My wife and I have been taking our new puppy to Dr. Tapper and the team at Emerald Hills Animal Hospital, and we couldn't be happier with the service we've received there.

Most recently, my wife took our pup to Dr. Tapper for a series of routine vaccinations and a fecal float test. Everything seemed to go fine until she brought our puppy home, whereupon he started yelping, fussing and cowering inside of his crate or under our couch. Our dog is usually an indiscriminate lover of all people and quite affectionate towards my wife, so she immediately became concerned. I was at work all day that day and was unaware of this developing situation at home until I began to receive panicked texts from my wife. To compound the situation, we were both new to dog ownership and had no clue whether the puppy's behavior was normal or an ominous sign of some terrible adverse reaction.

Work was especially busy that day so I was unable to call Emerald Hills until close to their closing time (my wife speaks English as a second language and did not feel she could clearly communicate the problem or correctly understand medical advice), and was told Dr. Tapper had already left the office for the day. Instead, another veterinarian in the office fielded our concerns and offered to examine our puppy at no cost if we could bring him in before closing. Unfortunately, we knew we couldn't make it there in time and we were given an emergency pager number to call in case we needed help after closing time.

I planned to head home and examine the puppy myself before sending an emergency page to a DVM, but was surprised when Dr. Tapper called me on the drive home to express his concern for our puppy and to conduct a brief phone interview of the puppy's behavior and symptoms. He told me he did not suspect a serious reaction based on my description of the situation, but to call him back if I was still worried after seeing my puppy at home. Fortunately, I arrived at home and was able to coax our puppy into coming out of his crate and, many treats later, had him more or less back to his tail-wagging, face-licking self. I called Dr. Tapper back to let him know everything was ok, and walked away from this experience confident that our puppy had a great veterinary team that we could depend on if a true emergency were to arise.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Tapper since moving to Broward County in 1997. He and his staff are top-notch professionals, and have given such great care and service each time I take my pets in for a visit! They are very compassionate, and really take the time to listen to their patients. They always make great recommendations on products and services, but I find they're not pushy if you decline. I can't imagine taking my babies to anyone else-best vet I've ever had!

5 star animal hospital. Dr. Ron Tapper is outstanding and so is his staff. They are all compassionate and friendly. Dr. Tapper kept my beloved Lab going and saved her life. She has since gone to doggie heaven. She was almost 13.

Hello All,

I am originally from South Florida. I remember that I know Dr. Tapper is an excellent doctor almost 20 years ago. I remember where he took care with my old cat Amy. She is very sick with her cancers. She is very poor cats. We are miss her very much and I remember where we brought new cat Amy since I am younger by age 14 years old. She is wonderful cats and she always like go outside all of the times and when she is coming back into the house. I remember that I took her to the vet where the doctor is put her to sleep and she is passed away. We are very sad to see my old cats Amy. Now, she is cremated.

Dr. Tapper and the associates he has had over the past ten years have provided my two dogs with excellent care. I can recommend this facility without hesitation and it is due to their careful examination that one of my dogs survived liver cancer two years ago and is still a happy 12 year old!

Emerald Hills appears to be a very well managed veterinary facility, due to the efforts of Dr. Ron Tapper. He, the other doctors and his staff work hard to make sure people's pets have an excellent experience there. They are very dedicated to the pets and their owners.

I love Dr. Tapper. He was great with my Doberman. While my dog has passed now, he lived a very healthy 14 years and I appreciate all the care and concern Dr. Tapper took with him.

My cat Mickey, I had him since I was little. I realized after my dog passed away that Mickey was becoming more and more ill, losing weight and his gums were turning white. I knew these signs could be from Feline Leukemia. My sister looked up the signs for this and the signs matched what was happening to Mickey. We took him to Emerald Hills Animal Clinic and the doctor told us it was just an infection and to buy these antibiotics and they should help him. My sister and I personally think they just gave us a load of bull and the drugs were just to help him die quicker. We had them run a Feline Leukemia test and they said he didn't have it it was only an infection. There is no possible way that they ran the test on him because if they did they would of seen the results come back positive. Within a week of the test my cat died pretty much by bleeding to death. When I called the vet a few days later she said sorry and had no emotion in her voice. I would advise you all to not use this Animal Clinic for anything because they're not helpful in any way!

We have had numerous cats at Emerald Hills over the last 6 years, and have always received what we considered to be professional and empathetic service. I have found them to be ready to present and discuss options in a patient way. They appear to cats and dogs with equal interest and attention, where we felt another local vet was very dog oriented.

Emerald Hills Veterinary Clinic entered into a contractual agreement by providing services and accepting legal payment for such services. A nine year old house cat has been seen by this clinic all of her life for shots, bathing, and nail clipping. Recently, the cat was not walking correctly and seemed lethargic, so a visit to Dr. Tapper was made and he recently diagnoised early stage diabetes. He had administered a "curve" test and sold us insulin and syringes with instructions to administer three units after feeding at the same time each day. The cat was taken to Dr. Tapper for a follow up visit a week later, and after taking a blood sample and doing a glucose test, said the cat's glucose level was not quite up to the right level, and to try four units of insulin a day. He did not perform a curve test for determining the 4 unit dosage. For several days the instructions were followed. Friday, the cat became unable to walk or stir. The cat was taken to Dr. Weiner at Emerald Hills, who administered glucose and sent the cat back home with instructions to page him if needed. That same night, the cat went into a coma, vomited and was found laying prone with her head in the vomit unable to move. We left a message on Dr. Weiner's pager and asked that he call us. No return call was received. The cat was immediately taken to Hollywood Animal Hospital where she suffered another seizure and will remain there until Monday. The attending Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Hollywood Animal Hospital, is administering 21/2 units and performing a curve test until the cat is stabilized, all at substantial expense to us on top of the payments made to Emerald Hills Veterinary for diabetic treatments, glucose tests, etc.

We describe this experience as totally unsatisfactory and feel the veterinarian staff at Emerald Hills did not honor the terms of the agreement of services by allowing the cat to suffer needlessly, and come near to death several times. We feel that Emerald Hills had a professional, moral and ethical responsibility to ourselves and to our pet cat.

It is our opinion that because initial diabetic treatments were not completely thorough, with some decisions seemingly made off the cuff, and because we could not reach the Emerald Hills Veterinarian by pager when needed, but had to take the cat to an emergency clinic instead, we did not receive a good deal for services rendered. Emerald Hills Veterinarians should pay the subsequent expenses incurred over this weekend to stabilize the cat.

In closing, we have removed the medical records from Emerald Hills for our two cats and transferred them to Hollwood Animal Hospital for future treatments, shots, etc.

We love Dr. Tapper! We bring all our pets here, and have for years. He makes our pets feel comfortable, and secure. He always informs us about new treatment and medication options. Our animals are always taken care of, and are healthy and happy because of this vet. My kids even like going :-) A+++

Message from Emerald Hills Animal Hospital

We are a full medical and surgical veterinary facility located 1 mile west of I-95 on Sheridan Street. We practice progress medicine in our 2-doctor hospital. If personal, one-on-one care is what you are looking for, you have found the right place. We are located in the Park Sheridan West Shopping center at the corner of Park and Sheridan. Our 5500 square foot facility is located on the west side of the center. In addition to our medical practice, we also offer professional grooming, bathing, and boarding. During off hours, one of the veterinarians has a digital pager so you have access to the doctors during off hours. If during the conversation, it is determined you have a true emergency, the doctor will refer you to a 24 hour emergency clinic. Dr. Ron Tapper has been practicing in Hollywood for 25 years and at the current location for 21 years.
