I experienced dr losey as the relief vet for marcum rd animal hospital.I took half a day off work yesterday and we drove 2.5 hours to Marcum Road Animal Hospital for an Ear Crop Consultation in Lakeland. They were highly recommended and not too expensive. Well, I was told the doctor is an older lady who is very experienced and would walk us through the process. However, she wasn't in. We saw the "relief" vet, Dr. Loosey who was an older man that appeared disabled (May have suffered a stroke at one point),he could barely move one side of his body. You could not quite understand him when he spoke and he could not handle our 5.5 lb dog with both hands and walked severely limped. Well, he took our dog to the back where you could hear him mumbling and our dog screaming like he'd been stepped on or dropped. He came back and told us that he took his blood but said the couldn't find a vain in his neck. So he used his leg. I noticed then that Dr. Looseys hands were bloody and our dogs leg was covered in blood. I said " oh my god, is that blood?" He said no it's alcohol. See you next week to get his tail done. And left the room. I of course had a meltdown, we weren't there for blood work or a tail dock. You could clearly see our dogs tail was docked. We were there for an ear consultation. I began to somewhat make a scene and a nice lady told me that the front desk person was new, and had mixed us up. 2 vet techs came out, calmed me down, and cleaned up Our dog. She cancelled the blood test and apologized and really tried to reassure us. We paid, left, drove 2.5 hours home and the next morning, I cancelled his surgery.

We believe in focusing on being happy in life. Life is too short and our pets are our kids. So it's up to us to see to it they are taken well care of to live long happy lives as well. Having said that, if you are unhappy with this vet or have any doubts about any vet, please contact us as we have found a wonderful Vet who is very caring, VERY reasonably priced, they are extremely thorough, the staff is professional and caring, and the facility is clean and certified. Our pets are now healthy and happy and that is all that matters to us!

This is a wonderful place to take your pets which I have been doing for the last 20 years. The entire staff is friendly, courteous and show a genuine care for the animal and it's treatment. Even with end of life situations, it is handled with compassion for both the pet and owner. Thanks Doc and Kay for many years of great service.

My wife and I have been taking our pets to Dr. Losey for over 20 years. They have always taken great care of our pets and treat them like their own. Doc, Kay and their staff are all friendly and a pleasure to deal with. We consider Doc and Kay as more than just business partners, they are good friends. If you want the best care for your beloved pets, you will get it at Losey's Animal Hospital.

I have been using the Losey Animal Hospital for over 25 years and have had a pleasant experience every time I have been there. I have seen with my own eyes how much Dr. Losey loves and cares for the animals in his care. I have dogs and cats and will always take them to Dr. Losey, because I trust him to give my pets the best care they can get.

My husband and I have been doing business with Losey Animal Hospital for over 10 years. We have lived all over the east coast and can say that Dr. Losey is one of the best vets we have ever had take care of our animals. He has taken care of 5 of our dogs and 3 cats. His care includes saving one of our dogs lives when we moved here and has treated all kinds of illnesses and has also kept them well by using superb prevention techniques. His character, professionalism, experience and service shows each and every time you see him. His wife, Kay, also works at the hospital and is equally exceptional. Several of their staff have commented to me more than once how fair, generous and caring Dr. Losey and Kay have been to them. That is really why I am writing this. I read the report from a disgruntled employee and was shocked. It is some times hard to be a number two in a place of business and some times causes jealousy on the part of No. 2.
If you have not found a vet yet or are looking for another place to take your family pets, go to Dr. Losey. Dr. Losey and Kay expect the same excellence from their employees as they themselves give to each and every one of us. I can guarantee you if you go there, you too will be a fan!

I hate to see that there are so many people out there that have nothing better to do with thier time then down a very well respected vet. I have gone to other vets in Polk County and let me tell you Dr, Losey is the best. I had another vet do surgery on my dog and he was never right after that. I didn't come here to complain about him because there are always going to be people that are not happy. Part of life and part of dealing with the nasty public. Dr. Losey has been taking care of my animals for the last ten years and has always been good to them and me. He really cares about animals and it shows. My daughter had a dog that had swallowed a nail and she got in touch with Dr. Losey at his home and she drove out to meet him and he removed the nail from his rear end without any request for payment. He also knew that she did not have any money and gave her the after treatment care instructions. I would never change my vet. The fact that ignorant people do not know the information as it pertains to yearly shots is not a problem of Dr. Losey. His clinic only offers a service for shots and keeps you informed of when they are due if YOU choose to get them for your dog. The fact that the shots are not needed as often as offered has been an OPINION out for years on the internet. There are very few if any vets that don't offer them as a yearly preventive. If you choose not to get the shots, and your animal does get sick, then who is to blame then. If he didn't tell you about the shot I guess you would then say it was his fault for not telling you that your animal needed it. CATCH 22 for Doc. Doc is the best.......

Dr. Losey has been my vet for 20+ years and he has always treated my furry babies with care and love.
He graduated from one of the best Veterinary schools in the country. He is very knowledgeable and caring and I have every confidence in him and the quality care he provides my furry babies. When he treats my furry babies, he does so in a manner that creates the least amount of stress to them and to my pocketbook.
Dr. Losey is an "AWESOME" vet and my furry babies love him!
His staff is always friendly, supportive and caring as well.

