My husband and I currently take lessons at the Mandarin location. We have been students for about 4 months now, and our expectations have been far exceeded. We have never done anything like this before, and yet, we are finding this to be one of the greatest experiences we have ever done together in our 9 years of marriage. I highly recommend ballroom dancing for every couple - I couldn't be happier with A Social Affair.

I contacted A Social Affair about 6 months ago to get help on my wedding dance. I have NO background in dance and was hesitant at the start to pay someone to teach me anything at all. My first experience was great! They brought us in and we had a first meeting and lesson at no cost. They spent a lot of time just asking us what we were really looking for in our first dance. We decided on a Vietnamese Waltz (not an easy dance, especially for someone with two left meet like me). They did a WONDERFUL job of teaching me the basics and building slowly till I felt more comfortable. To end the story our instructor came to our wedding last month and all of my old buddies were floored when they saw the dance!! We are still taking lessons and have branched out to other forms such as Salsa (FUN!!) and Cha-Cha! I would recommend them to EVERYONE!

I called A Social Affair dance studio to inquire about the Thriller dance classes for the Thrill the World event. I was told that someone would call me back but no one did and we missed the last of three lessons given. When I called back to get more information and to see why I wasn't called back I was rudely told that I was not called back because I was too late and if I wasn't able to attend all three classes (which was not indicated in the ad) that I could not participate in the event. The service on the phone was enough to tell me that A Social Affair is not customer oriented. For a world wide event marketed as fun I found this studio taking the event too seriously. If every city had run their classes like A Social Affair no records would have been broken at all!!!

As the date of this writing, January 2009, the allegedly experienced professional belly dance instructor is 17 years old and has never taken a lesson in her life. In 2008 she danced briefly in one now defunct restaurant because, according to the owner, she brought in a large number of her teenage friends to his otherwise dead night. She simply copies moves from dvds and videos. As with any dance, you WILL injur yourself if your instructor does not know proper techinque. Even actress Susan Sarandon has injured herself trying to learning belly dance. Do yourself a favor and patronize a restaurant that employs and real, professional, performing belly dancer who has put the years of training and study in to the art and ask them about lessons. There are legitimate classes with real instructors out there! And shame on the owners of this studio who know of her inexperience and lack of training, yet allow her to teach irregardless. Tough economic times for them should not be more important than the safety of their customers!

In January 2007 I walked through the doors of A Social Affair Dance Studio (Mandarin) and signed up for the introductory offer. The offered included three private lessons, two group classes and a Friday night dance. Not being musically inclined, which means I don't have rhythm, I decided to take the next level called the Mix and Mingle and continued taking lessons throughout the year. 2007 was filled with personal challenges, but I didn't quit, and with the instructors encouragement and professionalism I now feel comfortable enough to accept a dance with confidence. As a bonus, I've met a lot of people (students) from different walks of life that made this adventure even more fun. Hope to see you at the Friday night dance....

I signed up for the introductory package for about $60 per person which gave us 3 lessons that were about 20-30 minutes each. The lessons were great and the instructors are very talented. The problem is that they focus too much on getting you to sign a contract with them, and not enough time giving you what you paid for. Half of the time when we were dancing, we were being asked which package we were going to sign up for. They bring all the guns out after your 3rd lesson; they had 3 people surround us, pressuring us to sign a contract on the spot. I wish that I had known this before so I could have started somewhere else, but hopefully this review will give people like me fair warning.

My husband and I took dance lessons here before we were to get married, he could dance and I couldn't so we went here. It was very nice, the instructor was patient with us and the price was very reasonable and we really had a great time.
