NO NO NO NO!!!! On Thursday, June 9th, 2011 a friend and I chartered out of Harborwalk Marina. Having been to Destin many times and NOT fishing, we were excited to finally get to use a charter while on vacation. The beautiful boat we were on was called "UN REEL". Later we found out that this was an OVERFLOW boat, meaning when they overbook a day, this is a boat they call that is not normally part of the fleet. We began our 4 hour charter right outside the bay in Destin with all the other boats catching our bait. There wasnt enough "bait" poles for all 9 passengers so we took turns filling the well. We then began to troll around the exact same area for 3 more hours as we watched all the other boats going out to fish for snapper and other fish. We NEVER got more that 1/2 mile from the marina!!! THere were only 4 Deep water poles for 9 Fishermen! As we took turns on the RARE occasions there was a fish on the line, I finally got to grab a pole. The fish fought for 1 1/2 minutes and then got off. That was it, my turn was OVER. I paid for a 4 hour fishing trip and held a fishing pole for a minute and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The captain was CLEARLY not going to go anywhere to fish to save gas. We got back to our dock with 3 small king mackeral. Not usually a problem cause fishing is fishing and you cant control the fish, however all the other 4 hour charters were in and EVERYONE had limited out on snapper! This is a tourist trap and a gamble. RESERCH and KNOW what your buying. WE WONT be back. We complained and of course got NOTHING but a "we'll look into it".

Last Friday, as a last minute whim I took my family for a 4 hour charter on the Barracuda. I decided to go with HarborWalk Charters because they could get me in last minute. There is a reason they do not book out 1 week in advance as other charters do. The cost was $560 plus a 20% first mate tip. We spent about 2 1/2 hours "looking for fish" then about a 1/2 hour fishing for small fish that most people would consider bait. The rest of the time was spent going back to the dock. At the end of the hosing the first mate, Josh, had the nerve to tell us not to mention to other people that we had an extra 1 hour. We got back 30 minutes late. We caught 1 hand full of fish. By that I mean the equivalant of fish that can fit into your fist. Not 5 that we could keep. It was fun being together as a family but this crew did little as far as bait hooks or work for it whats so ever. Josh said he used to work for a commercial fisherman and was probably fired for lack of production and I feel Captain Jason lacked the experience to know where to look for fish and we turned up jack. By far the worst fishing experience we have ever had. Charter $560; Tip $110; memories hopefully gone by tomorrow. Hope this helps others. Please check the experience and rating of your charter BEFORE spending you hard earned money!

Pros: Out on the water with family.

Cons: Poor effort at fishing

We have used Harborwalk a number of different times and they are great people to deal with. They have a small fleet of boats and offer numerous packages form half day-full day and even some nightime trips. Find them online and book early.
