They are the biggest scammer's out there!!
CONSUMER BEWARE! The repairmen are apparently told to push that stupid Light that's suppose to kill mold.
I paid $36 for a chlorine tablet basically. Ironically we had to replace the capacitor a wk.after the repair man was here. We used someone else, of course. I could go on, I could give details, but I'm tired of telling my story. The BBB has heard from me. I know nothing will come of it. But I will talk abt. how they are scammer's until I'm blue in the face....I told them I would give them the "word of mouth" they deserve....and I mean it!

We had Winton's do a 21 point tune-up as advertised in a local sales flyer. It was advertised for $29.99 and included a free acrylic filter. We were charged $36, did not get a filter and when we did not purchase the $900+ item to kill bacteria, the rep left so fast that he not only did not put the screws back in the cover and shroud - but took them with him. So, we had to purchase our own filter and buy replacement screws for our air conditioner unit. Would definitely not recommend this business - very poor business practices and untrustworthy repairperson. Calls to the business were ignored. Notified BBB.

This company can kiss my butt. They are so ripping my mother off and they have meant the right now because they are about to deal with me. They were suppose to service my mother's a/c this morning but no one has showed up because they are going something else in another city. I am the one who made the appointment for her this morning. Now they are telling her that they will come later tonight or early in the morning. Her house feels like a sanua right now and there are fans going on every where. They are not getting another penny of my mother's money.

baught a unit from them w/ warranty,they want to charge me for a service call for 39.00 to repair,no problem.Tech shows up replaces a capaciter and now wants to charge me 106 for diagnostic fee disposal and 59 for service. scam artist glad i did not or will not pay full amount.they threatened to put a lien on my house over it.I went down to their office to talk to them and to correct the issue,i told them that i was not going to pay for their shady practice and if they wanted the rest of the money to come "Get It".

I am partly responsible for this company keeping an F rating with the BBB. They won't even respond to a complaint from them. They clipped me out of more than $200. I had to call another Service to correct a problem they created on my AC unit.

The sales person HUGH is a joke doesnt no anything needed a register capped off in attic said it was a return could not be capped said only choice was to put in another register for only $500 when tech came out said it could be capped. Hugh works on commision and is in with the owner LAURA who will never talk to you what a joke hm wonder why she doesnt talk to anyone cause she knows of the scam and doesnt want to deal with it DONT USE THIS COMPANY anyone that says anything good is within the company or doesnt no any better THEY ARE SCAMMERS BIG TIME STAY AWAY SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!

These people talk a great game, and seem very nice. But do not be fooled. This company re-negged on several appointments, charged us $803 just to clean the coils, telling us the leaking and dripping would stop and our power bill would go down. The first tech also said that the $803 included several discounts, and stated several times that they were not paid on commission, and would not try to sell us a new unit since one was not needed.

After the second tech came out to perform the Coil Clean, our A/C worked round the clock just to get down to 82 degrees, so we called them to let them know it was actually working WORSE than it was before. They said they had to send the same guy out, so he came out, baffled as to what happened, and then concluded that he must have accidentally caused a leak in the freon line when he re-attatched the unit. He claimed to have fixed this, and that we had a sticky TXB valve. He said he was pretty sure he fixed it (other than a slight drip our A/C was working great before, so I have to conclude something he did caused the valve to stick,) and that it should work better, but if it breaks down, he would recommend a new unit.

Better is a relative term. Our A/C still has to run most of the day just to get down to 78 degrees (we jumped for joy when it came down to 75 one overcast day.) Our Power Bill is still twice what it was before they repaired it. If something he did caused us to need a new unit, we'll replace it, all right. But we won't give Winton's another dime of our money to do so.

I had an appointment between 2 and 3, ok the tech showed up very ealry, no problem- for him to walk around my house to tell me my coils need to be cleaned but he has a bad back so he cannot do the work, ok so they scheduled the following week for a "skinny rep"- of course I called to follow up on the appt and I was told they will come- oh about 12:30 i get a call to tell me they rescheduled me wrong and they will not beable to make it!! no reschedule appt, no sorry nothing!! They were the only company to find my freon leak! I'm glad this problem is behind me. Thank you! They also installed a surge protector. No other company bothered to let me know I needed one. NO WONDER MY PREVIOUS UNIT BLEW OUT A FEW YEARS AGO DURING HURRICANE SEASON!

