go to hair salons because I've had some horrible experiences in the past. I approached this visit at Shine with optimism because of all the great reviews I read on citysearch. I've had two visits and both have been super fantastic. Tony's English accent and wit is mesmerizing and most importantly, he knows hair. I got exactly what I asked for. My hair is a long, thick and curly and he handled it with grace. The first visit, I had my hair trimmed. The second visit a color and trim. Awesome, awesome, awesome...is the best way to describe the results. I felt even better when I got compliments. Shine has definitely won me over. I highly recommend this salon. Everyone in the salon is fun loving and the atmosphere is great. The price is VERY reasonable as well. If you don't like you color or hair cut, Tony always welcomes feedback. A customer for life. Merci!
Pros: convenient hours, price, quality service
I went to Shine based on the reviews from this site and had a great time. I had an appointment with Seth and made one for my husband as well. The place is very hip looking but the nice part, it's NOT pretentious! That was really refreshing, especially for Orlando. I was greeted right away, everyone was very nice and it's a very casual feel to the place. Seth did a fantastic job on my hair and my husband's hair came out perfect. For the first time since I've known him he is actually going back to the same hairstylist within the correct time period! No really, this is amazing! He actually told me yesterday that he liked the haircut so much he wants to maintain it! Seth, you are amazing!
Pros: Customer Service, Talent, Atmosphere
Let me preface this by saying I have thin, very curly hair and lots of it (I know it sounds like it doesn't go together, but hey), so I am very, very scared of getitng my hair cut because every stylist tries to cut it as if it were straight. I went to Shine based on reviews here (I called on a Wednesday and got an appt for that day). I asked for someone who could cut curly hair, and got Shane. When I walked in, I felt comfortable immediately (it looks like a regular house on the outside but the inside looks really cool). Shane talked to me for a couple minutes about what I wanted, and next thing I knew he was grabbing bits of my hair (it was still dry and looked like it did when I had walked in) and cutting it. I was skeptical at first, but eventually a style emerged that I loved! The best part about it was that I knew it would look the same when I styled it myself, since he didn't cut it wet. He only took about 20 mins too, so I asked him to do my eyebrows as well, which turned out just like I wanted (my only instructions were "Not too thin!"). Overall, I love the cut and the eyebrows, and the service and prices were great. I will definately be going to Shine again (and I never go to the same salon twice since I hadn't found one that I liked).
Pros: Prices, skill of stylists, customer service.
Cons: Location (for me, at least)
Every girl knows how important it is to have perfect hair on her wedding day.
This is why I spent hours and a lot of $ perfecting my up and coming wedding
day do. I did everything they tell you to do: go to your regular stylist,
bring pictures in, get a pre-wedding day council, color and cut a few weeks
before the big day... Well, with all this pre-wedding diligence, the last thing
I thought would happen was to be kicked out of my own salon and told to do my
hair and my bridesmaids hair myself, because my stylist didn't have time to
finish our hair. He had overbooked! So, trying to hold it together, I
frantically called every Salon in town. Finally, I remembered a salon that I
had been to only a few times before, but had always liked...SHINE.
Unfortunately Shine was booked for the afternoon, but after hearing the
desperation in my voice, I was told, "well, just come on in and I will see what
I can do." Hope at last. My bridesmaid/daughter's hair was obviously the worst
of the two, so I gave her the spot. After taking out the 5 pony tails
sprouting from her head, washing the glitter hair spray, yes glitter hair
spray, from her hair, she was transformed into the elegant bridesmaid we
intended her to be. I was grateful. Knowing that the stylist didn't have time
for me, I clumsily tried to pin my hair with the accessories that I had brought
and figure out how to attach the veil. To my delight, I was told to sit down
in a chair and not worry about a thing. Within moments, I was the beautiful
bride I had always wanted to be. My relief, excitement and deep gratitude was
insurmountable. Digging into my wallet I asked for the charge. My new hero
and favorite stylist, knowing that I had already forked out over $150 at the
Salon from Hell I had previously been at, gave me a wink and said "my wedding
present to you." I was dumfounded. Not only was I saved by SHINE on my
wedding day, but also spared the double cost of my wedding day do! Thank you
so much SHINE, you have my undying loyalty and appreciation!
