Last year my husband and I decided to enroll our two children into a martial art program. We have been to other schools in Lakeland, but none of them matched the excellent program and pricing structure at ATA martial arts. The school was the cleanest school we have been to. The instructors are very knowledgeable and disciplined in what they teach. My son has improved dramatically in his baseball games due to the coordination of the weapons training. I was concerned at first when they started sparring, but again the instructors are very caring and safety is very important to them. The staff has always answered any questions that my husband or I have. Both of my children are in the leadership program which allows me to train in the Krav Maga program!!!! I have learned so much watching my kid??s progress as martial artists, and as leaders in their school. The benefits my family and I have received are priceless!!! We are moving to New Jersey, and we hope we can find a school as good as this one!!! I recommend ATA Martial Arts to anyone and everyone!!!!!

Pros: Very professional staff, very clean

Cons: None

We moved to lakeland, fl from out of state earlier this year. We had already belonged to ATA the long term contracts and prices are the same we used to pay it's an ATA thing not a school thing. At our old school for testing they charged $50 for testing by a certain day then $60 after that day but instead of calling it a late fee they called it a discount if you paid early, because they have to order the belts by a certain day to get them delivered by testing.
I do agree about this school though, they do weapons that we didnt do unless the student was at a certain belt or belonged to the leadership program. I have had to buy a weapon and board I never would have had to buy at our old school. So far I like the people there but if my kids dont start learning and being able to progress Im going to check out the other ATA in Lakeland. At our old school there was 1 day for weapons, 2 days for sparring (1 for tournament sparring and 1 for test sparring) and the other days for forms. Here they jump back and forth, 5 minutes of this, 10 minutes of that, ect ect ect all in one day how do they expect the kids to catch on doing this. It would also be nice to have tournaments in the area.

We had recently moved from South Carolina, and were looking for a school for our son to continue training. Found this place on line, went and checked it out. Put off immediately by the long term contract required to sign up with payment being drafted from our bank. I had never experienced such practices from previous martial art schools. We did it anyway, and were immediately told that we had to buy$ 500.00 worth of equipment required to continue in the school. Also extra $40 for some weird certificate I had never heard of before. Every time my son test it was an additional $50, and a late fee if not paid for 2 weeks in advance. The arrogance of the instructors was something I noticed right off the bat. My son had been taught previously in a school where humility was key, not here. The teachers are in a power struggle with one another, and undermine each other in front of the students. I have nothing against any of these men personally, but as leaders of young people, they have much more to learn first. As business owners, they clearly are in it for the money and the money only. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone.

Pros: nice enough people

Cons: long term contracts with many extra BIG expenses later

The karate instruction was acceptable, but the business practices are poor. Be careful signing a long term contract with automatic payments with this organization. I had gotten local referrals before using this school, but it turned out that the ownership had changed between the previous students and mine. The standards have gone down after the change of ownership.