Their maintance agreement is very reasonable. They cleaned my coils for only 200 dollars. Every other company wanted 200 to 300 for just one cleaning. They gave me the contract for 3. I was very pleased with their services. I highly recommend them to anyone in the Tampa Bay area

They are total rip-off artists. They'll come out and check your system and aALWAYS find something to sell you. They'll sell or even throw in a free service contract only so they can come back and charge you agian for something else. My unit was working fine but they wanted to come check it out from a "free" service contract they gave me last year when I had them install a breaker I supposedly "needed". Now it's not as cool in my house and isn't getting as cool as it was just the day before. I had a funny feeling about them and should have went with my first instincts. I'm calling the Better Business Bureau for sure --- BUYER BEWARE !!!

This company has come out twice over the last 12 years. I should have known to stay away the second time. I signed up for service contract but cancelled that night after my husband researched them. (We were in time to cancel the credit card). This past year they called while I was waiting on another company that we do have service contract with and I thought it was them. They came out inspected and said we needed a whole new unit and a bunch of other stuff totaling over $5 grand. I told them I had service contract and they called office and after a big run around said no I didn't. I said why were they out they said they had a contract and they said "they were mistaken" and that we owed $250 for the inspection. I told them I was not paying and eventually had to call the police and ask to have them removed. We called the correct service company the next day and they came out and found nothing wrong and performed the correct service. Now this company will not leave us alone. They keep calling as if we are new customers and I have told them repeatedly to take us off the list and that we are on the no solicitation list. They continue to ignore it all. I am now reporting to BBB and No Solicitation as harrassment. BEWARE STAY AWAY. PLENTY OF AC COMPANIES TO CHOOSE FROM WHY TAKE A CHANCE?

Winton's is a huge scam. They charge twice as much as other companies and don't return phone calls. The owner is always "in a meeting". I filed a complaint with the BBB and Winton's doesn't even respond to them. The people that wrote good reviews must work for them or aren't aware of their overcharges.

i was getting calls every day even after they came out to service my ac. its like management was running around with the heads cut off. it got old fast told them about its didn't stop so i got a little rude. had them service my ac for 3years..

TRUELY FANTASTIC ! Two other companies were out to my home because my 4 year old system would not cool my home below 80 degrees in the afternoon. Both companies were only intrested in selling me new units. One wanted over $8500.00 and the other one wanted close to $9000.00. I just couldn't understand this when my air conditioner is only 4 years old ? A friend recomended Wintons because she had used them for years. Thank God!
They found a small leak and repaired it and put in new freon. It cost me less than $400.00 and COOL in the afternoons again. Wintons has found a new customer for life. THANKS !

Sounds like "QQ" got fired and is juuuuuuuust a little bitter. Why don't you look up your own nose before you insinuate things you think you know. And besides I bet you were the rude person mentioned that answered the phone when some of these people called for help - that is when you weren't too busy on Myspace to answer the phone or do your work. As far as the company's concerned, I've never had any problems with them. But, as with any purchase, I don't let anyone pressure me into buying anything I'm not sure I want. No one has that much power over me. Just trust your instincts. They never steer you the wrong way.

They couldn't come over the weekend and I had to wait until Monday. when the man showed up he said he recommended a dye pack that would cost me $232. and 4 pounds of freon at $65. per pound. That is for something he caused. I told him not to do anything I would get someone else to fix it and I never want to see them again. I got someone else to fix it and at way below that price.

