Hey jilldianne - I have a recommendation for you: don't be planning any trips to the Hinterland any time soon -perhaps not in your lifetime. Because Schnitzelhaus Owner-Chef Mike is a German - Bavarian, actually - and he behaves as MOST

At one time this place was great...Then his prices went up, and we can barely afford lunch. We avoid this place like the plague in October, you have very few choices on the menu at that time of year. The food is OKn just don't order the red cabbage. Go to Pubix and get a jar of Aunt Nellies Red Cabbage and heat it up in the microwave...far more superior than Das Schnitzlehaus. If you have a few extra bucks on you go for lunch. Be prepared to wait, the owner is too "frugle" to hire any help.

This place is complete and utter garbage, please look at their own pics closely on their website. The entire place is old wood with tiny tables.

The owner / chef is plain rude and unhelpful. The food coming from being stationed in Germany for over 3 years doesnt even compare to the street vendors at their worst.

Those 2 other reviewers here should be banned from reviewing, they must work for or be friends with the owner.

I made the horrible mistake of bringing my girlfriend to this restaurant. I have been here before, and while the food is decent? not good but decent I will never return. The owner for lack of a better word is plain rude and arrogant. It is impossible to have a decent meal in this restaurant with his presence. Be prepared to do anything he says and to sit, order, and leave at his command. Walking in I see him throwing out a very respectable looking older couple and screaming a derogatory word at them? mind you this couple was well dressed and driving a mercedez heh. I still sat down and ordered my very plain and basically inedible platter. We knew hed pitch a fit so we just asked for it to go and threw it away.

STAY AWAY from this place and go to Dunderbaks in the mall, not all germans are arrogant and rude and their food CAN be good.

After six of us just paid our bill of appox $300.00, the owner came over to us and asked us to leave because he had a party of six coming in soon. My wife was not even done with her coffee. We ended our conversation with our guests outside the restaurant for 20 minutes and never saw a party of six enter; the restaurant was empty. Extremely rude server/owner.

I had the worst restaurant experience of my life at Schnitzelhaus. Based on reviews that the food was good I decided to take my wife to Schnitzelhaus for authentic german deserts.
After we arrived we were promptly seated and asked for drink orders. After they arrived we were told to order from a special 4 course Octoberfest menu. This was never pointed out to us, and we explained that our only desire was to consume desert. The friendly waitress apologized and told us she could not offer us deserts and that we were not interested in the 4 course meal (as their regular menus was suspended for the month which was not advertised anywhere) we could just finish our coffee and asked us to return another time when we would be in the mood for a full meal.
After 10 minutes, and about halfway done drinking our coffee the owner approached us telling us we had to leave as he had reservations coming and he needed our table (surprising since the restaurant was 90% empty). Our reply of "we are finishing up" was retorted by the owner with a screaming "I want you to leave RIGHT NOW!". Startled by this rude behavior we immediately left he restaurant. Feeling cheated of the 5 dollars we paid for this most unmannered behavior. When we asked for our money back while standing in the entryway of the place the owner remarked "get out and wait for your money there or I call the police."

So if you are in the mood to experience what it must have been like to be screamed at by a guard in Auschwitz then please go to the Schnitzelhaus. As as a new costumer, unfamiliar with the restaurant special, never been told by the staff of the "special menu", I was treated in the rudest manner of my entire life. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place, unless your in the mood to be thoroughly insulted.

I love the Schnitzelhaus.
Mike and Suzie Jacoby have made it their pleasure to serve great beer and great food and they do it with excellence and good nature.
My favorite is the Gourmet Schnitzel with mushrooms and brandy flamed tableside.
Also the Kassler Ripchen is superb.
The strudel gets better every year.
We especially love their Octoberfest with the fabulous Inga performing on her accordian.
It's a great place and I hope to enjoy their food and company for many years to come.
Oh, and you should have reservations on the weekend.

Not sure why German restaurant in the US always look like this. You would not find anything like it in Germany. But the food was good, service very personal.

We visited this restaurant based on the menu I found online (despite the neg review on this site, they don't even have drapes at this restaurant so I think they left the review for the wrong restaurant. The "German" at this restaurant was doing the cooking and his lovely wife was taking care of the entire restaurant - german style (with efficiency and skill!!)....they have a wider selection of german food than I have ever seen in the states!! The food was superb! Everything tasted absolutely wonderful!! The portions were huge, so bring your empty stomach! The only comment we would make is that the ambience could use a little work. They need a better location and newer digs, but otherwise there are some great pictures and the biggest beerstein I have ever seen (and I grew up in Germany!!) Enjoy!!!

We have visited with a group of friends every October for years...tonight was our last visit. With several kids in the group, it was noisy and active at our table in an otherwise fairly empty restaurant. Unfortunately, my 2-year-old pulled on the curtain, infuriating the owner. When I apologized, I was humiliated by the owner getting in my face, screaming at me about my "wild animal" in front of the entire restaurant. I take responsibility for my child's actions, but the complete disrespect for my apology and the embarrassment he caused me in front of the entire restaurant was unacceptable. When my husband told him that we would not return because he was so rude, the man again went on a tirade, this time with my 4-year-old sitting in my husband's lap. My son spent the ride home talking about the angry, scary, bad man. My family will not return.

Very good food and the server was friendly and efficient. We have never been disappointed with the quality of food. The sauerbraten was very tender and delicious. The weinerschnitzel and jagerschitzel were also excellent. Overall, high marks for food and service.

Weiner Schnitzel. Potato Pancakes. Bratwurst. BEER.
These are some of the delicacies you will find at the Schnitzelhaus. One of Tampa Bays best kept secrets, this is the best place to go for authentic German cuisine.
Not only do you get "softly played German music" as their radio add suggests, but the atmosphere is super fun. The owner of the restaurant is also your chef, waiter, and entertainment for the evening. You'll find yourself choking on saurkraut as he cracks jokes at your boyfriend. At the Schnitzelhaus, every day is Oktoberfest, and yes, you should have another beer.
