We usually go on Sundays which is family day..They have some of the rudest workers there ever...these young kids who dont care about anything but getting to skate with all the 15 yr girls that come up there. The skates are junk, either the skates are loose which they are NOT supposed to adjust for you??? or they are missing wheels? Seriously?? You would rather someone to skate and twist their ankle rather than just tighten the wheels! And if you ask for different skates they tell you that they dont have any left?? Just rude! I will compliment one person there and that is the young man with the blonde hair he is very nice and courteous but the other ones just plain rude! Also, they seperate skating times for adults, pre-teens and kids...well they need to learn to watch and see who is skating b/c the same teenagers that are there every week seem to be allowed to skate everytime and then when its the kids turn the ones 12 and younger you have these teenage boys that are flying around the rink and dodging these little kids knocking them down and just going right by. So if you are thinking about going to skateland in Brandon be prepared for the above issues and be ready to complain to get your money back.

Recently observed a worker get fired for nothing.....one manager said this worker was fired for not having schedule coverage. But it was clearly marked on the calendar with a signature of the co-worker covering. The other manager (one I observed taking cash from the top of the cash drawer) said he was fired for an altercation with another employee? A he-said, she-said situation. The one old manager even embarrassed himself by getting angry with the boys mother for asking for clarification on the schedule situation. Threatened to get even more angry and they should leave. I'm calling the cops he then said. They asked about the kids last check......He was so angry he said just leave and other rude comments. Totally disrespectful. What a shame. I'm not going back to watch this type of public disrespect. My kids don't need to see this or listen to some old guy yell at people.

Skateland is a good place just a bit crowded, i have been going there for 5 years. What you said was maybe true but most of the time it is an excellent. Well it teeter totters over bad excellence and good excellence. The food there is basically just junk food though so i would grab your dinners and the restrooms not everynight is pizza night at skateland. Weekends are their busiest nights at skateland, the weekdays are the least busy. To end this review i give it 4 stars. Hey and to that last review how about you try to keep everything calm in the skating rink the man can only do so much. If you want it to be a kid place go during the weekdays before friday.

October 5, 2008 after much thought as to how to deal...
I think everyone has the right to know of how badly treated our kids are when we give them our hard earned money and drop them off at places that are supposed to be teen friendly.
This takes place on Friday Oct. 3, 2008. My daughter had a girlfriend spend the night and they made plans to visit Skateland of Brandon, which I wasn't really up to the idea as my daughter complains about her friends always being harassed, but it is where they wanted to go and since they just put in a full school week they need to let off some steam.
I drop them off approximately 7:15 and proceed home. I get a phone call from my daughter at 10:32pm asking to be picked up then instead of 11:00 because the manager said something about her friend's make up application, I thought to myself this is getting crazy, but I get my shoes on jump in the car and head over.
I walk in the front door, a Hillsborough County Sheriff and two girls are standing in front of me, and my daughter and her friend are standing to the left in the corner. I go over to them and try to get an idea of what happened.
As they start to tell me, the HCS walks over to the manager and basically tells him what we are talking about at which I turn around to see the manager, and ask him what the problem was and he just started yelling and screaming how he wouldn't have had a problem with her being there but he had to give a mother of 3 young children her money back because my daughters friends make up scared them, and that it wasn't Halloween. I asked if he had a problem taking their money when they walked in and he said no and just went on this nasty verbal assault against her, as I was standing there, then he turned and vented his frustration on my daughter because of her pendant she was wearing and called her a Satanist ! All of the ugliness was being poured out on two children, a 13 year old and a 14 year old, all the while the HCS just stood there and said nothing. Even when I asked him not to speak to them like that he continued.
I was so taken back that a grown man in his 50's would act like such a monster, in front of a parent considering his consumers are teenagers, the teenagers get their money that he takes oh so willingly from the parents.
Teenagers express themselves differently. Were we all not this age at one point and wore or did something our parents didn't like, I think they are called "PHASES" in which they will grow out of. These girls go to a school in which a uniform is worn everyday. I do not understand how one wears her make up should be frowned upon by grown adults who let's face it were once teenagers as well. I tried to express my feelings to the man who calls himself a manager and I was totally disrespected, my daughter was disrespected, and I am sure this can't be the first time something of this nature has taken place before.
I was threatened with being trespassed, but he can verbal attack children? What am I missing here. Needless to say I got the kids together and left, they did not need to see me get as ugly as the man they were seeing, and I want to thank the HCS for not stepping in at all, however, I am sure if it was his child being on the other end of the hatred he would have done something.
I would really like all the parents in Hillsborough County to know how our kids are really being treated when we leave them in the hands of people so willing to take our money. Do not allow your child to be judged, isn't there enough of that in schools today. Since all of this has taken place I looked at their website, and they do have ground rules, which is understandable, here are just a few that grabbed my attention:We promote clean, fun, friendly and safe behavior. Inconsiderate behavior will not be tolerate. We reserve the right to refuse admission to anyone not meeting our standards of good taste and to evict persons not following the policies of this rink. This makes sense to refuse admission, however not when money has already exchanged hands, and nothing is said until 10:30pm.No profanity please. It is okay however to be a 55 year old man and spout off ugly words at our kids, with no regard or respect, that a parent of one of the young girls is standing there. It must be that his child NEVER did anything wrong as a teenager. There is always competent supervision on hand with on-site security at our Friday and Saturday night sessions.Oh yes, one officer who stands there and says nothing, now that is competent. But they are there to keep an eye on our kids.
The only reason John Pate gets one star is because in order to post you have to give one to five stars, but you deserve nothing, not as a manager, as a human being, and not as a parent/grand parent.

Maybe because this is a family owned business and this is the only roller skating rink in the area, the customer service of this place stinks. This is NOT a place for a party for elementary age kids. There is no place for them to sit and eat. You are given 2 tables, these so called tables are back to back booths that holds 4 kids. You have to compete with other parents for trying to seat your group together. (At 11:50 a.m it is like Black Friday at Wal-Mart -that is when you are allowed to come in and set up for your party no matter what time your party starts). There is no place for parents who stay with their kids. What makes the customer service so bad is that these people do not return phone calls and if you dare say you have been trying to reach them they, they respond with a remark such as "we don't stay here all day". Heaven forbids if you ask if can they accomodate a group of about 20+ elementary kids for birthday festivities such as a place to sit while they eat cake and ice cream. The response I received was so rude that it made me wonder if this establishment is as Christian based/family oriented as they claim. After speaking to several parents who were hosting a party they confirmed that the customer service is awful. To sum this up, I will give you the same advice their management gave me.... you should consider having your party somewhere else. This remark came from my request for a banquet table "which they have in the back" be brought out during cake and ice cream time so that the kids can sit down and eat. (I was informed by one of the younger workers that they can do this- wouldn't ask if I wasn't told).

Skateland has been around forever!! This is the only weekend establishement in Brandon for teens and pre-teens to go to. I think Mr. Pate does an very good job of accomodating the facility with security on teen nights for those occasional altercations. My kids love skateland and have been going there for years.

Skateland of Brandon has been around for over 20 years. I went there as a Kid and now I take my daughter there. They are reasonably priced. They are great for birthday parties. They have skating leasons for all ages on the weekends. They also have Tiny Tot skating for up to ages 6 yrs old. Tiny tots are great because you don't have to worry about the older kids running over your little ones.
