I ordered twin lobster tails. They were completely tasteless. Almost like they sat in warm water for hours. The drawn butter tasted like movie theater butter. TERRIBLE!!!!

Unfortunately, the quality of the food at the Salt Rock Grill has gone downhill over the last couple of years. I ate there today (for the last time) and my whole party was very disappointed. We paid $10 for a shrimp appetizer only to find mini-shrimp (and I mean popcorn sized shrimp that were also frozen) swimming in a feta soup. Not what you'd get at any other high end seafood restaurant! I've never even seen that size shrimp being served in a restaurant other than breaded and fried as popcorn shrimp. Next, I had the salmon dish which sounded like a piece of salmon according to the menu description- the dish was like salmon cakes instead of a piece of salmon, breaded and VERY fishy! We had to ask for lemon just to douce it to try and cover up the fishy taste. Again, not what you'd get at any other bay area nicer seafood restaurant! Another person ordered the filet mignon kebabs only to find that most of the "filet" was fatty (which was all thrown away). Very disappointing for an $80 check!

Pros: Nice atmosphere

Cons: Food is not good; the menu discriptions are not accurate

Just came back from eating at the Salt Rock and I wouldn't bother eating there again. The food was fresh, but far from flavorful. We expected more, a lot more from such a nice-looking restaurant with a great water view. I tried the mussels provencal (tasted dirty), the salmon (it was so-so), tuna (good), scallops (boring), and steak (I've had a whole lot better). I grew up on the coast of Maine so I know my seafood, and I have traveled around the country and I've eaten at a lot of restuarants and I have to say that this was some of the most bland seafood I have ever tried. It's too bad.

My wife and I spent an anniversary dinner and discovered the food was just barely edible. My steak was tough with grizzle runing through the meat. I was disappointed with the portion of lobster tail they provided with the meal. My server was very good and continued to try and help me out selecting another piece of steak. I ordered filet mignon and again was disappointed. My wife's meal was very good and she was satisified. The manager came over and took the price of the steak off of my bill, but like I told my wife the meal was ruined and I would not return to the grille again. I told the server the reason we came back, was because the meal was great the first time we ate there. The first time I said was totally wonderful, and I told everybody I knew to try the grille , the food was absolutely great, and the service was excellent too.. It's a shame what a difference a day makes. I rated this meal 3 stars because my wife's meal was good.

Pros: Service outstanding. Seating was very adequate.

Cons: Steak was tough, and small lobster portions. Very disappointing to me. 51 years ann.

Salt Rock Grill is one of the best restaurants in the Tampa Bay area!! I recently dined there with a group of well traveled family and friends, including 2 travel professionals, and we were all extremely pleased and somewhat surprised at the outstanding service, unique and delicious food, and beautiful, romantic setting.

The evening started with probably one of the best bartenders I have ever encountered. Some of us were at the bar waiting for others and our table , the young bartender was engaging and especially knowledgeable regarding the wines. He steered us to exactly what we were looking for from the by the glass list. He recommended the best value, not the most expensive, which is a real switch from most restaurants. Noticing I was looking at the wine list, he had some terrific suggestions. And this group is very knowledgeable about wine. His suggestion for one of the group who usually dosen't drink much wine won her over to a lovely Riesling. I hope the bartender decides to go for his Master Sommelier designation.

The food and the service in the dining room were also oustanding. The steak in a fish house was one of the most tender porterhouse I've had the pleasure of eating and I grew up in the midwest. The fish was fresh and perfectly prepared. Everyone at the table raved about their meals. The wait staff was very attentive and met our every need.

We will all be back and will tell our friends about this special restaurant loaded with romantic ambiance, knowledgeable staff and food I'm ready to try again soon.

Pros: Two thumbs way up. Food, wine, service, ambience. Takes reservations

Cons: None

.

The very inexperienced hostess/servers at 4:45 early bird were one of my worst dining experiences.
The waitstaff were untrained and of limited intelligence. I will never return to this establishment or any that are afflilated with same.
The food was always acceptable; now I'm sure I was "settling". Don't do it. Reward yourselves and go to Guppy's.
Thanks.

Pros: tuna

Cons: rude, uneducated, ignorant and YOUNG staff

Definitely make a reservation b/c this place is PACKED even at 10pm for dinner. Delicious steaks (one of the best we've ever had) and an amazing wine menu. Service was quite slow but they were busy... Bartender was awesome.
The views are of the bay, not the ocean, which was a surprise but still lovely. (On a sidenote we were hardpressed to find fine dining on the gulf side of the beach.)

I was visit my Grandparents and I asked them where I could take them out for some good seafood. The told me about this place called the Salt Rock Grill. I expected a hole in the wall fish place where everything is fried. Well I was pleasantly suprised! The service was great! It was a friday night so it was extremly busy. So we had to sit in the bar, and not the main dinning area, but there happened to be a both available at the bar. I ordered the catch-of the-day which happened to be grouper, tipical for the gulf coast, it was blackend and awesome! I am from Denver and in the middle of the country where fresh seafood is non -exsitant. The next time I visit i will return to the Salt Rock Grill.

Pros: Food, Location, Service

Cons: A little loud for elderly folks to have a conversation

I love this place because the food is superb and it is fine dine with linen table cloths and napkins in a casual atomsphere. I have been here for Easter and they always have a special menu just for that day and my whole family goes and we feel it gives you that hoilday feeling. I have been here also for dinner and love that it is on the water and you can see the water from almost every table. You can also sit outside on their deck which is on the water. The wine cellar has the biggest selection I have ever seen on the beach and you can see it through the floor in the lobby when you first come in, which is very unique. They do have valet parking which I would recommend for everyone to use.