I would like to start by saying that you can not believe all that you hear or read! My experience at Losey Animal Hopsital was wonderful! My pets always treated with care. The staff is always helpful, experienced and best of all nice! Dr. Losey has a large caring heart and also helps the community. I have learned that he is helping the MDA as well as the humane society, and animal services over the years. I would recommend this hospital and Doctor to anyone. You can always expect your pet to be treated just like family.

Please see the information complaint from Sunshine J. I took my dog to another Animal Hospital who performed a complete blood physical and everything came back negative. She does NOT have heartworms, her liver and kidneys are fine. She was NOT pregnant and did NOT have cancer. I have filed a complaint against Losey Animal Hospital to the Florida State Veterinarian Board. It is my suggestion you do not use this Vet until a complete investigation is completed.

I have used Dr. Losey and always been pleased with him and his staff. I have never been pushed to buy anything - he worked with my dog on a torn acl to prevent having to do surgery on her. he is very good with the horse and always takes to the time to check his white areas or any spots or problems - Just never had a complaint here

WARNING: Not a nice place! I work for them for a short time and was treated poorly by both the Doc and his wife. The Doc tends to argue with patients and put down his employees, the wife is also very rude to the employees. Hardcore up-selling was the emphasis in this place. All I can say is: What goes around comes around. I'm sure eventually they'll get what's coming to them.

Update on my dogs and Losey's: They kept sending us postcards saying our 10 month old dog is due for a Parvo booster. I checked with the State Board and our new Vet and once they have had their DDHPP they do not need it again for a year. "According to the AVMA and AAHA, dogs at low risk of disease exposure may not need to be boostered yearly for most diseases." Check it out for yourself! Again this quack of a vet tried to give one of my dogs something they did not need. I am very thankful we changed vets now before they killed one of our dear pets. When we called them to tell them that our oldest dog did NOT have heartworms they said "there must have been a mix up at the lab." We then said YOU NEVER sent the blood work to any lab, you did the test right there and told us she had had heartworms within 20 minutes of the test. LIARS! Then we were about to address the unnecessary PARVO shot for our puppy and she quickly hung up the phone. Great business practices huh!! She knew she lied to us and neither of our dogs needed any medical prodcedures or additional shots until 2011!! I will follow up on the complaint sent to the DPR, the State Board and BBB to have their license pulled. They have no business treating lab rats, let alone pets! And to the rest of these oh so nice posts.. where were all these nice words of wisdom for this Vet when I posted the first time that they were trying to perform unnecessary medical procedures? It's ironic that they all appeared after complaints have been filed, are you all family or friends? I have all the documentation proving this Vet and his associates tried to perform multiple unnecessary medical procedures, the post cards they sent stating our dogs need shots they were not due for yet, and printouts of all their misdiagnosis. They all have been submitted to the State Board and I will gladly send copies to anyone needing further proof these people do not care about your Pets, only your wallets! The truth is in the facts!

I have been using this vet for 15 years and have not had any problems- in fact just recently he went above and beyond to avoid performing surgery on my dachshund who had delivered 4 puppies normally and seemed fine-then began to push a day and a half later- to my horror a small paw was protruding from her- I rushed her to Losey's and he spent the next hour and a half helping my dog to deliver not one, but 2 stillborn puppies. He could have just given her a c-section and been done with it- but he worked on her tirelessly-explaining all the way what he was doing- to get these stillborn pups "delivered" vaginally- thereby saving an already weak mama dog from the trauma of surgery and sutures while she had 4 newborn pups to nurse and care for. As a result he very likely saved the life of my dog AND the healthy pups. Yes this experience was very hard but without doc Losey's help and dedication, a hard situation may have turned into a heartbreaking one. I think when it comes to doctors of any kind we expect them to be superhuman-to never make a wrong call or a bad judgement-and that's unfair and unrealistic. All we have a right to expect is that they do their best for our pets-sometimes things happen beyond their control and sometimes they make mistakes-they are HUMAN just like the people they serve. To the lady who got a second opinion on her dogs prostate- I hope the second vet was right for your dogs sake-and I hope that he never does develop prostate cancer - have you considered how you would feel if he does? And last but not least-yes Kay Losey is a royal pain in the butt-she rarely smiles and can be gruff-however the financial success of her husbands business is probably largely due to her management skills. The Doc is plenty nice and patient and I for one don't care if the lady behind the scenes smiles at me during the couple minutes I see her When I'm coming and going - she's not the one treating my furry family members! Give these people a break-they've always been good with MY dogs.

Thank you for your review I'm sorry to hear about you dog,, but I'm glad I'm not the only one with problems with this so called vet, I had my dog in there just for normal shots and was told that his prostrate was enlarged and he needed to be neutered right away or he would get cancer, I took him to a real vet and was told that his prostrate was NORMAL in size and the dog was ok. That man should not be practicing any more. I have heard sssoooo many things bad about them now I know, I would never recommend him to anyone!!!!

If you use this vet you really need to reconsider if YOU LOVE YOUR DOG OR CAT, he really is not a good vet, he tried to do a un-necessary surgery on my dog that he was just guessing at and never did the proper lab work to find out what was wrong. I DO NOT AND REALLY MEAN DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS IDIOT TO ANYONE.
