Worst experience of my life!
I brought my dog Max to Dr Lampru because he started displaying problems chewing his food, this turned into not eating which caused him to lose weight drastically. We were referred to her because of holistic approach and her openness to try alternative therapies. She did an evaluation and some blood work, and prescribed a series of enzymes and dietary changes, ignoring that the problem was that he could not chew, we told her that we had found a lump in his mouth and thought that might be the problem, but she dismissed it.
We called almost everyday to tell her that he was simply not eating so that the supplements were not going into his system.
We brought Max to her for a follow up, the following week and he had lost even more weight. At that time she diagnosed him as having cancer and that the mass in his mouth had to be removed, but that she was booked until the following week and that she only did surgeries on Thursday, so we would have to wait.
When we returned Max had lost even more weight, at this point my 69lbs dog was at 39lbs!!
She then said that she would not operate because he was too weak and that from her experience and I quote 'I can tell that the cancer has spread and is taking over his body therefore the only thing I can suggest is that we put him to sleep'. She was cold and zero bed side manor. She GAVE UP without ever really trying. She said that he would not live past the weekend. I said no and that I would take him home. She injected him with a narcotic pain killer and sent him home with us. The pain killer on an empty stomach caused internal bleeding in the upper GI tract.
I took Max to another vet and then another we got 2nd n 3rd opinions which concluded that Max did not have cancer and therefore had not spread, he had a abscess that was infected and causing pain therefore he did not want to eat. They prescribed antibiotics and a mild pain killers and when the swelling and infection were gone they removed the lump.
SHE DIAGNOSED MY DOG WITH CANCER WITHOUT EVER TAKING AN X-RAY, BIOPSY, OR SCAN. She gave my dog a life sentence, I am glad I didn't take her advice.
I am outraged and hope you will never have to go through what we went through. Max is my best friend and companion, I know that one day he will not be with us, but it was not his time. I wonder how many people have lost their companion because of her malpractice.
I took my Lab to Dr. Lampru recently. He'd been suffering from allergies and was scratching himself up pretty bad. Dr. Lampru looked at him and said he had "yeast" allergies and prescribed him two different herbal pills to take. She charged me $160 and told me this would take roughly 2 weeks to go away. After 8 days of diligently giving my dog these pills, he had experienced absolutely ZERO relief, and was by now, red raw all over his body, from scratching. I called the doctor's office to let them know, and I spoke to an assistant, describing my situation. If you've ever picked up the phone and heard nothing but "air," this was how the conversation went. It was so one-sided, I actually asked this women if she was still on the line at one point in time. It was literally like talking to a ghost.
Anyway, I told her how much my dog was suffering and asked her to have the doctor call me up. Good thing I wasn't holding my breath, because that was two weeks ago and I haven't heard a thing.
In the meantime, I took my dog out to Largo to some allergy experts there. The first thing they did was test (as opposed to 'guess') for this 'yeast' allergy, and sure enough, my dog didn't have this allergy, at all.
Point being, in addition to the administrative poor service I received, Dr. Lampru diagnosed my dog as having a condition there is a test for, without even running the test! At the time, I didn't know this was something you test for, or else I would have asked her more questions. I thought she was able to diagnose his condition just from looking at it, the way you can often diagnose an infection, simply by looking at it.
Imagine going to your doctor and he tells you, you have measles, or MS, or some other condition, just by looking at you instead of testing you for these conditions? Crazy, isn't it?
Bottom line: save your time and money and the frustration and agony your pet is experiencing and go to someone else. Unless you like bad service and medical incompetency, this isn't the place for you. Going somewhere else, may have saved my dog's life, and it might save your pet's life, as well.
I took my Golden Retriever puppy to Animal Alternatives. The staff is friendly and professional. When my puppy had intestinal problems Dr.Register gave her antibiotics and probiotic supplements to replenish the normal intestinal flora, usually compromised when using antibiotics. A member of the staff called me to see if she was responding to treatment and my puppy got well . I liked that they gave time between shots to avoid overwhelming the dogs immune system. Dr.Register took the time to answer any questions I might have from flea control that's safe for my puppy and children to raw food diet. Two months latter, I believe Animal Alternatives will help me give my puppy a good start. Thank you Animal Alternatives.
These people lost a great deal of my pet's information that I mailed to them including a check. After three phone calls they decided to do a quick over the phone consultation. They called me back and said that my little girl was "TOO" sick to help even with holistic approaches. They GAVE UP and REFUSED to help WITH OUT seeing her! She had a stubborn URI with a 2ndary infection for God's shake. I am beginning to think that some of these alternative vets are phonies.
1. Never confirmed appointments
2. Claim to help all animals despite cases or conditions
3. Did not return phone calls for days
4. One person that did call back was snotty
5. Tried to pass the blame on to another area of the complex
6. Would not so much as even apologize
7. Later said that my pet was "to sick" to help? WTF!!!!
Wish we'd found this place sooner. When traditional medicine is not working for your pet, it's time to look at the natural approach of holistic medicine. Dr Anne Lampru gave us some great advice & pointers in how to make small changes to improve the quality of life for our pets. They do have some new-age hippy type of stuff such as flower therapy and crystals - however the bulk of the treatment is more to do with a lifestyle change for your pet. Specifically diet & medications. Dr Lampru is a big fan of tittering your pets, and thereby reducing the number of vaccinations. Also, she can offer nosodes where available, and these are less detrimental than regular vaccines.
PROS: Wonderful, caring staff. Cheaper than most holistic vets.
CONS: None whatsoever.
