This was my first art museum, came in as a fifth grader, then as a student. It has many pieces, and collections. One is a lifesize and lifelike football player. It is almost as if you can feel him breathing. Other collections consists of student art/deco art, and even an area where they show mummy artifacts. Some paintings there you question why it is there, and how much did the University pay for that, and others paintings you wonder how did the University acquired it.

This place has some really great paintings and art! They have some great stuff to look at and I recommend this place for anyone who wants to look at beauty from a historical angle. I would come back here with friends. All the art here seems very unique and creative. I love art. I think it has its own special beauty in a way.

The Lowe Art Museum was another mandatory field trip when I was in school. Although I thought it was dull and boring then, I've grown to love its magnificent collection of artwork. The first art museum in South Florida, it's 13,000object collection is now one of the most important in the southeast, with strengths in Renaissance and Baroque, American, Ancient and Native American and Asian art. The 41 Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculptures are the backbone of its extensive collection which also includes Greco-Roman antiquities, 17th to 19th century European art, 19th century American art, modern and contemporary art, art of Latin America, photography, art of Native America, art of the ancient Americas, art of Asia, art of Africa and art of the Pacific Islands. With such diversity and because the featured collections change often, I can say a visit to The Lowe Art Museum is no longer dull and boring.

The Lowe art museum on the campus of the University of Miami is one of the best kept secrets in Miami..Well, it's not a big secret for anyone who lives in the area and who knows to watch out for special exhibits held throughout the year...These exhibits can be big or small or feature local artists and traveling shoes depending on the occasion. Each year when the big art festival takes place on campus there is always a fascinating exhibit that will go hand and hand..

You just have to keep an eye on the local paper for dates and events.. I've seen some great shows here!

PROS: Art for arts sake and festivals
CONS: none

The permanent collection is great, but it is even better to see the special exhibits. They have 5-6 different ones each year! I love the art, but the best time to be there is the first thursday of every month for the monthly happy hour, "LoweDown at the Lowe"! There is free wine sampling and cocktails, music, hors douvres, and it is a great place to meet people and mingle. I highly recommend becoming a member to avoid the $5 cover and go to all the events for free!!