Cons: very small parking lot

The food (selection, portions, flavor), the atmosphere, the wine selection...everything about this place will make for a delicious meal and an enjoyable evening. The staff is supurb. I just moved here and this is now my favorite restaurant.

Come to the area once a year and we make sure we eat at Salt Rock at least once while we are in town. This place has great steaks and seafood. You could spend hours looking over the wine list and they have many wines by the glass. The view of the water is great. This is the best all around restaurant in the area. A great value for what you get. Its not cheap but worth the little extra. If you are looking for a special night out this is the place.

I live 5 minutes from SRG, I have been there about 30 times since it's opening. It's a favorite for special occasions and important dates. Starting with the food: it's generally very consistent with some nice choices. My favorie appy is the Kingston trio, skwered chicken beef and pork served aside a flaming mini hibachi were you sear your own skewers. Nice with jerked sauce on the side. I consider this my 'turf' before the 'surf'. Entree faves are the coconut shrimp, pan seared tuna and when in a land lubber mood, the filet mignon (get it pocketed with maytag bleu cheese!!). The dessert parade is lead by the creme brulee drizzed with a raspeberry reduction.

When busy, the service can be spotty, this is the restaurant's weak point. Food can be slow or rushed, you can wait a long time or have dinners come out while you are still eating salad.

The atmosphere is top notch. waterfront, nice combo of dark woods and limestone and the place has a strong trendy upscale new american feel. The people watching is fabulous, a real place to see and be seen.

Insider tips: dont go on holidays, like Easter or Mother's day. Limited and expensive, if not disappointing holiday menu's. Always make a ressie and if you can go on a week night or outside of peak tourist season, that's a plus. Yes, use the free valet parking!!!

I have been 5 or 6 times and sometimes it's excellent and sometimes it's inedible. All in all I think it's overrated. There are lots better places to eat in Pinellas for that kind of money. However, if King Crab legs are your deal, get them here, the saw them down the middle with a band saw and cook them over the grill, no work to get to the meat.

A group of friends and I go to the Salt Rock Grill EVERY Friday night. It's a perfect place to unwind from the week and begin the weekend. Their espresso martini's are fabulous! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are the tuna shashimi, plank salmon and raw oysters!

My husband and I were out for a romantic wknd and it was our first time visiting SRG. After we were seated, we waited about 20min for service. There were 2 other servers waiting on ALL of the tables next to us except ours. Finally my husband had to get up and ask for a manager after both of the servers kept walking right past us like they had not seen us even though we had made eye contact more than once.Once the manager was made aware of the problem, not only did he not apologize but it took another 5min before anyone came over. The manager just looked confused and unprofessional. It was a horrible experience and even thgh the food was good, we have definitely had better. It is not all that it is built up to be.We will not return and just keep on exploring for rstrnts that do appreciate our business.

Nothing better than dining on the waterfront. It was beautiful and relaxing. The service was average (nothing to compain about). The only portion of the meal that was good was the bread and oil. My steak was cold, and so was my girlfriends chicken. The meal was very flavorless, and not worth the money that was sepnt. I would not recommend this restaurant for meal, but drinks on the deck absolutely!

We winter in Florida and go to the Salt Rock every year for me birthday. You can go for the early bird which is a good value or in the evening where the atmosphere is incomparable, but the prices much higher. Always make reservations well in advance as it is packed every night. But the food is the best there is. The filet is second to none. The place is bustling, but we like that. Happening place, wonderful, trendy atmosphere. Great coffee drinks. Worth the splurge.

We live in one of the seafood capitals - however it doesn't compare with San Francisco. Salt Rocks comes real close to that high end range where quality and price meet the highway - simply put, recommended, expect a high price, you'll get what you pay for - try the "School of Fish" - close to Aliotos in San Francisco.

This is by far the best restaurant on the Beach! The Salt Rock has world class food and service in a GORGEOUS setting. If you are looking for a place to eat, you can't go wrong here. I've never had food prepared incorrectly and always leave with a smile on my face. The setting is top notch and very romantic. A must see if you're a visitor in the area!

My husband and I had our first dining experience at the SRG last night and it completely lived up to our expectations! We didn't have reservations but ended up waiting less time than the hostess estimated - which didn't bother us because we had a chance for a cocktail on the front deck. We ate outside and it seemed much more quiet and intimate than the inside. The steaks were absolutely phenominal, and you really should try the deserts too. We have dined at several Tampa Bay area restaurants in the past year and the Salt Rock Grill is definitely one of our favorites! Bon Appetit!

This is the most MEMORABLE restaurant that my boyfriend and I have ever eaten at. We visited Clearwater on our anniversary 3 years ago (!!) and still relive the memories of our wonderful dinner at the Salt Rock Grill! We are going back again this summer to have another AWESOME dinner and an overall fun time. It is true - the food IS expensive, but if you are that worried about price they have early bird specials and a great appetizer menue! It is worth the experience!

So I was going through all the reviews that people have left about Salt Rock and felt that it wasn't getting the recognition it deserves. So the parking lot is a full(doesn't this tell you something), if it bothers you that much valet. Salt Rock is home to the best Tuna I have ever tasted(ask for it rare, it just melts in your mouth), it does come with a ginger/wasabi sauce(which I love). If you don't think you will like it ask for it on the side.

I will make this short. The food is overpriced. The tuna, prawns, salmon and any other fish is impossible to taste because the chef has covered everything in ginger-wasabi-soy sauce. The service was good natured but slow. The location is nice, but nothing great. There is so much good food in Tampa and I am supprised that the locals think so much of this place.