At first the funky look of the salon almost sent me home but they are excellent with hair. It was alot of fun getting my hair done and the owner of the salon really has a passion for hair. It shows in his quality work. I am finally happy with my hair and after 4 months, still getting compliments.
Pros: Staff's Fun Personalities and Talent for Hair
Cons: Ecclectic kind of mish mash Greenwich Village Art
At Shine you can get a great cut (haven't had any other services yet) and feel like you're at a party at your friend's house. The stylists are so laid back and fun. There's an energy at Shine that you can feel. Rachelle is AWESOME!
Shane did an amazing job on my wife's hair. We just moved to Altamonte Springs, and she was nervous about having her hair colored by someone new. The color is absolutely stunning. He changed her from a blond to a fabulous redhead. She came home in a great mood.
Pros: Parking, Service
Called first, and the owner told me that a particular male stylist would be the best to do a 'razor cut'...brought a picture of my last haircut (Philly) which I loved...I felt rushed the entire 40 minutes I was there - he didn't go into any detail about what I liked in specific areas of my hair - neckline, sides, back ....starting cutting with a razor instead of doing the haircut with a scissors and texturizing with a razor...and ended up cutting one side of my bangs much shorter than the other side - really looks stupid...have been waiting for over a month for this to grow out so I can get a cut to fix his damage. In general, my hair just doesn't lay right in any area - no compliments, etc...can't believe I paid so much plus tip for this!
Cons: Rushed, Poor haircut, Poor Communication
after doing research i thought this was the one. my stylist i scheduled with was sick so stacey who apparently had a hangover took over. i asked for a simple partial highlight (caramel) and cut and i received the worst chopped up mess ever and to add injury to that orange highlights that were breaking off! if i were in this business i think i would never let someone leave looking the way i did! i went home in tears $110 poorer and i had to have all my hair cut off and recolored later that week. my hair is still damaged 8 months and several trims later. i wouldn't leave a bad comment about a business but when i saw all the positive comments it seemed i had no choice after what they did. BEWARE!!!
Cons: arrogant staff, no pride in work, overpriced
I went to Shine after reading all of the reviews here on city search. I called on a Friday and was offered a same day appointment even though I had to pass. Went to the salon on Saturday. Once I entered the salon with my 9 year daughter the fun never stopped. I am never quite pleased with my haircut and I am totally amazed with this haircut that I told Shane to do as he pleased with just not to cut my length. Considering how good the cut was and from what skill I had seen in the salon I was wondering what my tab would be and when I checked out I was pleasantly suprised at the price. Much cheaper than some of the other top rated salon's in Orlando. My daughter and I can't await our next trip. Keep up the great work Shane.
Pros: Skill, Price, Atmosphere
Hip and upbeat! I love this place! I first came to Shine through the recommendation of my neighbor. I had just come from another salon where I had a horrible color and cut. My hair needed fixing desparately. Tony did an amazing job and is a fantastic colorist. They're able to do anything from corporate styles to cutting-edge. The stylists really want you to look fabulous and sexy!
Pros: Fun Conversation, Relaxed Atmosphere, Good magazines!
This was my first time visiting Shine. My friend referred me because I just moved to Orlando and wasn't sure where to go to get my hair done. The salon is amazing. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. The staff is awesome and prices are reasonably priced. My hair turned out great thanks to Rhonda. She's great! Thank you Shine!
every time I look at my hair after having experienced the artistry, the skill, and of course, the comedic extravaganza that is Shine. I've been a client of Shane's for the last few years and have also dabbled in a bit of Tony action. Both are fantastic at what they do and from what I've seen their counterparts do with other clients, I am certain that EVERY Shine stylist is extraordinarily talented. They truly are THE BEST salon in town.
