Had a great night there! Awesome friendly stuff, the grass-fed Burger is a must-eat (try it well-done with bluecheese), good drinks and cool people there. The food is actually better then I expected.

I had a blast!

Three of us went to Norman's on New Years Eve, but early in the evening (~10:00 pm) for a snack and drink before dinner. Ordered a few drinks, a seafood platter and some grilled mussels. The seafood platter bordered on unedible. It was deep fried in what must have been 2 week old oil and all the seafood was like rubber. The service was HORRIBLE. This is literal, I waved at the waitress 3 times as she came out to the sidewalk, and she never came over. After about 20 minutes with no waitress in site, I finally YELLED for a waiter. It still took 10 minutes and another trip to the service desk again for them to get me a bill. To add insult to injury, their policy is to add an automatic 18% gratuity for parties of 3 or more. DO NOT EAT AT NORMAN's, HORRIBLE PLACE.

Pros: It is close to a few hotels, nice ambiance

Cons: everything else - food, service and tip practices not acceptable

I used to frequent Normans back in the mid to late eighties when the place knew what it wanted to be,a fun bar where you could just hang out and have fun,and food was never really part of the equasion. Now it seems that people are coming in to dine and just kind of sit around, the food is good and fairly priced, but the original atmosphere just isn't there.Daytime barmaid Simone is worth the price of admission, however and her professionalism and friendly demeanor are refreshing,The now seldom used pool tables now sadly seem to serve only to annoy the semi-transient clientele,I once won seven straight pool tournements there, prompting original owner Norman Schwartz to ask me to not enter anymore ! Well, overall I still think the place is worth a visit when you're in the area, weekday happy hour drink specials are great.

After being approached by the waitress and no smile or pleasantness at all and not checking on us after bringing us our drinks, incorrectly I might add, I left no tip and crossed out the space on the credit card receipt. After checking my credit card statement online, I found that she decided to write in her own 3.25 tip somehow on an 18.00 check. The manager has yet to return my call on this improper activity and I've put the complete charge in dispute.

I would never recommend this business as there are many other choices along the beach and they obviously aren't concerned with the employee's actions.

OK since last here..The bar has improved a whole lot.The staff has been alot better.Floor manager is actually very good at what he does. When the place gets slammed it still moves pretty dam smooth.Always nice people waiting on you.I would definately recommend this bar as it is comfortable in there.Easy place to meet people to catch up on gossip with.Take a cab there if you plan to get trashed.Drink/Eat enjoy and smile. The beach is right across the street.and if you need a room..it's right upstairs. wink wink.
I almost forgot. The place has nice spacious outdoor seating.

Norman's is a classic American restaurant. Go there for burgers, sandwiches, beer, etc. The food we had was good; I definitely would recommend the "steak bites" appetizer. As a bonus, they are open till 5AM every night. Outside seating is also available, though the view of cars on Collins Ave. isn't that exciting. Overall, a good solid choice and the locals know it!
