I went to Las Olas Beauty to have my hair cut by a "curly hair specialist" and left there feeling I had just made the biggest mistake. I brought in pictures of styles that I liked AND styles that I didn't NOT like. I did this so that there would be no misunderstandings. Unfortunately, my stylist had ideas of her own and ignored me completely. I walked out with a square afro.

I also broke down and went to the LOBC for a Ouidad cut. I had a less than happy experience.

1) I brought in pictures of hair styles that I thought looked good on me from www.thehairstylist.com. All the styles were for curly hair - so I was realistic.
The web site allows you to upload your own photo - so you get a really good idea of what looks good on you.
The stylist did not tell me that at this salon all Ouidad cuts are blunt cuts. (period) I am not sure if that is true at all Ouidad salons, so I will just say this salon.
That alone would have told me that what I want and what they can provide do not match.

2) I came in with very light blond hair. The pictures I showed the stylist of what I wanted also had that color hair. My hair was colored at the salon - it came out mousy brown.
LOBC has offer to fix the color. I am not sure I want them to touch my hair again. I am thinking about it. How could blonde end up mousy brown???

I do think the "thinning" technique used by Ouidad is much better than the old thinning shears. But be realistic, it is a thinning technique - with the twist (no pun intended) to encourage curl cupping.

The product and the techniques for styling the hair seem completely directed at long blunt cut hair. If you want more style than that, I am afraid you may be disappointed.

Review - mixed and I am disappointed...

I have extremely tight, curly, nappy hair and I had been dying to go to a salon that specialized in curly hair but just couldn't justify spending $100 just for a haircut. I finally broke down and went to Las Olas Beauty after reading about them on another web site. To say that I was extremely pleased with my hair would be an understatement. The stylist and his assistant were amazing. They colored my hair and I have strangers coming up to me telling me they love it and asking where I got it done. I also got a "Ouidad" haircut and they showed me how to properly style and maintain my hair. it has never looked better!

PROS: professional, great colorist and stylist
CONS: expensive!