This another example of this companies tricks. quote sixteen ninty five for installing a UV bulb when they really mean sixteen hundred and ninety five dollars. I was on my way to the airport when I got this frantic call from my wife that we were in serious problem because of mold growth in our air handler and it needed immediate attention. So I asked how much, well he wasn't sure but he would call me back on my cell phone, He did about 5 minutes later and quoted 29 hundred plus dollars and I told him that I would have to wait until I returned from my trip before I made that kind of monetairy decision. He said I should at least have him install a UV light for sixteen ninety five. the phone went back and forth between me, my wife and Brian the service technition, and he repeated that it was only sixteen ninety five so I said put it in thinking it was only a $16.95 light bulb. I went balistic when I returned the next evening to find a bill for $1,695 plus $161 for a Surge Protector totaling $1,862 and a charge on my wifes credit card for that amt. I called CITI FINANCIAL Credit Card Company and tried to cancel the payment and they said that they had already transfered the funds to Winton and there was nothing they could do.
I called Winton back and complained that they should immediately return and take out the UV Light Bulb and because I was raising my voice a bit after she told me it was to late for a refund since the work was done and my wife paid for it. He was barely here for an hour. The girl rudly hung up on me. I called her back and she said she would hang up again, so I told her I was hanging up on her. Waiting for a call back from their manager. I called another company and they said that they have heard from other customers that had complained about Winton's "trickery, some of them in tears. This another example of this companies tricks. quote sixteen ninty five for installing a UV bulb when they really mean sixteen hundred and ninety five dollars. I was on my way to the airport when I got this frantic call from my wife that we were in serious problem because of mold growth in our air handler and it needed immediate attention. So I asked how much, well he wasn't sure but he would call me back on my cell phone, He did about 5 minutes later and quoted 29 hundred plus dollars and I told him that I would have to wait until I returned from my trip before I made that kind of monetairy decision. He said I should at least have him install a UV light for sixteen ninety five. the phone went back and forth between me, my wife and Brian the service technition, and he repeated that it was only sixteen ninety five so I said put it in thinking it was only a $16.95 light bulb. I went balistic when I returned the next evening to find a bill for $1,695 plus $161 for a Surge Protector totaling $1,862 and a charge on my wifes credit card for that amt. I called CITI FINANCIAL Credit Card Company and tried to cancel the payment and they said that they had already transfered the funds to Winton and there was nothing they could do.
I called Winton back and complained that they should immediately return and take out the UV Light Bulb and because I was raising my voice a bit after she told me it was to late for a refund since the work was done and my wife paid for it. He was barely here for an hour. The girl rudly hung up on me. I called her back and she said she would hang up again, so I told her I was hanging up on her. Waiting for a call back from their manager. I called another company and they said that they have heard from other customers that had complained about Winton's "trickery, some of them in tears. I'm convinced that their tecs are "trained' to con people.Stay Away!!! My rating should be less then one star but there are no stars less than one in this review.

Yes Winston Air conditiong is not the route to go!!!!

I had the tech come out to my home and was told me that I needed brand new duct had another tech come out and the ductwork was fixable. The tech showed me a problem spot that was still attached to the unit but later on when I had another tech come to check it was unattached. I was also told by the winston tech that I needed freon and that if I paid $200.00 they would refill it two more times. I paid the $200.00 but opted for a second opinion on the duct work replacement.
When I found out that the duct work was unattached I called the company to complain. During the conversation I was told that I paid for the service plan. When I told the rep that I was told that $200.00 was for freon he responded by telling me that because I had complained about his associate He would no longer talk to me and that I must submit a letter to the company.

This company is will rip you off it you are not knowledgeable about a.c maintenance.

Had I not called another a.c company to verify my duct work I could have easily spent thousands of dollars replacing duct work that does not need to be replaced! I'm also fighting to get my reimbursement for $200.00 that I was lied about!

Do your research before going with any company. Especially during these trying times.

They talked her into a $3500.00 job in her townhouse that did absolutely nothing. They have triple charged her for replacement parts she didn't need. How do I know this? He actually has techs that quit Winton's to work for him because they didn't like the crooked practices! Why is everyone saying terrible things about this company? I have been with this company for years and I have never had a problem! Their techs are extremely kind and they have kept my ac clean and working. This is the best company i have ever dealt with!