As an extra special bonus, they're super laid back, have reasonable pricing and they all know how to work a stipper pole. Hot with two T's.
Go to them. Do it now.
Pros: Skill, Stylists, Pricing
I have been a client at Shine for over 7 years. My experience is always unique, never dull and definitely entertaining!! I bring my 11 year old there now who has become attached to my stylist Shane. I have never walked out of there with a bad hair cut, color, eyebrow wax or highlight. I am and always have been extremely picky about my hair and that is why I have made Shine my choice of salon for the last 7 years. They get it right every time! My sister-in-law is a hair dresser, I could get my hair done for free - however, I choose to go to Shine and pay for their services as it's worth every dime. I love you guys!! Thanks for being the best in Orlando!! :O)
I was introduced to Shine by my best friends. Their enthusiasum and wonderful Shine expirences would lead me to Shine also. Being multiracial can be difficult for an ameture stylist. Shane was outstanding! He knew exactly what to do with my chemically straightened hair. He's a PRO along with every stylists here at Shine. It doesn't even appear to be work for Shane. Only true artists are found here! I haven't had a real "hair-cut" since I was about 8yrs. old. Shane knew exactly what to do. My hair turned out to be breathtakingly beautiful and I have NEVER EVER gotten SO many compliments on it in my entire life! The whole ambiance and atmosphere was absolutly fabulous! I will never get my hair cut anywhere else. Much gratitude to Shane and all of the wonderful people at Shine who keep me bright and beautiful!!! xoxoxo
Pros: talented stylists, positive&fun ambiance, wonderful overall
Cons: none, none, none
The first time I went, the owner cut my hair. He was an hour late, reeked of alcohol, and bad haircut.
The second time I went Shane was going to cut my hair at 10:30 a.m., he's outside, and he says, "I locked my keys inside, and I called the owner, but he's not answering, ya know he probably went out last night, let's reschedule."
So I idiotically reschedule. With Shane. After waiting for an hour, I finally get my haircut, and it is horrible. It made me put a hat on.
Getting your haircut is a great self esteem builder, and these pretentious no talent wannabes don't have what it takes. Same goes for Alchemy (overpriced and bad), and David James in Thorton Park.
The best place I have gone is La Nouveu in Tampa down by Hyde Park, and I will make the drive for a stylin' cut!
Cons: Extremely late, Extremely pretentious, Arrogant
I am very pleased with my experience. I am very picky about my hair and I am so happy with the results. Tony has a great personality and he is great with hair! You will leave feeling fabulous and sexy. Everyone working there was friendly and fun. I will definately be back.
Pros: fun, friendly staff
Cons: Nothing obvious
stacey and tony are the best. i had my hair straightened at SHINE. stacey and tony were incredibly professional and my hair looks FANTASTIC! it took quite a few hours, and the company - stacey & tony - and the atmosphere - cool music, fun magazines, great people - were wonderful. i can't think of a better place to spend an afternoon. i am so happy that i did this. my gracious thanks to stacey and tony. i love you and i love my hair!!!!!!
Pros: professional, fun, relaxing
My friend was getting married and found Shine through Citysearch. Very groovy looking place but after the service I was left feeling unsatisfied. The stylist who did our hair was nice but she was slow and took 3 hours just to do the bride and my hair (both really easy styles.) There was still two other bridesmaids there and she took someone else in between them! The bride also needed her eyebrows done and when we left we realized that the stylist had taken skin off her eyebrows!! The bride had bleeding eyebrows! By the time we got to the hotel the brides hair had come completely undone (we had asked the stylist to spray her before we left only to be told, "Oh it will hold.") The brides wedding day was almost ruined because of lost skin and a horrible hairdo!
Pros: cool place