I am new to the area and called on Winston's for A/C. Problem #1, My appointment was scheduled between the hours of 8am and 10am specifically for a reason. They didn't bother to show or call. At about 10:20am I called and the lady that answers the phone says, "oh let me call the technician to find out where he is". She returns to the line to tell me that he is about 30 minutes away! I called Winton's for a tune up. It didn't take them long to figure out why I was getting sick. Their tech showed me all of the mold in my system. They recommended a UV light. Since they installed it, my family and I have felt much better. Thank you so much!

This has got to be the worst company in history.... We called them out for service and ended up getting ripped off. They sold us mold treatments that didn't work.Overcharged us on almost everything they did and we still had to call another company.They are all liars and thieves. My neighbor gave me a name of another company, Cold Air Now. This guy is great. He came in checked the unit and in less that 5 minutes he found the problem and had in fixed in less than an hour. James saved us a lot of money. We were surprised it didn't cost us an arm and a leg to get heat back in the house, and we didn't need another unit. We've had James out here a couple of more times since then and he's GREAT, reasonable rates, and most important, he's fair and honest. IF you don't want to get ripped off, then DON'T USE WINSTON'S THEY ARE MAJOR RIP OFFS....

I have been using Winton's for PM for the past few years. Recently, my heat went out. Winton's arrived and proceeded to tell me at first that my heat exchange valve was not working and had to be replaced for $800. The tech then said the coils to my outside unit were impacted and the compressor was no good, so I needed a new unit. (Not sure how he could know this since he did not hook up any of the diagnostic tools to the unit). Then he said that the coils in my air handler were impacted, that I had black mold and my drain was plugged. Of course, I was wondering what good the PM's were doing if I had all these issues. The tech said that I should replace my air handler as well and since my ducts were supposedly chewed up, I should replace them as well. The tech gave me an estimate just on the a/c unit and the air handler of $7,500. Since I did not trust this opinion, I called in another company who immediately found that the heat exchange wire near the air handler had been disconnected and as soon as he connected it my heat started to work. Also, all of the alleged problems that I had with both units did not exist. I have no doubt that six months ago when they did the PM that the tech disconnected the wire and this tech (a different one) was told about it and he was instructed to not let me know about the wire to try to get me to but a whole unit. Imagine the nerve of trying to defraud me out of thousands of dollars over a disconnected wire.

I had a Freon leadking problem. and the technician from Winton's added 4 pound of Freon and they leaked out in two days, he should just say that I need new coiler! He insisted to clean the outside unit's coil (the package price is also for a one year maintenace that I did not want) saying "I can't just add freon without doing anything, it is against the law". I complained to their office, the manager (Bobby) never called back and the office staff were VERY rude! After reading the above comments, I know it is "normal" for them! Avoid them! Bad, Bad apples!

I am sitting an 88 degree house for the fourth day waiting for Winton's to respond. They have been out 5 times without fixing it correctly ( it never works more than a few hours)and they don't care because it's warranty work even though I I bought the unit from them and I have paid several hundred dollars to have a service contract with them for many years! There is no concern for my pet's or family's welfare!

When called about the problem they wanted me to wait for a couple of days and turn off the air conditioning with temperatures of 95 degrees in the street and water coming down like rain from the ceiling. Had to call a different company to repair the leaking problem and though they aknowledge their responsability for the problem and claimed they will fix the ceiling etc a month later they have not done so. The manager Steve does not return calls (six or seven of them) and it is clear they do not have the intention to repair the damage. Thus I am calling my own contractor to repair the ceilings and sueing them in a civil court through my lawyer. AVOID THEM. Companies like this should not be in business. H N

This is the worst company i have dealth with in a long time. If you need your ac or heating fix i suggest finding someone else. This company lies to you. I had a new ac put in they told me i would have 10 years parts on my air conditioner. Well when they came out last time to service it. They then tell me that i need to pay $350 a year in order to have the 10 year warenty on my air.
Then when they instauled it i had to have them down to my house 3 times because each time it faieled the inspection.
I would stay far away from this company.

CONS: they don't know how to deal with the customer
